The real work at NDSU is going on right now. Games are won just as much now in the weight and training rooms than in fall camp, and with Jim Kramer staying on as their strength and conditioning coach, they will continue with that mind set. You don't have to get the strongest and most talented guy on campus as a freshman as long as they are willing to put in the work to get faster, stronger and better conditioned. I think NDSU has done an good job of getting those kids, and when they get one that isn't willing to put in the work, they are gone.

If Sam Houston and Delaware move up, I look for NDSU and SDSU to make a push for the Mountain West. I think they may be open to 10 schools in case Boise or Fresno leave. They would make good travel partners for all sports other than football. If the FCS loses 2-4 more top schools, NDSU won't stay.

Where are the other scholarships coming from? You are allowed 13 in Mens Basketball.
-
You may be right. Hearing the NDSU offer is a partial and the UND is a full ride.
-
So UND=Harvard? And yes, If a St. Cloud grad interviews better and sound more competent than a Harvard grad, he gets the job. Guess what, the person with the best grades in high school doesn't necessarily make a better employee.
-
A degree from UND or NDSU is worth exactly the same, get over yourselves. I work at a company that has hundreds of college grads. I asked the HR person in charge of recruiting if it matters where the prospective employee got their degree. I was told it makes ZERO difference. Just that they have one, after that it is all about the personality and what they bring to the interview.

I think you are seeing why with all of his talent and athletic ability that Huff is not at a major D-1 school. He has the talent but is too selfish with the ball. Jones needs to sit him when he gets out of control and gets into his it's me against the world mindset. I just don't think Jones has the guts to sit him for a half, or whatever it takes. Can you imagine Huff playing like that in Bo Ryan's system? He wouldn't have lasted a year, and he has been doing it for 4 in Jones system.

I think NDSU was Jensen's only offer other than D2 schools. It worked out pretty well for them.

While I agree NDSU needs big men for next year, but I think you are getting way too excited over Shanks. 7 footers with skills don't end up at mid or low majors. If he was that good, the U of M would have offered a scholarship and gotten him admitted. He could very well be a Calcaterra or Salmonson, just 3 inches taller. I have seen a few 6-11 or 7 footers come through the BSA in the last 6 or 7 years, and only one had any skills at all, Keith Benson at Oakland.

UND wins are Robert Morris, Northern Colorado, Weber State? and who? Don't know who will be strong in BSC next year, who else do you see as a win for UND?
-
If UND coaches have the same attitude against Agriculture that UND fans have, I can see why they don't do real well on the recruiting trail with the big offensive and defensive lineman (or other positions) at the small town North Dakota and rural Minnesota schools.

With everybody talking about the impending demise of NDSU football, which number do you think will be higher next year, UND wins or NDSU losses. I put the over/under at 3.

Believe it or not Ira, most kids looking to play football are phy ed, business, science, engineering majors, etc. They can get a quality education and degree at NDSU just as well as at UND. Even if they want to be doctors or dentists, they can get a biology or zoology under grad degree and get into med school after their playing days are over. If you think employers in the Fargo or Twin Cities areas look at grads from UND as better than NDSU you are delusional. What are the advantages at UND over NDSU when kids get on campus? There is no atmosphere at football games, there has been very limited fan support, not a lot of media exposure. What is it? the big quonset they play in? The city of Grand Forks? The Red Pepper? I would like to know. Tim Polasek came back to NDSU this year after being at Northern Illinois. He said he has been all around the MAC and nobody, including Northern Illinois has the facilities, atmosphere and support that NDSU has. UND can offer immediate playing time right now, and that is about the only advantage they have, unless you have someone that wants to be a pilot or air traffic controller.

Kind of like UND coaches telling players they were going to play at Hawaii and be building a new outdoor stadium? Well I guess NDSU recruits did get to play for a National Championship.........
-
Crockett and Bonnet are counted as starters because they played as much and probably are more talented than the starters. And Thorton at LB started about half of the season if you count the playoffs. Schatz? and Hardee also saw plenty of time on the D-line, but I am not counting them as starters. Champion and Colvin could have probably started on most FCS teams at corner this year, just not at NDSU.

Bubba's Staff: Who's it gonna be?.......and when?
nd1sufan replied to Siouxperfan777's topic in Football
I guess we will find out in about a month. Both staffs are getting started at about the same time. We will see who gets the best ND kids very soon. -
If by gutted you mean 7 starters back on both offense and defense then maybe. NDSU will be VERY good next year. Biggest question mark is defensive tackle, and they have 2 freshmen redshirting this year that had FBS offers (in one case from Pitt) that are big and strong and they are very high on. They will be in the playoffs and I would be surprised with anything less than a quarter final appearance.

Bubba's Staff: Who's it gonna be?.......and when?
nd1sufan replied to Siouxperfan777's topic in Football
But the problem is this is NOT Big Sky territory and never will be. UND has lost most of a generation of ND kids who are football fans. It has been way too easy for the better high school players in the state to follow NDSU football than UND football the last 5 or 6 years. You can watch all of the NDSU games on national or state wide television. You can see a handful of UND games if you have Mid Continent cable. UND football gets very little play in the media in comparison to NDSU. Even the voice of UND football rarely if ever talks about UND sports on his daily radio show. The whole may be too large to dig out of. Bubba seems like a really good and genuine guy, but I don't see him going into a kids living room and setting the world on fire. I'm not sure he was the best choice for head coach, even if the almighty Virg Foss thinks it is. -
The cupboard will not be bare next year for NDSU. 6 of the 7 lb's and db's that played today and their best d-lineman are back, along with 3 or 4 others that rotated on the d-line this year. Compared to what UND has coming back next year, NDSU is stocked like a Walmart Supercenter and UND is like a Stop-N-GO. NDSU wouldn't have to win another FBS game for the next 40 years and will still have a better FBS win percentage than UND against FBS schools.
-
Head to head results don't mean much if you don't win another game during the season. I guess you are saying NDSU would have been a top half football team in the Big 12 this year, since they beat K-State, who finished in the middle of the Big 12.
-
That would be the best possible hire for NDSU. He is the architect of the defense, could hire one of his defensive assistants as d-coordinator and could find an O-Coordinator elsewhere that would be as good as Vigen. Would also have a great chance of keeping current players and most of the committed recruits, which they have a few of with FBS offers already. Also think he would take it if offered. I don't think he left UNI to come to NDSU to be a career assistant.

If had had been drinking until 2:00 am (or all night as far as we know) and they got back to Fargo by early pm, he was more than likely not sober yet. If he was still obviously visibly intoxicated driving to the airport, If your system can get rid of .01 alcohol an hour, and he was at .20 (just a guess but he is apparently an experienced drinker and it would take a lot of alcohol to make an experienced drinker appear obviously drunk), he would still be considered drunk after the flight.
-
He couldn't have a breathalyzer or blood test because he drove off. So I guess the moral of the story is, if you are drunk and run into to somebody, just leave and sober up. You may be charged with hit and run, but at least you won't get a DUI. Since he left the scene, it should only take the testimony of anybody with him at the time of the incident that he appeared intoxicated to be able to charge him with DUI. By the way, did he drive from Fargo to Grand Forks when they got off the plane? By then, the other coaches had to have known what had happened and never should have let him drive.
-
Nice reporting back in 2012 GF Hearld. NDSU has an assistant wrestling coach get a DUI and it is on the front page, UND has a head volleyball coach get one and its reported a year and a half later just because there is another incident with him.
-
You guys are most likely all right. The PSU police department is framing Hardee to get him out of the conference. They rented the van after Hardee dropped it off at the airport, drove it back to campus and ran into a parked vehicle.
