Because it knew about FBS before it knew about the Summit before it knew about the BigSky before it knew anyone was going D1. Why did NDSU take a dozen years to finish the BSA upgrade? Because that facility would have been a waste in the Summit... But in a new conference it would be top notch!!

Most arenas like to have things planned out more than a year in advance so waiting until after the 2018 Frozen Faceoff is not an option for the NCHC, the Target Center or the X.

Because not every UND fan can afford to go to every post-season event. Many will choose Sioux Falls and/or a Frozen Four at the X over the Frozen Faceoff.

The NCHC is working to upgrade their package with Neulion. It will include native apps for both Apple and Android mobile devices. Streaming to your TV will also be a big improvement for mobile devices. Think of something similar to the BTN2Go app.

Barring any last minute changes, the 2018 Frozen Faceoff will be held at the completely renovated Target Center. The conference is prepared for dwindling attendance, mainly due to Sioux Falls the weekend after and the Frozen Four a couple weeks after that. However, this summer will be an announcement regarding the future of the Frozen Faceoff. The NCHC is vigorously pursuing the X and working to make it happen for 2019 and beyond.
