  1. If my memory is correct Jeff was a McDonalds All-American. Every DI coach in the country knew who he was.
  2. No school in Fargo today. Hence, no game in Grafton.
  3. Actually they had the same number of goals at the end of regulation. Sounds like a good game for Shanley, I just spoke to a Shanley parent and apparntly its the first victory ever agains centra. I don't know if that's true but I'm sure it's been a long time.
  4. Cratter- I think a better way to look at it is not population, but size of the cities respective youth hockey programs. Using your theory the city of Minneapolis should be sending the most kids to these Elite camps. I don't think that is true. Maybe someone can share with us the size of the youth hockey programs in Fargo and Grand Forks. Back when I was in high school fargo and grand forks systems were close in size, with GF being larger some years. As a Fargo South grad (93) I'd like what I see talent wise. Until recently FS would go up to Purpur and get destroyed. Now they go up there with a chance to win. The gap is closing, but GF schools have the edge that they've been there and done that, and come into the state tourny loose and play their best hockey of the year. South High plays great hockey in ND, but go into brain lock when they play mediocre MN teams and when they play in the state tournament. Why? Who knows, but the program is a lot better off than when I was playing.
  5. While were adding prospects, I'd like to add Eric Gault Defenceman from Fargo South. Gault let the Elite 1 League d-men in scoring and IMO is the #1 prospect comming out of ND HS Hockey this year. Just like Marto, he will need a year of juniors to adjust to higher talent. From listening to others he opened some eyes this fall with his Elite League performance.
  6. Dagies- Really wouldn't be an issue as long as the center knows his responsibilities in the defensive zone. Typically a center is a center and should be decent on faceoffs. Perhaps Kiap was going against one of the best face off men in the country. You never know who you are going up against initially. A 4th liner might be a teams best face off man.
  7. I don't see Lee or Toews as flight risks after this year. Both Lee or Toews need to develop more physically. The NHL will let UND's strength coach do his magic rather than pay these boys big bucks when there this young. That's a great thing for NHL teams who draft NCAA players, they can develop for free. Typically, you hear rumbling of a player leaving when they absolulty dominate at this level or cannot develop further due to NCAA rules. That's why you see a lot of big defensive defensemen who are not highly touted leave early. They can work on the NHL style in the AHL and not live in the penalty box. I don't Lee dominating during his freshman year. Although he will be very solid, and possibly an all rookie team selection.
  8. Beersong- Not pissing and moaning about the prediction, but stating the fact that INCH cant count, and the only mention of UND was in regards to the name issue.
  9. Typical INCH garbage reporting. Only 2 UND players drafted in the first round?? And three in the WCHA. I couldn't find an e-mail link to report the error, so maybe some one else can. The only mention of UND is of course the NCAA nickname debate. Why do I expect any more?
  10. Maybe they didn't want to risk having a player featured on the season tickets that wasn't even playing with the team. i.e. Bochinski last year. I don't remember last years tickets having the name of the ticket holder printed on them, or did I not see it?
  11. What is with the Bison Love fest? As a Fargo native who's a big supporter of Sioux hockey and grew up being a Bison football fan it is great to see the class of this board. Openly cheering for NDSU?? I'm very impressed. Not nearly as impressing as the Sioux and Bison destroying their opposition on the gridiron.

    Hockey?

Only 6 WCHA teams in the top 10. East Coast Bias!!!
  13. Over lunch today I saw a commerical on ESPN pimping the ESPN and ESPN 2 HD channels. They are flashing through NFL and NBA clips and what's that hockey? The green is right and I noticed Nationwide so I rewind the DVR and YES a quick clip of the opening faceoff with Denver. About 10 seconds later right at the end they show a clip of Fabian pumping his fists after scoring!! Cool to see the Sioux on an ESPN commercial!! P.S. Thankfully no dasher-cam shots
  14. Just some background before I delve into my response. I'm a Sioux hockey season ticket holder who graduated from UMD. This may be hard for UND and NDSU grads to grasp, but I chear for both programs in all sports. Hey I'm form North Dakota. Now back to the topic. I agree that the fully funded DII schools are close and would compete at the DIAA level. I also think that a fully funded DIAA school can compete with most DIA foootball teams. The top 50 in DIA are probably untouchable, but a top DIAA team can compete with all the other DIA teams. Look at last weeks Montana St. vs. Oklahoma St. game. Very close and Montana St. is not a top ten DIAA team. Also, your quote that NDSU football will be competitive at the IAA level in the next 5 to 8 years. Give me a break. It would be hard for a UND fan to show that NDSU is not competitive right now. They finished last year ranked in the top 25 and are currently ranked 20. Now polls don't mean much but its all we have to compare teams nationally. Will NDSU win multiple national titles in DIAA? I don't know. Will they be making the payoffs consistently? I think they will. All other sports, that's a different story. Womens BB will be competitive, as will wrestling, and mens and womens track. The rest, I don't think so. I'd be happy to continue this debate but the hockey board is not the right place for it.
  15. Thanks, I couldn't remember if he was coaching or just hired. Just remember a blip in The Forum.
  16. Just speculation, but I wouldn't be suprised if you see former UMD sniper and Bismarck High Allum Mike Peluso looked at for the job in Bismarck. I think he was doing some coaching for the Bobcats this winter. If my memory is correct I think Mike was on the teaching track when he was at UMD.
  17. Here are some facts on Fargo housing. I'll use my self as an example. New 4 bedroom, 3 bath two story in Martens Way (Fargo) 2200 sq ft finished, basement roughed in for recroom, bedroom and bath. Purchase price, $203,000 which included $22,000 for the lot. Lots are approx 90 x 140 (larger than Osgood and Eagle Run). Specials are approx. $22,000 which are not included in the price of the lot. My 2004 full value was $230,600 with taxes being $6695. 2005 will be $242,000 Sicatoka, 75K for a lot in Eagle Run??? What is it 3 lost put together. Right now the land cost in our development is around $30K. Unless your on a river, golf course or have at leaste a couple acres I don't know where you'll find a 75k lot in Fargo. In general property taxes in ND are way out of wack. You can probably blame that on our relative small state income tax. The schools and cities just don't get the money from the state anymore. If anyone wants more details on costs in fargo/west fargo let me know, we share office space with a homebuilder/devolper I should be able to get you info. If you want info on fargo's property taxes and assesed values it's all public info http://www.cityoffargo.com/parcels/index.asp just enter an address.
  18. Not in Grand Forks so maybe I'm missing something, but why the celabratory spin? If the BRAC recommendations go as is GF will loose 2200+ personal. How many numbers will the schools loose due to this? Must be at least a 1000. That is a huge drop in state and fed funding for the school district. IMHO this just sucks. I remember driving from Fargo to Rolla to visit my grandparents and waiting until we drove by the base with hopes of seeing a B-52 taking off. Droans
  19. Actually all Schoen has done is come up with some conceptual drawings. If the plan goes through the city of Fargo has complete design authority for the block. IMO the block will look a lot different than it does in CityScapes drawings. Also the only historic building that I see worth saving is the original Fargo National Bank building, which is on the corner of NP and Broadway. Sounds like they aren't opposed to incorpating it in the design. I'm voting yes, but I don't expect to see it pass.
  20. No matter the seeding if the Gophers make the semifinals then they play in the late game. Last year the gophs were the 3 seed and played UMD in the late game. I think that most tickets for the final 5 are presold so $$ shouldn't be driving this anymore. I don't think crying about it every year is going to change anything. Let's worry about beating wisconsin on thursday.
  21. I can answer the ice cream mystery. The DECC has a ice cream stand where you can get your choice of 4 or 5 different had dipped ice cream cones. You need to stand in line most of intermission to get one. Thier mint chocolate chip is the best. As a soph. at UMD my dream girl (one of the hockey player gf's) would do things to that cone that I can't mention on a family site!!! Diggler, kick a$$ ice cream??? Where you getting it? All I can find are the ice cream treats.
  22. Just think of the posse's all of our number 1 picks would have if this was similar to the NBA . But for you students, think of all the groupies GO SIOUX!!
  23. Lots of fans were complaining that Thelen should have been on Team USA in place of Lee. It looks like there were some other things that Sandelin took into consideration. Lee certianly didn't make a big impact, but I'm sure he wasn't a "cancer" in the locker room either.
  24. FYI Moorhead didn't loose to Jefferson they lost to unranked Hill Murray which was the last game of the regular season. I don't know what the score of the Jefferson game was, but it was a home game and Moorhead hasn't lost a home game in over 50 games GO SPUDS!!!
