I'm glad Kelley decided to dump the idea of no nickname. I just can't get on board with that idea. I can live with North Stars, Nodaks, and Roughriders.

I think we are looking at this all wrong. NDSU doesn't have the money in hand and it has to come from somewhere. Donors are only going to give so much, no matter what you do. My guess is the bulk of this $700,000 comes from cuts in other areas. What we really need to look at is what is the rest of the Sky doing? The Montana schools said last spring they weren't going to do it and I think they meant it. The Sky is our real competition and that's where we look. We can't afford this for anything but hockey and neither can any other FCS school. You hide and watch, in a couple years NDSU is going to back away from this because in the end they wind up getting the same players they would have gotten any way and they have to bleed other programs to come up with the cash. There is a reason why only 2 FCS schools have announced going with this in the 6 months since this was implemented. It sounds good on the surface for cooler heads know nothing will be gained in the long run. Mark my words, NDSU back peddles soon. Do it for hockey and lets move on.

Starting Studs only makes sense. I've never been a big fan of Mollberg, and I've sadly concluded that Bartels isn't going to fully get the job done either, so it may as well be Studsrud since he's the future of the program. All I care about is making the playoffs and Studsrud gives us the best chance. And we had better make the playoffs, I'm sick and tired of no UND football after November.

Having no nickname isn't going to work. We all know what the agenda is of the no name crowd There is no need to refight the same battles again year after year and the only way we avoid this is go with a nickname. While Roughriders isn't my first choice, I can live with it and would support it. I can't live with or support being the University of North Dakota UND's.

That's for sure. We absolutely need to make the playoffs this year. Anything less is unacceptable

What I do find surprising is we are ranked only one notch above DRAKE! Something is surely not right there.

I brought up that very argument back in about 2007 that the NCAA could and probably would frown on the continued use of the Sioux name after we lost it, and I was shouted down by a chorus of free speech advocates who said I was full of bunk. We need to select a name and move on, there is no way the NCAA is going to let us stay as UND only, with the Sioux name then being the name we continue to use. I know you will still hear Fighting Sioux at games for years, we are going to have to at least make a good faith effort at this and select a new name.

I'm still staying with the position that we need an actual nickname. If we stay with just North Dakota, we will never move on. White I'm not happy with some of choices the committee gave us, most are still better than no name at all.

This has been very true in the past but I expect Bubba will step things up here as well.

I don't know where you got that idea from. I think most of us were led to believe that the agreement signed with the NCAA stipulated that we had to pick a new nickname, and no nickname ISN'T a new nickname.

I have to wonder how much this fiasco has cost in tax dollars? I'm assuming none of this was paid for with donations, so it had to come from tax dollars budgeted to UND. What a waste. Just get this thing over with and it won't end until we have a new name. Anyone want to even fathom a guess on what it cost?

I'm sorry but I just can't get enthused about Roughriders. Way too much baggage with this one. First off, we would be stealing it from RR. I know, it's been discussed a million times, but that doesn't change anything. They had it first. Next, it's the name of a ficking condom. I suppose we could be the Ribbed Roughriders, or the Lubed Roughriders, it would fit. I'm not crazy about some of the other names either, but my first two choices would be North Stars or Fighting Hawks. I'll reluctantly support what ever is picked, but we clearly have much better choices than 'riders.

IIRC he wound up at Green Bay as a late draft pick or FA. Had the tools to make it in the NFL.

But then, why tear apart a good, solid conference? I'm in favor of combining with the G5 although I don't see anything happening for some time down the road. Way, way too many unknowns yet for everyone, plus we really need to be a much better contender year in and year out before we can make such a move. Let's start making some noise in the playoffs before we talk about moving up.

Do we even have a commit yet this year? I don't recall any but I'm known to miss stuff. I've heard both NDSU and SDSU have gotten a few good kids this year.

You might as well announce we are going back to Fighting Sioux. End result will be exactly the same. It's time to move on and forget this nonsense about going with "no nickname" wink wink. It's to the point I'll take anything over no name.
