    What??

I am saying if you look at records of FCS teams from this year, there were some teams left out that had 8 and 9 wins, which were more than UND had. UND fans seem to be fixated on only the number of wins and not the quality of opponents.

    How many other teams?

More than one team. Same as a few others. Less than quite a few teams that were left out. Since we aren't supposed to take strength of schedule into account, there were some 8 and 9 win teams left out.

I know, but whatever Jones has this team doing is actually working. No fan of Jones, but I like where this team is currently, and hope it continues all season long.

Yes, Jones is a genius. He has them playing against Big Sky teams. They should have beaten both of those teams this weekend.

Shanks is playing at less than 100% and it shows. Was fairly sick early in the season and don't think he has his strength back yet. It was also mentioned at the luncheon that he was wearing a boot around. He plays with his emotion on his sleeves (sometimes to a detriment) but he's not performing at the level he knows he can and it compounds. Probably a good spot to mention he has one full year of college ball under his belt and 2 1/2 more years to go. He'll be fine and UND needs to him to make a run in March.

You are right in that UND has a lot of talent on their team. However, Carson Shanks is not one of those players. He would make a very good center in the NSIC (not even the best in that league), but he is not a D1 center. He's averaging 7 points and 4 rebounds a game, and I don't see that improving much over the next two years. He is a transfer from another mid-major program. There is usually a reason they are transferring, and it isn't because they are lighting it up at their previous school. See DeRouen, Tyler, Shanks, etc.

Simply? That's a pretty brash statement considering the three Illinois schools are already facing budget cuts, MSU is stretched thin and who knows what Indiana State is doing. Plus half the MVFC schools are more worried about basketball than football. I'd say both conferences have more than their share of schools that are incapable of funneling more money towards football. The difference is, the Big Sky has the potential to survive a split of some sort and remain viable on two levels if it became possible, the MVFC does not.

Funny, a couple of weeks ago two of those Illinois schools and Indiana State were ready to join a revamped MVC that had FBS football that didn't include the Dakota schools. Which is it? I pointed out Ind. St had no money to make the move and was told they would have no problem coming up with the money. According to SV, it sounded like the conference presidents in the MVC had met and this was pretty much a done deal.

I know the pipe dream of every Fighting Hawk FB fan is UND going FBS and NDSU having no choice but to drop down to D2, but I hate to tell you, it's not going to happen. UND will not go anywhere without NDSU making the move first.

Agree.   Hope he goes in the first round.

He signed with a pretty high profile agent. I think his stock will keep going up after meeting with the NFL personnel people. I hope to see him on the John Gruden ESPN QB specials.

While I don't agree with the entire conversation and don't think anything "funny" goes on in Fargo. How many NDSU players haven't sat out when breaking team rules, or the law?  It's a program that's places winning above anything else.

Well, Klieman did dismiss a player during the playoffs for breaking team rules. There is that.

On one hand, NDSU was a few plays away from being undefeated, on the other hand their regular season was a few plays away from being 7-4.

     2) they are doing something different with their players than the rest of college football, and I am not necessarily saying it's illegal, but the thought has crossed my mind.

This is pathetic. Accusing NDSU of cheating because you can't compete with them.

If developing players and preparing them well is cheating maybe they are.

Congrats Bison but like the Packers ur time is over & a new Era is beginning Fighting Hawks Football

While Fighting Hawks FB may be on the rise (and I think Bubba has it going in the right direction), the gap is still large and not closing that fast. This is a VERY young NDSU team that just won their 5th in a row, and they are still for the most part getting the pick of the litter in FCS level talent recruits. I for one at the beginning of the year thought the streak would die at 4. Now I think they can make it at least 6.

That is the minimum salary so there is potential for higher pay. They wouldn't have set the minimum qualifications that high if they didn't know they could get someone.

Got it. I have no idea what assistants at the FCS level make, but I would have guessed it would be in the 100-125k range for coordinators and 50-75k range for position coaches.

Per millers update on Twitter and his blog, it sounds like he thought they had someone in mind for the job when he posted it. Possibly Lennon then?

That would be quite the pay cut. BTW, doesn't $42,000 sound kind of low for a full time assistant coach? I don't think there is anyway you get one with 8 years D1 experience at that pay level.

Unless Iowa blows them out, then it's KSU and Central Michigan.

I think Iowa's coaching staff is leaving to take another job after the Rose Bowl, and will take all 22 starters with them, so if NDSU does win it won't be a big deal. Any good FCS team would beat them. Remember, NDSU only schedules FBS teams that are in down cycles that they should beat.

Supported by the fact a decade later Bison fans bring it up on a UND sports forum before it's fifth straight national FCS title.

Only when UND fans cry about it not being fair that NDSU won't play in Grand Forks. I'm sorry, that NDSU is "scared" to play in Grand Forks.

NDSU's athletic dept. isn't clueless, a loss to UND would really change the way people see things in regards to football.  The odds of a UND win go down severely when the game is in the Fargodome with a playoff atmosphere.  There is a reason Gene wouldn't agree to a game in Grand Forks no matter what was thrown at him.

But I thought the Fargodome was not a hard place to play. . I heard from many SIoux fans that UND owned the Fargodome. Why play in the Alerus in front of 12,000 when they can play in their home away from home in front of 19,000?

No one except you said that, it's the reward of winning 7 games taken away because we don't have enough quality losses and it's given to a 6 win team that UND fans are pissed about. So if you want to make !@#$ up as you go along head over to the imaginary land called Bisonswille. Where you can fit right in.

Well one of your UND beat writers tweeted out when there weren't enough bowl eligible teams that a team in Grand Forks would take on anybody in the FBS. Kind of sounds like Mr. Nelson thinks UND was as good as anybody in the country.

No question - it's historic and something any fan base would relish. Too bad the ongoing posts here make it impossible to root for them even a little.

I don't think NDSU is going to have a cake walk agiainst JSU. They have proven they can be beaten(USD) if they play poorly. But people that think Jax State is going to roll through NDSU like they did against SHSU are wrong.

And I get sick of UND fans saying they were just a subbed invitation away from winning a National Championship.

Agree with SIOUXFAN97….Crappy (over rated) teams at home….where is the only place the Big Bad ASS Bison won't travel ……90 miles NORTH…..hope Jacksonville puts up 60 again in 3 weeks!!!!

Why would they travel 90 miles north when they can make 100'000's of thousands of dollars with an FBS road game or another home game? If UND would pay a 400 to 500 thousand guarantee NDSU would be happy to take it.

How much would you like to bet on Jax State putting up 60 in Frisco?

You are comparing a week 3 UND squad vs. a semifinalist Richmond team?

    Again......Richmond sucks.

Does anybody think that UND's run at the end of the season has anything to do with the crap teams they were playing?

jacksonville state will end the run of the Bison at 4.

I am not sure about that. Things snowballed on an SHSU team that was not very good in the first place and they completely quit. And their QB was horrible. The Bison will score some points (at least in the 30's) and I don't think JSU can keep up against the NDSU defense.

  21. While I won't disagree with your main point, this story was originated with a ndsu fan not a UNI fan. One of the Grizzly fans from AGS also had quite a story about how he was treated quite poorly by a handful of people he didn't know.

And I am sure there were some NDSU fans that were treated poorly in Missoula this year. Like SiouxRube said, there are Richards in all fan bases. I wish it didn't happen, but it does. I didn't hear about any major problems at the NDSU/UND FB game this year. From all reports things went rather well. But I am sure yiu could find a couple of fans that had a bad experience.

  22. none of this is true. Jacks were due to come to GF this year but Jones wanted to take a 1 year break so that cycle with NDSU and Jacks would be home/away in each season. In other words, wants each year to have an away game at sdsu and home game vs NDSU and vice versa for following years.

That was quite possibly Coach Jones best coaching move in his time at UND. SDSU would have killed UND this year. They should be more competitive with the Jacks next year. They lose two very good guards after this year. I think you can pencil in the Jacks into The Big Dance this tear.

  23. But Drake, UNI, ISU-Red, SIU, ISU-Blue, MSU, WSU, NMSU, and SHSU would in his scenario.

It really doesn't matter. This plan is a pipe dream of SV. He must stay up all night to think of these scenarios. SiouxVolley is obsessed with getting NDSU in the Big Sky. He is trying to think of any possible way that the Summit and MVFC will disolve and NDSU will have no chioce but join the BSC.
