That's the UND attitude. Can't beat the best? Hope the best gets worse and then beat them.
-
I think we all know expectations are anything but low in Fargo for the football team. He was obviously being modest for the media. I was there the first day Coach Bohl ever stepped into an NDSU football practice, trust me when I tell you his expectations for the NDSU program have been as high as they can get from DAY 1.

Geaux Sioux is right. Attendance will continue to climb, but UND has some disadvantages. No need to turn another thread into a circus, but legitimate comparisons between NDSU and UND are fair. 1. Conference mates-closest conference game is Montana State, UND will never get a large contingency from the away team. NDSU has SDSU, USD and UNI that aren't traditionally teams that travel well, but if the game ends up being meaningful are close enough to at least fill thier team's tickets. 2. Stadium size-What is the capacity of the Alerus? 13k I think? Compared to 19k. 3. Hockey first school-sometimes downplayed, but once hockey season rolls around UND fans tend to choose the hockey games if they have a limited budget for their entertainment. For these reasons and others, NDSU will likely always have a better attendance on game day, but with winning comes people.
-
All good points, last year was very similar in the playoffs, there were at least 5 teams that had legitimate shots at winning the championship. People weren't sold on SHSU and NDSU was an unknown commodity. Most people last year were predicting a GSU vs. Montana finale. Playoffs will be very exciting this year.
-
This is why FCS football is great, no need to wonder once the playoffs come.
-
Likely, I've always thought it made more sense to look at a combo of average attendance and attendance as a percentage of capacity to see how a team is doing. Eventually UND will hit the 12 or 13k attendance which doesn't look all that great but if you are at 100% capacity it is great.

I wasn't there so I can't say, but I have been to game where they are standing 2 deep along the entire first few rows. NDSU is world renowned for it's outreach program to get little people enrolled, surprised you didn't know that. Side bar: Isn't it more offensive to be called a "little person" than a midget or dwarf? Seems odd that that segment of our population has decided that is the manner in which they would like to be referred.
-
Read what he said, people pack in the rows and stand the whole game so the seats are irrelevant. So if there are say 50 seats in a row there may be more like 70-75 kids standing in that row. Multiply that by 5-10 rows and it adds up.

Mike Breske. NDSU fans were actually really excited about him considering his pedigree, but for whatever reason Coach Bohl decided he wasn't right for NDSU moving forward. http://www.gobison.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=2400&ATCLID=204847030

Montana St Game........ Thats Montana St not NDSU
Bison06 replied to geaux_sioux's topic in Football
I agree completely, Marcus Williams gets a lot of hype and well deserved, but I think Heagle is/was the best player on the defense that is full of stars. Point being, 5 years ago the loss of NDSU's best player at such a key position in NDSU's defense would have translated to a huge dropoff. I don't feel like I even notice that he isn't out there, which is amazing. -

Dude calm the hell down, life isn't that serious. I honestly had no idea about any of the injuries other than Hanson. Thanks for the breakdown geauxsioux. As UND gets further along with this DI thing, the injuries at key positions won't hurt as much because the depth will be there. Last year was the first year that NDSU had the kind of depth to rebound from injuries like UND is dealing with. 5 years ago the Colten Heagle and Zach Vraa injuries would have been devastating for NDSU, now they have the depth to absorb some injuries. -

All of these players are out for the season? -
I agree, playoffs are the only solution. Ok enough of this agreement BS in this argument thread. UND's schedule is soft, whew now I feel better.
-
Agreed, anyone who thinks that is a good solution and actually represents a playoff is out of touch. What bothers me the most about the BCS championship is it literally takes away the best part of sports. To play a game means anything can happen and that is why I watch. Michigan is supposed to beat App St. by 50, Oklahoma is supposed to beat Boise St. by 30, well that's why they play the game right? What a joke not having a true playoff is, I'll never understand it. Even the money argument is ridiculous to me, they would make more money if they had a playoff.
-
This is why I love FCS football vs. BCS. All this BS talk back and forth about we have a stronger schedule or any other thing that gets said doesn't matter, because we will all found out who is for real in just over a month when the playoffs get rolling.
-
If this is what happens in the "real world" its funny a judge didn't see the cases that way.
-
Heagle has been a menace since the day he showed up on campus, this is only further proof that Coach Bohl doesn't have NDSU players wearing the mandatory ankle bracelets so he can monitor them 24/7. I refuse to give money to 18-22 year old kids to go to school to enjoy themselves. They need to be either eating, sleeping, studying or playing football. Kick him off the team.
-
Really dude? I love the internet tough guys. I bet calling me a bitch over the internet makes you feel big and tough.
-
Great analysis, I disagree about Brock though. I believe it has been the play calling that hasn't allowed him to have the stats of some other QB's. He has the ability to light a defense up, NDSU just hasn't needed him to. I am not sure how you see NDSU only scoring 21 points when they are averaging much more than that and SDSU defense is also giving up much more than that.
-
Piss off man, the guy asked me to provide an analysis, so I obliged.
-
I look to a few key stats when looking at a matchup between NDSU and SDSU(aztecs) The first one is SDSU is giving up 28.1 points per game this season, NDSU is averaging 41.3 ppg. I don't think we'd need to score that many to win, but I don't see them being able to slow down our offense much. SDSU passing defense is the culprit and has shown all year that they cannot stop anyone through the air. In fact teams are averaing over 270 yards per game through the air on them. On paper SDSU seems to be good against the run, but given their woes in stopping the pass my guess is this is the Vikings effects taking place.(Vikings led the league many years in a row against the run, but nobody ran on them because you could pass for however many yards you wanted so why waste time running the ball.) NDSU is extremely balanced on offense and I see SDSU offering little resistance to NDSU's ball control, methodical offense that rarely makes mistakes. The second stat I look to in this matchup is 3rd down conversion rates. NDSU's defense is extremly good at getting off the field on third down. SDSU's offense is under 50% in this category. In contrast NDSU's offense is darn good at converting 3rd down opportunities, while SDSU offense is poor in getting off the field on third down. I could go into a few more points about the stats, but ultimately I believe it comes down to matchups. I don't believe their offensive line has the guys to handle NDSU's defensive line and this is where I believe NDSU would impose their will and take over the game. Feel free to offer your own analysis, but this is how I see it. Well if you want to play that game nobody knows how tough their schedule was until the season plays out. Maybe EWU loses out and Cal-Poly loses out and now those losses don't look so good. Maybe YSU wins out and makes a run in the playoffs, maybe Indiana State also wins out and goes on to make a lot of noise in the playoffs and those games become very difficult games on NDSU's schedule.
-
Bisonboone answered exactly what I was going to say, so no need to repeat. There are no facts and stats to prove with 100% certainty that NDSU would beat SDSU, that's why it's called an opinion. It is an informed opinion, but an opinion nonetheless.
-
Pretty ironic that in once sentence you make a condescending remark about something going over my head and then in the next claim that NDSU fans have a superiority complex. I am not sure if you are lumping all NDSU fans in this or not, but if you read the entire thread(don't take the time) you would know that all of my posts were in line with what UND posters were saying. That UND would most likely have the exact same record they do now 4-3 against NDSU's schedule. I then asked how if UND fans agree that they would likely have the same record against NDSU's schedule where is the logic in saying NDSU has a weak schedule. None of these comments could be misconstrued as me saying how amazing NDSU is and claiming nobody on earth could beat them. You read what you want to read everytime a Bison poster posts. It would do you well to read each post seperately and not assume that because I have Bison in my name I can't even the slightest thread of objectivity.
-
I have never read a more closed minded post in my life. You can be damn sure if I came here and said NDSU would have beat Alabama last year I would get 100 people jumping down my throat telling me why I am wrong. But according to you nobody has the right to control what I want to think right. Hilarious. Classic response, go back to Bisonville. haha.
