If I was stuck chasing a diploma from the College of Home Economics at the University of Agriculture and Applied Science, I'd drink too.
  3. I know that some states only allow state employees, football coaches at public universities for example, to have one year contracts. Colorado had that law in effect, then they made exceptions. I can't remember if they did it through a foundation or not.. Here's more general information http://www.sportsmanagementresources.com/library/coach-contract-elements
  4. ' That last line made me laugh. Yeah, I guess it took coach Mac a few more years to bring them up to championship level. But, he had the teams attention, although there were a few incidents off the turf with them, for the most part they were focused. On the other hand, coach Mac had to play a tough Big 8 schedule every year...Mussman has had time to prepare for a BSC schedule...or ill-prepare for it. Bring in a visionary. Get rid of Mussman.
  5. Me. Excited! Beat the Rodents! I can wait. Hopefully we can take them out in the NCAA tourney a couple of times before 2016!
  6. I've lived in Colorado quite awhile, and I remember when Coach McCartney took over CU. He made the Nebraska game the "red letter" game of the year for the Buffs. People thought he was nuts. Nebraska traditionally crushed CU. But, a few short years later, CU started beating them and eventually won the AP Poll National Championship. Maybe we need a coach like that..come in, point at Montana on the calendar and say, "That's who we're shooting for, year in and year out that's our red letter game!" Hey, forget FU. We need to win in the BSC and Montana is the program to go after.
  7. Idaho State 45 UND 28... This season is a wash... Fire Mussman.
  8. The facility will help and new coaching staff will help. But, it's not the end all either. Grand Forks, ND needs an indoor practice facility. The difference in climate between Youngstown, OH and Grand Forks dictates that the training facility is more important in Grand Forks. Yeah, Youngstown hasn't dominated FCS like FU has...but they haven't exactly been bad either. 4-1 right now. The only loss to Michigan State. Good recruits expect good facilities. Without them, unless the program is a perennial power, they will go elsewhere. We also need to focus on the BSC and not worry about FU. Until UND gets good in the BSC, playoffs and FCS championship hopes are just a pipe dream.
  9. I know this thread was started with a lot of passion toward rebuilding the football program. I just don't like the title. UND is great and has been for years. The football team is in a pretty rough patch right now. Replace Mussman. Pay $$ for a coach that can handle the FCS level successfully. Keep building that indoor training facility. UND football will be stronger than ever before.

That would be a good problem. $413,000 buyout? No biggie for a big time program. They'd be happy to pay it.
  11. One thing is for certain. Straightening out the football program is the surest way of increasing revenue to the athletic department. I would say do what the University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences did...offer an incentive for increased attendance to the new coach. Also, DO NOT give an extension based on barely making the playoffs...(Which is still better than a Great West championship...which was the lamest reason to give an extension in the history of UND football..)
  12. Come to Loveland, Colorado and have the IPA from Verboten Brewery. Pretty good stuff. Of course, the competition here is amazing...
  13. I watched that game. Even though the Buffalo won handily on the scoreboard, Ferris State players never quit. They didn't dance or snap towels on the sideline either...
  14. We'll let Cassel back in...for now. I gotta keep reminding myself..they are playing the decimated Steelers...

I wonder if he'd announce...maybe with the last two games left, that this will be Mussman's last season and allow him to finish it out? Give potential recruits some hope they aren't stuck with him.

I don't know. Most agents for a coach would make the buyout a major part of a contract extension. Well, maybe if his coaching is a reflection of his ability to choose an agent or negotiate a contract? Let's hope!

I wonder if Faison is calling alums and lining up the money it will take to fire him and hire another coach? Gotta be major regret in extending that contract... And if geaux sioux is calling for his firing, midseason, you know it's bad.
  18. If the Bears make the playoffs, how would that hire work? How would recruiting be affected? The money thing would be a good wake up to the UND athletic department. Yeah, Hak deserves his salary. But, if you want to play with the bigger boys, you better pay up. No bucks, no Buck Rogers..

So, does this loss put a damper on our playoff chances?

Wouldn't surprise me either. Fire Mussman...end of season. Buy out the contract and move on. The option is to keep him and just take on the nickname, "Bengal Bears", because at that point we've admitted we ARE Northern Colorado and Idaho State squared...
  21. I'm off to the movies. Promised no football this afternoon, a movie instead. A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. I'm pessimistic, but hopeful.
