  1. Well, this is all interesting, but let's get to the real question that will probalby pop up by visitors from the south: How does this affect the NDSU Buffaloes?
  2. OMG! I just posted that without seeing your post!
  3. It was a good rivalry for awhile. There were moments. I remember the sign, "Sal is dead, go Big Red" at the border. That was as nasty as it could get. However, in retrospect, the CU fans were jerks. The point is that McCartney set the bar high. That is what needs to be done with UND.
  4. The Bakken Trophy idea is very good. Even though Montana is THE team (for now!) in the Big Sky, every year UND will play MSU or UNC. UNC..nah. MSU, much more tradition. I remember when Bill McCartney, the former CU Buffs coach put Nebraska as THE rival of CU on the board. People laughed. Eventually, it was true, CU played at that level and beyond for the years he was there. UND has to do the same thing with schools like Montana, MSU, and *cough, cough* NDSU. Time to cowboy up!
  5. If Parise would stipulate in a contract with the "wild" that they would have to change that stupid name, I would hope he signs with them...
  6. Thought you'd like it!
  7. Somebody mentioned the name "Wildfire", well this is what the Air Force Academy Stadium view looked like today... Yeah. Not a fan of the "Wildfire" name...
  8. Old man sarcasm? I resemble that remark! Yes, I was being sarcastic. Now, I will use a smiley face..
  9. No, no, no. The reason is that people confuse UND with NDSU. Even there. It's not that they want UND stuff. They think they are buying NDSU stuff. Don't you learn anything on these forums?
  10. On syllable, just like Sioux. Does not end in "s". Same amount of letters. Appropriate for the region. I like it.
  11. As opposed to the hundreds of times that has never happened... You never took a statistics class, have you?
  12. Hardrockers? That's a great nickname, to be honest.

  14. For years UND Fighting Sioux fans have thought that the "tomahawk chop" and some kind of weird "war chant" was just stupid and racist. I'm glad you brought that up. It always pissed me off when nickname opponents would show a "sieve chant" picture as if we were doing a tomahawk chop.
  15. You're probably right about the pipe ceremony. Unfortunately, the NCAA doesn't care. That's all that matters in this case.
  16. It was the thing to do at UND during the long cold winter. It bonded the students and added to our pride in our school and our state. There are so many fond memories of going to the old Ralph. Not only for the games but waiting overnight for the tickets, but going to open skate nights and reading the nasty things carved into the visitor's bench about Herb Brooks and other "enemies of the Sioux". Then on the nights I couldn't go to the game because of work, or other reasons, the parties and gatherings of students to watch the games however they could, even tolerating sports announcers like Jim Adelson and Ed Schultz who hadn't a clue about hockey just to see them on TV. (Honestly, we usually turned down the volume and turned on the radio broadcast.) Then, of course, there was Frenchy's! I took my sister, nephew and his then fiance to a DU/UND game in Denver a few years ago. None of them had ever been to a North Dakota hockey game before. My nephew's fiance said she would cheer DU. I was okay with it, I told her enjoy the game and cheer for whoever you want. She sat at the end of the rink in the primarily North Dakota cheering section. After listening to quite a few extremely rude DU fans and listening to the North Dakota fans cheer their team, she switched sides. Now married to my nephew, she recently asked me if we'd still cheer the Sioux even if the name is gone. I told her that it didn't matter, they're always going to be my team. She said that she wants to go again and cheer UND, as long as she could borrow a UND jersey to wear at the game! They have a baby due in September. I think I need to buy something from Siouxsports for the event!
  17. A statement of fact is that the BCS teams are superior to FCS teams. They play with the advantage of the better athletes, more money, more scholarships, etc... At the University of North Dakota we were instructed to look facts and reality straight in the face and acknowledge them. I guess in Buffaloville, that doesn't happen, eh? I'm glad UND is in a superior FCS football conference. I will cheer them to win a FCS conference and national championship. They will not only do well at that level, they will exceed.
  18. Hmmm. You sound like George Costanza trying to justify shrinkage when he gets out of the water...
  19. You got a point there. I was just wondering with the incoming 4 team playoff for the superior Bowl teams, which I know will expand rapidly and quickly, if they will change the FCS name again...
  20. I think that we are just happy to see our football/bb teams get into a stable good FCS/D-1 conference. Yeah, maybe it's a little better than MVC in football, but what I like is that it includes more sports than just football. (Okay, maybe a little bit of a dig at NDSU.) I think if UND commits to the facilities and builds that mutli-use sports training facility and upgrades their football stadium, it will be much less than 40 years before a FCS (Or whatever they'll call it) championship.
  21. Almost right, but not quite. The whole season was orchestrated by Brian Faison in exactly the fashion necessary (which a small part of it was to manipulate the polls) for the NCAA to ship the buffalo D-1 champeenship banner to Grand Forks. It was brilliant!
  22. Southern Utah is proven at this level? Yup. You are a troll not worth my time, anyway.
