2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
brianvf replied to AlphaMikeFoxtrot's topic in Men's Hockey
The good news is that UND won't play another "away" game all season. All that is left is Home and Neutral. Plus, the big advantage with playing at home...every remaining game that UND will play (assuming they stay the same in PWR) they'll have last line change unless they meet BC or BU in the Frozen Four. -
No his issue was that he had 40 commits locked in for like 10 spots each year.

I'm guessing Blake gets both Player and Forward of the Year. I wouldn't be surprised if Mayotte gets CoTY, but thinking it'll go to Berry with the roster turnover then vaulted to 1st. Going with Buium for RoTY. Mbereko for GoTY. ZBuium for ODoTY. Can't believe that Zmolek got the shaft for the DDoTY award and isn't a finalist. Laba or Berg for DFoTY. -

I would say it’s less of “we lost him” to more of a circumstance where he wasn’t really producing at the junior level and the writing was on the wall for how much playing time he would have ever gotten at UND. Not much attention would be paid to this if his last name wasn’t Panzer. I wish him all the best at BSU!

Miami @ UND - Hawks vs Hawks to go to the Frozen Faceoff
brianvf replied to brianvf's topic in Men's Hockey
Expected goals It's essentially the statistical odds of a particular shot going in the net depending on where the shot is taken on the ice. Schloss really started pushing the xG stats last year, when UND was really struggling but the xG stats were showing that the team should have been doing much better. -

It's certainly looking to be lining up that way, isn't it? I feel like the boys would welcome another shot at either of those teams. But their playing styles have certainly caused us fits all season...I would hope that by then the coaching staff would have been practicing ways to counter that style. -

Winner goes to Frozen Faceoff. Hopefully we see a UND team with a little more than they showed against UNO. UND is 4-0 against Miami this season. Although Miami had a few injuries last time they played UND. The Friday night game was the one where Blake scored in OT then just skated off the ice in frustration that it even went to OT. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-preparing-to-face-a-different-looking-miami-team

Man, what a disappointing end for Merrimack...I remember in the pre-season, there were many that were saying they were a top-10 / top-20 team.
-
Both him and Hellsten seem to be fitting in well for UNH.
-
Yes, for sure. Someone to push Hobie and get some starts if needed. Hobie has shown with his starts this year that he can play NCAA, so I'm not too worried either way if Persson stays or goes.

Three HEA teams season coming to an end tonight in the HEA tourney. VT-CT UNH-Lowell NE-Merrimack All 6 teams below the bubble so all need to win to keep playing.
-
+1 Agreed on the portal as well. I think if they find 1-2 options that would be a good fit that they could pick them up and then have a couple of the recruits spend another year in juniors. Goalie to replace Persson if he leaves. Not many holes to fill, especially not when compared to last year.

Must be some sort of Miami supporter. Sounds like Miami put in a decent amount of work to make him eligible but then he just de-committed instead. I'm guessing he just looked that Boser was from ND and assumed that it was UND that was putting the pressure on him. Oops on his part.

Those darn analytics. Avert your eyes, @Oxbow6 https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/analytics-show-how-jackson-blake-is-impacting-und-in-several-ways -
It's that time of the year again as teams seasons come to an end. A couple pro signings from Notre Dame and a few portal entrants already.
-
Right now we're looking to lose four forwards (Gaber, Johannes, Ness, and Albrecht), three dmen (Pyke, Britt, and Pehrson), and maybe one goalie (Persson could leave, but still has one year eligibility left) barring any early departures or portal losses. From current recruits, we'd be looking at bringing in: Swanson, Boisvert, Croal and either Klee/Littler or a portal for forwards Jubenvill, Strathmann, and Emery for dmen If Persson leaves, I'm guessing we'd go portal to find a goalie to challenge Hobie for starts until Heil is ready to arrive on campus

Congrats to Jake on making the NCHC All-Rookie Team: -
I bet we see at least one conference tourney upset which puts the magic PWR number to 13. With CC/UNO/WMU at 11/12/13, that makes things really tight especially if Prov (14) or UMass (15) move up (they actually play each other next in the HEA quarters). It may very well be win or go home for most of those teams...would be interesting to look at options if any of those NCHC teams win or lose in 3 games to see if that still keeps them above the cut line.

Welcome to the NIL world, UND: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/college/an-nil-collective-to-benefit-und-athletes-will-soon-be-announced?fbclid=IwAR0YB1LoX1USLC59Lrsf5R9mGRkV4lqXsXu1bs4AY6MqxPSvTOjYvOXMTkg -
The Sioux Facebook group members are infatuated with Gaber's mom.
-
Yep, then everyone will be ready to hang banner #9 again, like after the sweeps of DU and WMU.
-
All will be well after finishing Miami off in two games. If it goes to three...watch out here on ss.com.

I certainly didn’t say that. The people that said that are the same people calling for Berry's head after two poor games at Baxter.
