  1. Can anyone tell me what time the late game ended up starting last night? Thanks
  2. I know I'll get ripped by the GFC posters on this board but comparing Marto to an Div. 1 All-American, NHL and world cup player is a big strech. I've only seen Central play twice, both against South and I can honestly say that I don't know Marto's number. If he is as good as everyone says he should stand out more througout a game. The only Central player that stood out to my was the small, quick forward (23?). Perhaps Marto realizes that he has to play a more stay at home roll against good South offence, and that is why he hasn't stood out in the couple of games I saw. BTW, great win by central!! Just shows how close the teams from the east are this year. What a great weekend for ND hockey. State Semifinals Friday. Sioux -v- BADgers in the afternoon state championship game at night on Saturday. Championship of Flyer Squirt Tournament sunday afternoon.
  3. Dont shoot the messanger. Just relaying what Wilson has said in the past. Diechert has loads of talent, but not the mental capacity to play varsity on a consistant basis. Not even saying that he will become a consistent goalie just that he has the talent to do so. Mclean is just solid, not a lot of flash, but always in the right position to stop the puck. To FSwadestorey, GO WHITE!! (your comments earlier make me quess you coach flyer white) I played in the first 3 flyer tournaments and have been waiting to see the Flyers win for a long time now. Who scares you this weekend. When do you play??
  4. South's record in ND without McClean 0-2 South's record in ND with McClean 15-0-1 McClean's GAA against ND competition 1.31 McClean's Save % against ND competition .923 You can give South's defence some credit for only allowing 17 shots on average over those 16 games, but Ben's stats speak for themself. To answer someone's question a few pages ago. Deichert is south's backup and only a sophmore. Very talented, played in the Elite League this fall. Wilson says that Deichert has more talent then McClean, but wasn't ready at the begining of the year. Should be a great weekend of hockey up the GF.
  5. Just read the Dakota Student review and I'm not too sure how much you can take from a reviewer who had 2 martini's before 1pm. It would be sleepy time for me at about noon So here is my review. The wife and I ate at Suite 49 before Saturday's game. The wait for us was about 45 minutes, no big deal. For about the first 25 minutes nobody got up and left so they definitly have to figure out how to turn tables. At one point a group of guys sat down with beers and didn't order food. That's unaceptable IMO, if you're not going to eat stay in the bar, don't take a table. Once we were seated we took a quick look at the menu and knowing that we'd need to hurry, ordered 2 burgers as soon as our waitress came by. The burgers took over 30 minutes to be served. That is unaceptable. At least the burgers were hot and very good. I'll try them again, but if they haven't figured out how to turn tables and get food out quicker it will probably be my last.
  6. The Forum Published Wednesday, January 26, 2005 Paul Weisgarber had four goals and three assists to lead Fargo South to a win in Eastern Dakota Conference play Tuesday. Eric Galt had four assists and a goal for the Bruins (9-7, 8-1 EDC). Gary Stensgard had the lone goal for the Deacons. FIRST PERIOD: 1, S, Luecke (A. Campbell) 0:06. 2, S, Luecke (A. Campbell, Weisgarber) 2:09 (pp). 3, Shanley, Stensgard (Hurt) 4:18. 4, S, Weisgarber (Luecke, Galt) 7:43 (pp). 5, S, Weisgarber (Larson, A. Campbell)11:54. SECOND PERIOD: 6, S, Ramberg (Klebe, Balbey) 7:05 (pp). 7, S, Larson (Weisgarber) 10:20. 8, S, Weisgarber (Wurden, Galt) 10:32. 9, S, Towers (Spriggs) 12:47. 10, S, Galt 14:45 (pp). 11, S, A. Campbell (Weisgarber, Galt) 16:06 (pp). THIRD PERIOD: 12, S, Weisgarber (Galt) 3:13 (pp). 13, S, Grande (Kotchian, Doeden) 16:54. SAVES: Shanley, Bottrell 10-20-0-30, Traynor 0-6-9-15. South, McLean 3-2-0-5, Deichert 0-0-5-5. South dominates a bad Shanley team. I remember some Shanley guys saying that they were going to be a force a couple of years ago. Looked like numbers are really down. Too bad I remember watching some good Shanley team in the 80's. Weisgarber is now back 100% and their top line is very quick and dangerous.
  7. https://siouxshop.securelook.com/Ticket_Prices_Hockey.html Looks like 3 and over pay $11. I know my son will be 2 again next year.
  8. "We got trees" was great. The whole rink was laughing at that one. Anyone at the DECC see the 3rd place banner. Who hangs banners for 3rd?? Well, besides St. Clown and Mankato? Isn't it like getting the pink participation ribbon?
  9. Weisgarber has a knee injury and is out indefinatly. It's an injury that happened this summer and he tweeked it last week. Should be back by tourny time. Weisgarber is probably the most talented Jr. in ND. South has quite a few kids who will play in Div. III but a couple of fringe Div. 1 player may be Jr. foward Adam Campbell and So. goalie Adam Deichert. Deichert played in the Elite league this fall and played well to start but tappered off towards the end of the season. He struggled in his first couple of varsity starts, but he's a sophmore. Probably more talented than the senior McLean but not ready for prime time. There is a 6 foot freshman forward playing for South but I can't pass judgment on him yet.

    Hockey

Diggler, I was in Duluth and had a good look at the "clean check". It wasn't boarding, which was what they called, but it looked like a boarder line check from behind or perhaps a cross check. The Jones call is the one that I missed. I can see the Sioux coming out of that with one penalty, but two boggles the mind. Placing the loss on Jones and Greene is rediculous and assinine, but their play has not been what I expected.
  11. Hammy is quite the tool!! I haven't been to POI since I posted yesterday but I got the response that I expected. Basically, if you don't agree with him you are an idiot who doesn't have a F'ing clue. Oh well, my life will go on, although I'm not too sure about his.
  12. I'd just like to comment on the cross checking penalties that are taken in front of the net. I was an average sized (small in div. 1 standards) and I can tell you there is a way to move a player who's camped in front of the net. On the penalty kill you physically can't cover the two forwards in front of the net so what you have to do is tie up the stick of the strong side (where the puck is) forward, clog up the passing lanes from the corner, and if the puck rotates to the opposite corner you have to have quick feet to more to the corner. If the puck moves to the point or slot then you move the forward out of the shooting lanes. The Sioux's d-men are big and strong enough where they should have to resort to cross checking to get a forward out of the way. They just need to work on getting low and simply power the forward out of the way. I think the reason you see Green get penalties is because he hasn't had to refine his techniques in front of the net because he has always had a size and strength advantage. I sit in Sec. 113 and those cross checking penalties were dumb, borderline lazy penalties. Rip away.
  13. I just wanted to jump in this discussion. I don't think that anyone would argue that the Burgraff's are among the country's best power-skaitng instructors. In my opinion their power skating clinics/camps are a must for any youth hockey player. On the other hand, are they good hockey coaches?? As far as I know, and if I'm wrong I apologize, they do not have any coaching experience. This arguement will not be decided until the Burgraff's, and Shanley, have competed on there own for a few more years.
  14. As far as the Fargo South Administration goes I don't think they'll be firing Wilson since he was recently hired as a Dean of Students at South. As far as Jay Erickson is concerned I hatted him. He was my position coach for three years at south in the early 90's and I couldn't stand the guy. That was 11 years ago so maybe he's changed. As a South grad I hope they can rebound from a disapointing end to last year, and take home their 3rd state title.
  15. Goon- Three deep breaths. I did and still despise Doug Woog as a coach. Although, I wish he were still there. The Gophers would still be stuck on 3 championships. That said I still like him as an anouncer. He's a complete screwball, but a knowledgable one. Rip me apart if you wish, but I'm sticking to my guns.
  16. I think it is time to start a smear campaign agains Zach winning the Hobey. Does everyone rember Zach's little list of goals. I have a feeling that there are a lot of check marks being added this season. If we add National Championship, Hobey Baker Award winner, First Team West All-American to the already completed First team all rookie, first team all WCHA, McNaughton Cup, US Gold Medal, and World Jr. Championship MVP, I see a player with not a lot to stick around for. I hearby announce the unoffical UND Steve Saviano Hobey Baker Campaign. Lets rally around the "Perfect" Hobey Canidate. Can someone come up with a slogan?
  17. PCM- I actually thought Woog and (gasp) Frank did a good job not being a complete Gopher homers on Saturday. Woog couldn't stop talking about how Bochenski undressed Ballard. One of my fovorite coments that Woog made was, I belive in the 2nd period, when he said that if he was to be reincarnated he'd want to play with either Praise or Ballard. Pretty high praise from a guy who has seen a lot of talent. I know I'm in the minority on this site, but I like listening to Woog. He may be a homer (they sign his paychecks still), but he knows more about hockey than this entire board put togther. Unless, of course, we have some lurkers out there who think these board are "almost" a waste of time.
  18. Redwing- I think its all relative. Taylor is really the Gophers only physical presence at the blueline. We see him just as other teams saw Greene as a freshman. Now I'll put my green and white glasses back on and agree that he's a cheap no talent goon that needs his a$$ kicked.
  19. Does anyone know what channel Victory Sports will be on and if you need to subscribe to a premium package? I have Dish Network America's Top 120 and have never seen Victory Sports as a channel. Thanks in advanced.
  20. CRR- I don't think anyone has ripped ND hockey in this thread. I just started to bring some perspective to those who, after the ND state tourny, where listing a whole bunch of ND HS kids as UND prospects. I won't debate that GF has a fantastic program and IMO could compete on a consitent basis in MN. Hey I played against the GF North Bantam team that won a national championship. Maybe my view is skewed because I'm watching a great Moorhead team, but this year the ND teams don't stack up. It's not ripping, it's true.
  21. Sorry Jloos, the McFeeley article in the Forum kept on stating that he was a 3rd liner. I was doubting that when I saw him playing with Becker last night though. Does it really make a difference with Moorhead? They are real deep. FYI, I played at South from 90-93.
  22. This is a little post on perspective. First, I'll start this by saying that I am a huge ND high school supporter and ex-Fargo South hockey player. Now to my point. Last week the members of this board were gushing about all the potential ND HS players that UND should be recruiting, or at least keep an eye on. After watching the first round of the AA tournament in Minnesota, I have been again hit by a dose of reality. Moorhead has more bonafied Div. 1 talent than the entire state of ND. JLoos's cousin Cory was Fargo North's leading scorer as a Sophmore. If he would have stayed at North we'd be gushing about what a prospect this 6'2" 190lb scoring machine is. A can't miss UND recruit we'd say (my self included). Cory is now on Moorhead's 3rd line. Not 1st, not 2nd, but third. That really put things in perspective. I hope that the best of ND can someday compete with the best of MN, but right now it ain't happening. End of rant
  23. You guys are funny.Greene has been in exactly ZERO fights at UND and you guys build him up like he's some kind of great fighter. What a joke. Until i see him throw some punches,he's just another big guy.
