If by gutted you mean 7 starters back on both offense and defense then maybe. NDSU will be VERY good next year. Biggest question mark is defensive tackle, and they have 2 freshmen redshirting this year that had FBS offers (in one case from Pitt) that are big and strong and they are very high on. They will be in the playoffs and I would be surprised with anything less than a quarter final appearance.

Bubba's Staff: Who's it gonna be?.......and when?
nd1sufan replied to Siouxperfan777's topic in Football
But the problem is this is NOT Big Sky territory and never will be. UND has lost most of a generation of ND kids who are football fans. It has been way too easy for the better high school players in the state to follow NDSU football than UND football the last 5 or 6 years. You can watch all of the NDSU games on national or state wide television. You can see a handful of UND games if you have Mid Continent cable. UND football gets very little play in the media in comparison to NDSU. Even the voice of UND football rarely if ever talks about UND sports on his daily radio show. The whole may be too large to dig out of. Bubba seems like a really good and genuine guy, but I don't see him going into a kids living room and setting the world on fire. I'm not sure he was the best choice for head coach, even if the almighty Virg Foss thinks it is. -
The cupboard will not be bare next year for NDSU. 6 of the 7 lb's and db's that played today and their best d-lineman are back, along with 3 or 4 others that rotated on the d-line this year. Compared to what UND has coming back next year, NDSU is stocked like a Walmart Supercenter and UND is like a Stop-N-GO. NDSU wouldn't have to win another FBS game for the next 40 years and will still have a better FBS win percentage than UND against FBS schools.
-
Head to head results don't mean much if you don't win another game during the season. I guess you are saying NDSU would have been a top half football team in the Big 12 this year, since they beat K-State, who finished in the middle of the Big 12.
-
That would be the best possible hire for NDSU. He is the architect of the defense, could hire one of his defensive assistants as d-coordinator and could find an O-Coordinator elsewhere that would be as good as Vigen. Would also have a great chance of keeping current players and most of the committed recruits, which they have a few of with FBS offers already. Also think he would take it if offered. I don't think he left UNI to come to NDSU to be a career assistant.

If had had been drinking until 2:00 am (or all night as far as we know) and they got back to Fargo by early pm, he was more than likely not sober yet. If he was still obviously visibly intoxicated driving to the airport, If your system can get rid of .01 alcohol an hour, and he was at .20 (just a guess but he is apparently an experienced drinker and it would take a lot of alcohol to make an experienced drinker appear obviously drunk), he would still be considered drunk after the flight.
-
He couldn't have a breathalyzer or blood test because he drove off. So I guess the moral of the story is, if you are drunk and run into to somebody, just leave and sober up. You may be charged with hit and run, but at least you won't get a DUI. Since he left the scene, it should only take the testimony of anybody with him at the time of the incident that he appeared intoxicated to be able to charge him with DUI. By the way, did he drive from Fargo to Grand Forks when they got off the plane? By then, the other coaches had to have known what had happened and never should have let him drive.
-
Nice reporting back in 2012 GF Hearld. NDSU has an assistant wrestling coach get a DUI and it is on the front page, UND has a head volleyball coach get one and its reported a year and a half later just because there is another incident with him.
-
You guys are most likely all right. The PSU police department is framing Hardee to get him out of the conference. They rented the van after Hardee dropped it off at the airport, drove it back to campus and ran into a parked vehicle.
-
He was either under the influence of he is too stupid to be working at "The Flagship" university in North Dakota. As for the people saying he didn't realize that he hit another vehicle, there were 5 other people in the van. Somebody would have noticed and my guess would have said something to him.
-
Then why don't you stop? If you are late to the airport, you catch a later flight. People miss flights all of the time and get rescheduled. The Bison basketball team got back at 11:00 PM Sunday because they miss a connecting flight.
-
Get back to me when there is a crime called "resisting false arrest". And from what I have heard it was the other guy who wanted to take it outside because he was feeling pretty tough with his 2 buddies with him to back him up.
-
Logic should tell you it was 5:05 AM and he didn't stop because alcohol WAS involved. If alcohol wasn't involved he stays and calls police. But because it most likely was alcohol related, he doesn't want to stay and get a DWI with his players in the van.

Good guys do make mistakes. Generally they are smart enough not to run from an accident when they are in their mid 40's and should know better. Maybe a 20 year old gets scared and does that, but not someone in charge of a Division 1 program while they are on a road trip with their team. I actually like most of UND's coaches and administrators. Jones, Brewster, Mussman, Faison all seem to be generally good and nice people. Ashlee Hardee comes off as an arrogant, unlikable man.
-
I guess good guys are out at 5:05 AM after a loss at a tournament and run their car into somebody then take off? Not my idea of a good guy and role model. Do you suppose he may have been drinking and that is why he drove off? Bite my tongue, not Ashlee Hardee.
-
But Hardee is a great coach. How could he be taken by surprise by another much inferior coach. Are you saying he was outcoached? You better watch what you say about him.
-
Feel sorry for the kids, but not for the coach. Hardee is apparently a good coach, but way too arrogant. When UND went into the Big Sky, he pretty much guaranteed they would win the Big Sky and get into the NCAA's. He said even if the didn't win the tournament, they would be a Top 25 type team and get an at large bid. Do you suppose he will be watching tomorrow with his team waiting for their name to be called?
-
How many games will the Big Sky win in the playoffs this year? I would say the over/under is 2.

UND vs Cal Poly (Oregon Tourney Day 1, 11/29)
nd1sufan replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Well Santa Clara is a much better team than Cal Poly, and NDSU beat them at their gym. while UND loses at a neutral site by 27. UND seems to only play well at home. History would tell us it would be NDSU by 40 if they played at the BSA this year. (See SDSU a couple of years ago) -
That's right, Hakstol has run into a hot goalie in the playoffs in every one of this 11? years. Maybe he should recruit a hot goalie....... I'm sure Hak would tell you differently, but eventually in 11 years, you end up with some of the good bounces and not all of the bad ones.

Actually it could be bad news for UND. MidCo could try to get the rights to NDSU athletics instead of UND. With a presence in Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo and NDSU football being the the hottest ticket to get, it would make sense to go after it. Also, what better way to get Fargo residents to make the switch than to tell them they won't see NDSU athletics if they stay with Cable One. Also, most of Midco's coverage area is in the Summit League footprint. The out state viewers would be more interested in watching a Summit League Basketball or volleyball game than a Big Sky game.
-
Klieman would be a great choice but as a Bison fan, I hope he is not interested. I think he may be waiting for Bohl to take a job at the next level as he would be the obvious choice to replace Bohl. He may be making more than Mussman made this year anyway.
-
Unfortunately, I think Muss is gone. He was the #1 recruiting resource in the State of North Dakota.... For NDSU.
-
Because its hard to write about UND athletics when you aren't allowed on campus.

Mr. Miller apparently is ready for an unpaid 2-week vacation. Although 2 weeks pay may be a small price to pay for not having to watch that team play again this year.
