    New Jerseys

Official school colors are actually green and... pink. The only time I saw pink was at graduation. Although, now the women's teams do the pink uniforms for breast cancer awareness, which is a great idea.
  2. It's like negotiating with a terrorist, isn't it?
  3. Well, just remember. Everyone against the use of the Sioux name now is of like mind and all have the exact same reasons. We are lock-step! Get in line, mister!
  4. I'm hoping for a Omaha and UND sweep. Maybe third?
  5. No, you're wrong. Why I saw Jesse Taken Alive wearing a Sioux jersey and speaking very reasonably about how the name has to be retired to protect the University of North Dakota's athletic department. That's why we are all the same. Didn't you get the memo?
  6. Denver Post (Mark Kizla) keeps going off on how many green jerseys were at the game. Made some poor remarks about how the Sioux were getting chippy. Yeah...the Pioneers are angels, aren't they? I am happy with the split. Not happy with special teams play yesterday. But, if they sweep the purple cows and make the semis or beyond of the WCHA final five or six or whatever its called now, they'll get into a regional. Good year for getting experience. But, I'd love to see a Duluth kind of run at the end!
  7. Maybe after the dust settles they should be called "The Fighting Proctracted Settlement"
  8. Let's see the dasher dance! Go Gwaz go!
  9. Oh yeah! As long as we don't use the one they proposed at the FargoDome! Sorry, just can't help myself!
  10. You bet! Shoot for the stars!
  11. Oh, it'll be fine. Until the NC$$ decides that we are offending the wombat population by implying that they all scream. Then, back to the drawing board again!
  12. Do you mean the new 45,000 seat Memorial Stadium that will be the home of the University of North Dakota Screaming Wombats of the newly formed Big 64 Western Mountain Southwestern Mid-American NorAtlanticEast Pacific Sky Athletic Coalition Conference of North America? I can't wait!
  13. I agree. CSU is making big plans. They want a new stadium on campus. Big talk right now, but other than paying the big $$ to the n ew coach, nothing is set in stone. But, the expectations are high. And now they have a guy who understands how to win at the college level. It could be interesting. But, they lost a few players loyal the the old coach. Recruiting is hurting a bit due to the transition. The usual stuff when a new coach comes in. But, if NDSU plays at the level they did this past year, it could be an interesting game. I took my last year of classes through CSU. transfered the credits and finished my undergrad degree at UND, so I generally pull for the Rams in these situations. But, hey, if my buddy feeds me enough good Odell's ale from Fort Collins, I could be swayed. Plus, I am busy with a grad program at Wyoming, so my loyalties in the MWC are with the Cowboys now.
  14. I'm not so sure. CSU has had real coaching problems recently. Steve Fairchild, the recently canned coach, came from the NFL and laid an almost three inch thick playbook on his offense. The kids were confused as all Hell. This new guy could turn it around quickly. I could see them winning 7 or 8 games. But, they could deteriorate just as quickly. Well, I guess that's why they play the games!
  15. A friend from NDSU and I are planning on attending the Colorado State University game in early September. At first, he thought NDSU had good shot at beating CSU. Now, with CSU's new coaching staff, he's not so sure. It will be an interesting matchup for both programs. I'm sure when CSU signed the contract, they had no idea how quickly NDSU would develop at the FCS level. However, that CSU coach, Jim McElwain (the recent Alabama offensive co-ordinator) is commanding a 1.35 million dollar salary and there are high, high expectations.
  16. Good point. But, warmer weather, more people in the surrounding area. The culture is football down there. Ours is hockey. We do well with hockey. We do well at our level of football. I say we get better at the FCS level before even thinking of FBS.
  17. Strange, isn't it? If they kill the athletic department, the jerseys will vanish from the shelf. If the Sioux name goes away, yeah, the jerseys will also vanish from the shelf, but they can still wear the jerseys to the games. Sure, it's a lose/lose for them. But, it's almost like they would prefer to burn down the house than live in one painted a different color.
  18. From wikipedia: As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 616,561. The metro area is currently the third largest in the Northwestern United States after Seattle and Portland. It is the 86th largest metropolitan area in the United States overall. and: Two counties make up the metropolitan area – Grand Forks County in North Dakota and Polk County in Minnesota. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 98,461.[1] Bottom line: Boise could do it because of the market. UND cannot.
  19. I'll wear my Fighting Sioux gear to games. I wear my hat and a t-shirt or hoodie around town sometimes. But, I wonder if this just encourages those folks? Just throwing that out there...
  20. Hey, consider it a compliment to be seen as the alternative to the flagship university in the great state of North Dakota.
  21. I've been thinking about the stakeholders in this decision. In the past, I would have to say that both alumni and just plain ol' Sioux fans were equal stakeholders. But, after what happened at Dickinson State, I would have to say that alumni have a bigger stake. Something that reflects poorly on our university affects the value of our education. Obvioulsy, our issue isn't nearly as horrible as what happened in Dickinson. But, there is still a problem. This ongoing controversy, although it is only about a name, does reflect on the University of North Dakota as a whole. It needs to be resolved to shift the focus away from the name and refocus on the value of the education we received. Getting this issue resolved should be a priority for those of us who have our degrees through UND. It is important outside of the more minor issue of athletics. Therefore, we are the bigger stakeholders. They, the fans without any educational ties, are stakeholders as fans, but minor stakeholders.
  22. About what? Be specific. If you are vague, nobody knows and nobody will care.
  23. If you want to be taken seriously, clean it up. Also, mass media includes printed media, even internet websites and blogs. It's not just radio/tv. However, radio and tv copy also needs grammar and spelling corrections made in order to those to do proper oral interpretation of that written script or copy. Any of the huge variety of uses for what you may believe is multimedia also requires proper grammar and spelling. But, in your case, I would also worry about content. Focus on the meaning. Think, "Is this a meaningful statement? Does it address the topic? Will the public understand what I am trying to say? Is it done in the context of the discussion?" If you wish to succeed in the "media", as you call it, you need to address these issues.
