UND is a Ferrari that many fans are content with driving like a Camry. We're not a freakin' Camry though! We're THE University of North Dakota. The standards are higher! An off year or two here and there isn't the issue. It's the complete lack of tournament success in 8 years going on 9. UNACCEPTABLE. Hak may not have won a title, but we were the GOLD standard of college hockey during his tenure. Every year came with new hope and the entire world of hockey knew we were always a threat. Nobody is scared of us under Berry. There were rough starts some years and all of them ultimately ended in tears, but they ended in tears because everyone was always so excited and passionate about that year being THE year. It was SO much more fun. You knew the team would come together in the back half of the year and be among the hardest outs come tournament time. What's happened under Berry is a decline of UND hockey as a product and season ending losses come with less and less emotion. UND hockey is no longer talked about the same way on a national level the way it was under Hakstol. Berry has more resources at his fingertips than ever and nothing visually seems to actually change as a product on the ice...it only gets worse. Time to stop monkeying around and grabbing half our roster out of the transfer portal...it's a lazy style of recruiting when used to the extent Berry has. Time to take our kelly green Ferrari, put it in sport mode, and hit the gas....

This is patently false and out of touch with reality. We've won one NCAA tournament game against lowly AIC (who's about to be a Div II team) in the 8 NCAA tournaments held since then while our rivals rack up titles. THAT'S why people are coming after Berry. Seasons like how this one are going are just more fuel to the fire.

Brad Berry won 2020. I think he avoided a possible embarrassing defeat in the tournament. UND wasn't playing particularly great down the stretch in 2020 going 3-2-1 against WMU, St Cloud, and Omaha....Western being the only one of those three being above .500, but still only good enough to finish 4th in the NCHC. I think the offense punched above their weight a lot of the year, and in the tournament when things get more physical and the ice seems to shrink a bit, I don't think there was a guarantee they'd have the horses to make a deep run. Their defense was great and would have likely kept them in games, but I don't think there was a lot of guaranteed success ahead for UND. Remember, the following year being the #2 overall seed we only managed to beat AIC (Div II) before losing in the following round and also failing to make the Frozen Four.

So we won zero tournament games in 2020 is what you're saying...meaning it's been eight seasons?

This team has no identity. Without an identity, you're going to play without purpose, and that's what UND games look like. Are we a race horse team beating you with speed and skating up and down the ice? No. Are we grind it out physical teams making the opponent earn every inch of the ice? Not even close. Are we defensive-minded, controlling neutral zone and playing cautious but optimistic? Nope. Are we a team loaded with snipers using puck movement to give our guys clean looks. Haven't seen it. What are we?? On a good night, we play with a bit of energy and have enough skill to overcome. On a bad night, we look totally lost and players have no purpose in their movements other than to react to whatever the situation gives, instead of controlling the game and playing with intent. What does Berry actually coach?

Why any first round NHL talent would want to go to UND right now is baffling to me. The fact we have two is absolutely crazy.

At least we have Tyson-Paul to look forward to tonight. David Carle is like prime Tyson and Berry is like Michael Spinks.

But our coach is nicer and is more appealing to old grandmas on Facebook.
