Just ask Marquette and Dartmouth there are still people there that wear gear with their old nicknames (Warriors, Indians). You are right the name Fighting Sioux will be around forever its called history....know it, remember it, and cherish it.

That is the catch-22 on the cooling period....eventually it will end and people will have to "try" to accept the new nickname where if everything played out and a new name was chosen after the 2010 deadline we would be on year 5 with a new name and logo, and would we still be talking about this issue?

It actually united people on both sides, if you were on the fence, you aren't anymore. Plus the division of NA themselves should've been an eye opener since "they" claim all NA are against NA nicknames, and that is the furthest from the truth.

I mentioned Sun Dogs only because it has been thrown around by some (personally I don't like it), I will be wearing my Sioux gear forever, but I will also buy other UND gear with the new name and logo because I am a fan of the University of North Dakota FIRST, nickname second.

If..check that, when UND gets a new name are those "supporters" going to cheer for UND or are they going to stay home and cheer on a different team while wearing their Fighting Sioux jersey. If they choose the latter then they aren't real fans.

Now how about them Sundogs. My daughters soccer team is called the Waves, since its not Green Waves i guess they didn't need permission from EGF and Tulane.

I like Stars over "North" Stars too, how about UND Fighting Stars?

Cavalier....ND has Tornadoes, oh and Fargo South....GF residents just spotted a bruin first hand. . I think UND can get by with Jets as a nickname without using Winnipeg's logo (since we won't use a maple leaf) or use the New York Jets logo. As for North Stars...that name belongs to Minnesota not at UND.

Everyone can agree that there is no nickname that will be as good as the Fighting Sioux...period. So what may seem a bad name now may not be so bad 10 years, 20 years, 50 years from now. Just ask Stanford, and Dartmouth who are going on about 40 years without their NA nickname. I want a new nickname (since Fighting Sioux is NOT an option) because I don't like to be known as just North Dakota. Go North Dakota (I will say go UND) just doesn't sound right. We need a nickname for marketing, just being North Dakota with the UND logo isn't really a money maker compared to what a nickname will do for the school especially if you can design a cool logo to go with the name. But first things first....we need a name.

I guess we will find out IF that option makes it to the final round of chosen names, AND voted upon by the public. Oh and don't forget the blessing sent from Indianapolis.

So if it's posted on BV why would you feel the need to post it here besides to get a reaction you all can make fun of.
