I have Notre Dame apparel... with an interlocking ND... without any mention of Irish, Notre Dame, or Fighting Irish on them.

You might be right but that was the story I read at the time.

I have looked at merchandise for sale at times and haven't seen anything with interlocking ND that didn't specify either Notre Dame or North Dakota in some form somewhere else on it.    I did buy a ND t-shirt at the Notre Dame bookstore that was stand alone.

Maybe the story i read was wrong or maybe it has changed since then.

When did Notre Dame get the trademark? Decades ago most likely. Did ND ever tell UND to stop using it? It would seem no

It means a lot to the athletes who wore it.

    My understanding.

Notre Dame trademarked it.  UND was able to prove that we used it first based on some documents we found in Chester Fritz library.

Both schools came to an agreement.

    • Notre Dame can use the interlocking ND by itself on any merchandise sold on campus
    • Notre Dame must include Notre Dame, Fighting Irish or Irish along with the interlocking ND on any merchandise sold off campus.
    • UND must include Fighting Hawks or North Dakota on any merchandise sold with interlocking ND regardless of where it is sold.

I agree with you but there are injured guys whom have been under treatment and given some pretty heavy pain and sleep meds whom may have been late.  Is this really cause for discipline when these guys are giving up injury and dedication and get this BS in return for being late?? Really. If only all of us were punished for being 15 minutes late coming home to the wife, or 5 minutes late from Lunch because of an accident.  I understand if it was a repetitive occurrence but please understand mistakes do happen and the level of punishment is becoming like a witch hunt proving what.  You have players that will be seniors and have had a large investment put into them.  Will it benefit the program loosing those guys?

Recruits come for a visit and players take them out to parties and bars, then we expect them to commit and never think they will consume??? Why does UND not have a " dry" program with ZERO tolerance.  Would it surprise anyone to hear that the top players are also some of the largest consumers?? Would it be fair to not punish a player if he was more " valuable " and have a lesser player suspended??  Where does the line get crossed.  Not talking about drugs just beer or alcohol. Zero tolerance for any drug use is final.

I was 2-3 minutes late for my end of the year meeting with my head coach at UND because a train held me up.  He told me that he was seconds from closing the door and I should have planned so I was on time regardless of what happened on the way.

That was 30+ years ago so holding players accountable for being on time is nothing new.

You are correct. Biggest reason I would like Rudolph replaced.  I also think the QB situation and how it was handled is Bubba's biggest mistake as a head coach.  There was absolutely no reason for them to pull Studsrud's redshirt at the end of a year we weren't going to make the playoffs. Hanson could have finished the season handing the ball off and Studsrud would be a senior next year.  We all gave Keaton a pass for 3 years and much of this year because of the O line and receivers dropping passes.  We never gave either Mollberg  or Bartles a pass for the same problems.  Their  1st 2 yrs our o line was as bad or worse and we had no running game.  Their 1st yr they had talent at WR but those guys including Hardin had too many drops and the Fr Golladay and Jackson weren't always running the correct nor disciplined routes. Look at some of the old film and see what kind of protection those guys had.  Mollberg was developing his Soph year before he got hurt and both years you should have been able to see the potential.  Our staff did nothing to develop any of these three QB's.  What progress Studsrud made was more the result of his own initiative and hard work than coaching.  I know Mollberg and Bartles turned the ball over too much their Fr year but they also had no pass protection.  Keaton had more Int than TD's his senior year.  He also turned it over on a couple of fumbles.  Whose is to say how Mollberg would have played but he should have been given a chance. They didn't let him play even when Keaton was injured.  He got hurt when he was starting to play better and was told at the end of the season he was no longer in their plans.   Rudolph treated him like crap and he didn't deserve that. You don't do that to a kid who gets hurt playing for you.  The following August he was healthy and could have played.  For those who think it was because he wasn't healthy you don't know what you are talking about.  At the end of his Junior season one of the RB's told Mollberg Rudolph had commented he would never see the field Again as long as he was coaching here.  Mollberg said he would play any position they thought would help the team so he was moved to TE. They also hinted they would cut his scholarship.  I know some think my opinion is only because he was from DL.  Maybe you are right.  I also told UND Adam Thielen had the best hands of any HS receiver I had seen and I guess that must have been my DL bias too because UND didn't recruit him.  Incidentally, Mollberg set a DL BBB career scoring record his senior year breaking Adam Thielen's record.  He was Bohl and Vigen's top QB recruit his Sr year and they seem to know something about QB's. (Brock Johnson, Wentz and now Josh Allen).  How the hell Rudolph and Bubba didn't want to at least give him a fair shot at coming back from his injury will never make sense to me.  He was an excellent student, great athlete and great kid.  He had as good of an arm as I have seen at UND in the almost 50 yrs I have been involved with UND FB.   Had Mollberg been QB his last 2 years, he would have pissed off Rudolph because he would have changed some of the dumb ass play calling but I think we would have been better both years and made the playoffs 2 yrs ago and gone further in the playoff last year.  No way to know what would but if anyone doesn't think we need a QB  coach I disagree and I would bet all three of those QB's would agree.   I think Bubba did what he thought would be best for the team and what he was trying to establish offensively.  I disagreed with his decision but he is at practice and he is coaching.  He is the one held responsible for the decisions.  In that I supported him. They way Rudolph treated Mollberg was not acceptable and I will support his dismissal.

I like Bubba but have completely disagreed with his decision to not give Mollberg a shot after he was injured and came back.   I'm guessing he didn't want to mess with his starter (Studsrud) but when Studsrud was hurt he went with Bartels and never even gave Joe a look.  Joe's upside was much higher than Bartels.

Don't know if this analogy is that pertinent.  They had all their skill players on offense,  which typically make up your first two lines in hockey.  Sure they lost a few offensive lineman and the rest were young, but look at how the young players are doing for UND in hockey.   Bottom line is it is apples to oranges, so why try draw that type of analogy.  There was a time when UND couldn't even dress a full lineup in hockey, yet made a run at getting to another Frozen Four.

I don't think he was intending to say all of the skilled players were out, but of those players expected to play most of the minutes - we were missing half of them.  If you look at it that way it is analogous.

Young players in hockey are different than in football.  In hockey they are expected to come in physically ready and to compete immediately - that is mostly not true in football.  It is a different game.  When Lennon was having success he essentially red-shirted his entire roster each year with an exception every few  years.

Also there is not the two years of USHL or other junior programs for football players to develop after HS.

  6. I posted this on 2017 Season thread but most of injury discussion is here so posting here as well.

Goon with a good analogy.  Some have done a similar comparison with hockey and used the % of total football roster.  I think Goon is closer to reality since so many football players come to school not ready for DI football and and aren't expected to play much if at all in a given season.    As a % of those counted on to play a large role on the team this is pretty close.

I think you'll find these comments are pretty common on  fan message boards.

Maybe we could strive to be better than those other boards

I stood and talked with a current players parents at the SUU game.  The father told me he reads this message board after games.  I'm sure recruits do too.

What exactly am I not getting? That there is a difference between playoffs and regular season?...smh

There is a common theme among about three posters on this board that I find pretty funny. You continue to subtly state that NDSU’s dominant run would’ve been different if they had to play on the road for those playoff games. The complete idiocy of your logic revolves around the fact that it is 100% due to NDSU’s dominance in the regular season(you say doesn’t mean anything) that they’ve earned every single Home playoff game in the last 7 years. As I said, you want NDSU to travel in December? You know what to do.

You are correct sir.  Home playoff games are earned during the regular season.

2 in section 302A Row G  right above the entryway in the upper deck on the end UND shoots twice.  Seats on the aisle in a 6 seat row, so people aren't coming in and out all the time.  $30 each.

Thanks.   I just picked up some from another poster.

I felt at 14-0 we hit rock bottom on the year.  We responded and it actually looked like we were having fun.  Even 2 quality losses to finish the year would be OK, compared to getting embarrassed.  1-1 would be fantastic.

I was with you.  The fg’s seemed like a bad idea at the time but it worked out
