I don't know if the special teams coach recruits the kickers or not. Back in the day different assistants recruited based on geography.

Special teams coaches have very limited impact on the ability of the kickers. Rob Bollinger (among others) was the special teams coach when I played at UND. He was a great coach and got us in the right positions but kicking is an individual skill. Maybe things have changed but I rarely, if ever, heard from him regarding kicking technique.

I think 27 will be fine. In my experience - with those first few kicks in live action at college level seem to be in hyper speed. Things will mentally slow down for him quickly.

Word I got from parent of player who graduated last year is that the players love him. My minimal experience with him has been positive too.

Grill and cooler(s) are a must. It is also nice to have a table of some sort to set out food, napkins, etc. The rest is optional.

It's probably less than half that have tents. We don't use one unless rain is expected. It can get pretty windy in GF so tents can be a problem on some days unless you have a good one. I got a telescoping flagpole on Amazon that holds two flags and it works pretty well.
