  1. Color me excited to see P.J. play in GF again!! I wouldn't be surprised if he and Mario actually get in a fight just for fun...
  2. Dagwoods became Overtime a year ago or so...and now it is closed all together. Don't know when it's re-opening...
  3. Hands down winner here...the intro to warmups should be Welcome to the North by The Music...It is an absolutely perfect intro song for UND Fighting Sioux Hockey.
  4. I don't disagree with you...however, I just don't see who else fits. I don't see Gregoire and Toews with Duncan even more than I have trouble seeing Frattin up there. The only guy that might fit is Watkins, but then you separate Watkins and VV....but maybe Gregoire fits on that line and Frattin moves to third.... Either way, I think we will see Hak juggling lines all season...
  5. My best guess for lines...and I agree, there really isn't a natural fit to go with Duncan this year.... 1- Frattin-Toews-Duncan 2- Kozek-VV-Watkins 3- Gregoire-Trupp-Hextall 4- Martens-Zajac-Malone I definitely see some shifting going on as well...Trupp could be moved to wing and Lamoureux comes in to play center...I definitely see Miller, Davidson, Hex, and Super Mario as the guys fighting for the last couple forward spots...possibly Martens as well if the other guys pass him up. Defensive pairings should be... 1- Finley-Genoway 2- Jones-Marto 3- LaPoint-Blood/Fienhage I think by the end of the year, Blood will be the go-to sixth D-man, with his experience in the USHL last year helping a lot...
  6. Hey, I gotta start by saying that I am excited about this game and I love the idea of playing big time FCS teams. TT is a really good team this year and will be again next year when we play them, so obviously everybody knows what to expect going into this game. The key is to play the game with honor and respect and to put up an honest effort. As far as the UND vs. NDSU transitions and who is doing/did it better...I don't really give a rip. NDSU took a cautious approach into their transition and built a program that enjoyed success early and will, in all likelihood, continue to be very successful. It seems UND has decided to take a great leap and try to schedule more high profile opponents...and we'll have to see how that works out. I do recall, however, hearing Bobby Bowden discuss how he turned FSU into a big time program. He talked about how he went around scheduling games against the best teams possible that would play against them. He didn't care that they were getting beaten early and often, but he did care about getting exposure for an emerging football program in the already crowded football scene in Florida. Now I'm not suggesting that UND will be the next FSU...but it just goes to show that this methodology has worked for schools in the past...and it should be exciting. I hope that UND uses all of the connections it has to put a lot of big time programs on our schedule over the next 10 years...

    David Carle

Well...looks like David Carle has a lot to be grateful for...turns out Mickey Renaud died of the same condition that David has. TSN has just put out this story showing that the autopsy reports show that Renaud had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy....just the same as Mr. Carle. Kind of scary to think about....maybe more young athletes should be getting tested for this.
  8. Yeah, those Delaware helmets DEFINITELY remind me of Princeton....since they used it first.
  9. Finley will be the Captian, with 'A's on Duncan and Watkins, maybe Jones
  10. Check this out....link....maybe it has something to do with our logo after all! I'm only kidding, btw....
  11. They need to update the banners of some of the NHL teams hanging above the bar. Also, if they are going to display the #23 banner as a retired number for Ralph, why not hang a #12 banner for Terry Casey? Other musings....the band needs to play the beer song less than twice a game, it was so much better when it was played once a game at the old ralph...it's kind of lost some of it's meaning now that they play it after every goal.....Put the students at the Zamboni end. I don't care who gets upset because they lose their favorite seat, it's where the students belong and those STH can get the seats vacated by the students (which Mr. Buning claimed were the best seats in the arena....pshhh).....Turkey bowling every night baby!!!!.....no more prostituting children as chicken dancers....better warmup music....better music, period. And here's my best idea, how about one of the sections in the student section should be allowed to have alcohol. I think it's ridiculous that being over 21, when I go to a game I can't have a beer in my seat. I understand that the student section should be no-alcohol for the most part....but perhaps in say, section 307 and 306A, they could allow alcohol. Remember, it's not only students who sit up there but the general public that buy the leftover tickets. Just imagine yourself, a 30 or 40-something alumni of UND and you buy a general admission ticket to a game, you buy yourself a beer and a hot-dog and go to your seat only to find that you are not allowed to have a beer in your seat. It's ridiculous. We need a portion of the General Admission seating to allow alcohol.
  12. The Buffalo Wild Wings in downtown is a pretty cool place...
  13. Yeah, that play was ridiculous, Bergen should have called that, he was the only official who saw it. Trupp just finished his check on the guy and got a stick to the chops for it. IMO, the defense was awful last night until we got down by 3...and that's including Genoway without a doubt. Our defense, mainly Chay, Chorney, and Bina, tend to activate too often in the wrong situations. This might not be that bad of a thing except that none of the forwards come back to cover for him, which led to the many 2-on-1's that Denver had last night. And it was also on those odd-man rushes that nobody was picking up the trailer. It was a great game last night, but it really seemed like they missed Hakstol on the bench to keep things in order.
  14. Well, tonight's Roseau/GFC game was the first HS game i've gone to this year, and I was fairly impressed with Central, not so much Roseau despite the score. Roseau has one line, albeit a dominant one. Their Powerplay relies on interference that should get called. And if it wasn't for Spivey's lame call, the game could have ended much differently. Ness was OK, reminded me of Marto, only not quite as good. The thing that made me come here to post, was that I stayed long enough to see Red River take the ice for warmups...and I must say, I thought they had the ugliest uniforms ever before, but when I saw the stuff they were wearing tonight, i just sat there in awe. Those have got to be the ugliest things I have ever seen in my entire life in any sport...including the Vikings all purple debacle on monday night. The jersey itself is just plain contrived and boring, not to mention ugly and ill-concieved. And then to pair it with black helmets and all black pants and socks is just down-right horrific. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, Bloomington Jefferson came out in their beautiful powder blues. When RR's nastiness was compared to the classic nature of Bloomington Jefferson, it just made them look that much worse...Nice job Red River, you have topped yourself once again...going from the ugliest uniform in the state to ugliest uniform in the history of the world...wow.
  15. I thought tonight's game was outstanding...it had a little bit of everything. Nice goals, good calls, bad calls, rough stuff, huge saves, big hits, and a great crowd...definitely a game i will remember for a while. As far as the students...when are they going to learn that you can't give the students things...at least it wasn't as bad as the glowstick incident. The pop bottle thing...as dumb and stupid as it was, that was a heck of a result...managing to hit Wheeler (the luckiest hockey player i've ever seen) and then spin halfway across the ice, it was like artwork. Although it did ruin the ice, and I believe it was the reason Vandy fell while skatin backwards near the end of the game. As far as the repetitive vulgar chant...I find that to be no more annoying than the new tradition of playing the beer song after every goal. Give it a rest...'oh no, the students are swearing, what will i do? what will i tell my kids?' It's gonna happen, there's nothing that can be done to stop it, so just roll with it. I must say, to elaborate on my Wheeler stance...I have never seen a player with as much talent as him just wasting away and trying to get lucky. He didn't seem to ever do anything to give himself a quality shot or to create a quality scoring opportunity. Every time he had the puck down low it seemed like he would throw it to the middle hoping to bounce it off of somebody and in. His goal was lucky too...He just seems like a waste of talent if you ask me...
  16. I think the talk the NHL has been putting out has been fairly genuine. It could be that it is simply a ploy to get the Russian Federation to sign the IIHF transfer agreement, but also I think Bettman and the NHL are seriously considering the pros and cons of halting their season for three weeks right in the middle of the season. There are a lot of positives that come from NHLers in the Olympics, but I think overall, they would not be opposed completely from pulling back out of it. They still have the world cup to play for. At this point, in order of importance, the international hockey tourneys are 1. World Juniors 2. World Cup of Hockey 3. Olympics If the NHL pulls out of the olympics, it could have the potential to jump back up to the number 1 spot.
  17. -Off topic question- Has anyone considered what impact the 2014 Winter Olympics will have on college hockey players if the NHL does not lend out it's players for the event. For instance, say Danny Mattson comes in for the '10 season as a freshman, plays a couple years and then has a chance to sign a big NHL deal, or he can stay in school a couple years and play in the Olympics before going to the NHL...Anyone else think that this could potentially be a huge coup for college hockey and help to alleviate the epidemic of early departures? Obviously it wouldn't eliminate it all together, but could help keep a few guys around...
  18. Although I can only believe that this Rosendahl thing is a joke, in all seriousness...there are some pretty decent goaltenders at UND...If Hak & Co. don't already have a tender in mind from a junior league somewhere, I would think they'd be scouting some of the DI Intramural games or asking around...
  19. What about a guy like Aaron Rock to come in at the semester break? He's an '87, has pretty decent stats (looks like he was injured last year? anyone?) and is uncommitted to a school...any chance of bringing in a guy like this? If not Rock, then someone in a similar situation...last year of juniors, not committed....seems like this guy fits the bill pretty nicely.
  20. Yeah, obviously it would be a total detriment to the University, but think about it this way...If we as a University have decided to honor the Sioux warriors for being courageous and standing up to oppression and overcoming adversity, isn't it our duty to stand up to the oppression we are now facing from the NCAA? Shouldn't we be obligated to follow the same set of morals and strength the Sioux warriors that we are honoring followed? If nobody is willing to take a stand, nothing will ever be done to stop the oppression of the NCAA. Who knows, maybe we garner some form of support from outside the University...even if we are eventually forced to change, standing up to the NCAA in a way other than just a lawsuit would make a big statement. Just thinking out loud(or in text i guess) here...
  21. Quick question...has anyone considered simply keeping the name, regardless of whether or not we get approval from the tribes? I clearly understand the monetary consequences like not being able to host playoff events, but other than hockey we wont be able to for a long time anyways. IMO it could be an option to take an 'up yours' approach to this and simply keep the name out of spite. (I realize that this would never happen but would be interesting to see what kind of support it could generate.)
  22. Hey, as big of a joke as this was tonight, lets not all forget that we have had some serious ice quality issues ourselves at the Ralph.
  23. Would that bologna happen to have a first name?
  24. I don't understand why anyone would complain about this. The big thing here is that they have engineered a shoe specifically for Native Americans and the way their feet are traditionally shaped. The fact that they are selling them at wholesale doesn't really matter. Nike could give the Native communities a million pairs of free shoes, but it wouldn't really help as much as this. Having a shoe that doesn't match your feet is utterly useless in any athletic endeavors. This is the first shoe ever that has been crafted to fit the classical Native American foot. And trust me, they aren't doing it as a completely philanthropic act. It is marketing, no matter how you look at it. They will be building a brand loyalty among the Natives that buy these shoes, and I don't need to tell you that Nike sells more than just shoes.
