Not buying that timeline.  Things seem to be happening fast and somewhat unpredictable.  Who would have predicted 5-6 years ago that four members of the Pac10 would be in the Big 10?  Money is making things move rapidly.  The Big 10 and SEC are running things, not the NCAA and they can make their own rules.

They have a contract with ESPN for the playoffs through 2032. There will be no G5/FCS merger before that for sure. If they expand to 24 teams (which the big boy conferences are talking about) and have a guarantee one G5 team in every year, this year according to the formula for picking the top 24 there would have been 2, there is no way the G5’s will be adding teams Willie Nillie. Much better to have your foot in the door now than taking a chance waiting.

As has been reported, in all likelihood there will be a big shakeup/split between the Big Boys and the rest of FBS in the not too distant future.  What happens to the rest of the FBS?  Does it merge with some of the FCS conferences?

If UND is not looking to go full throttle toward the FBS model following NDSU, positioning still needs to happen for the future.  What about partnering with SDSU and look west and a return to the Big Sky?  The Big Sky is losing Sacramento State and likely UC Davis in the next couple of years.  Can Cal Poly be far behind? They may need some new blood to keep things moving.  That would position us with the Montanas should there be a fracture in the FBS.

Minimum 6 years down the road. 2032 at the earliest and then why would the G6 want to expand and let anyone in with a pulse from the FCS. They would want to hold onto any of the media money and keep their G6 championship their own. No network will be clamoring for a team from Grand Forks or brookings or Normal, Illinois to get invited to a conference to sweeten a TV contract.

NDSU will be in a better place when and if that happens. And if the FCS teams want to think they will be paid to enter an FBS conference when that happens, good for them. They will be in the third tier for a long time.

didn't espn just use a und graphic last fall when talking about the ndac?

Don’t care if they did. Did they want NDSU to kick off their entire CFB season or UND? They didn’t get that wrong.

bleacher report still has a pic of Jerry world and SS on my Google feed five days later....try again.

ESPN knows the difference. NFL teams know the difference. NFL teams know where to go to look for draft picks and the next NFL players. UND is lucky to have NDSU around. They have their pro day the afternoon of NDSU's so they get a few scouts to drive up after they are at NDSU's. Otherwise they would have no scouts there. Not that they will get anyone drafted. Trust me. ESPN wanted NDSU for their opener last year. It was the most watched opener in many years. UND might, I say might, get a streaming option on the Big 10 plus for their game.

your assuming the mwc2.0 doesn't lose key members.....3,2,1

Guess you are right. They could lose their most key member, NDSU. They could very well dominate and maybe get invited to the PAC12 or another conference for football only. They may not have a large TV market, but there is a reason all of their P4 games have been on National TV. The networks love the Bison FB story.

Media contracts are different:  Sac St. is going to get paid in 2028.  NDSU is waiting till 2033.  5 year difference.  And is ESPN going to use it's media machine to pump-up it's new toy Sac St. (Top 20 media market in US) to help it with it's transition.  MWC is not ESPN.

    MAC:

    Aspect Details
Current Media Rights Holder ESPN (exclusive TV/digital rights) (ESPN Press Room U.S.)
Contract End (Expiration) After the 2026–27 academic year (summer 2027) (ESPN Press Room U.S.)
Approx. Total Annual Value to the MAC ~$8 million per year (Sports Business Journal)
Approx. Value per School/Year ~ $600,000 – $800,000 per school (Sports Business Journal)

    MWC

    Item Detail
Current/New MWC Media Deal CBS, FOX, The CW & Kiswe
    Contract Length 6 years (2026-27 through 2031-32)
    Expiration Date ~ June 30, 2032
Estimated Value per School/Year ~ $3.5 M – $4 M+ (based on recent historical distributions and league statements)

    Market:

Metric Fargo–Valley City DMA Sacramento–Stockton–Modesto DMA
Nielsen DMA Rank ~113th (USTVDB) 20th (Nexstar Media Group, Inc.)
TV Households ~270,000 (USTVDB) ~1.4–1.5 million (Nexstar Media Group, Inc.)
Population Reach Smaller, mostly rural/regional (USTVDB) Several million residents (eMedia Monitor)
Relative Advertising Market Smaller & more localized Larger & nationally significant

Are you saying the NDSU deal is worse than the Sac St deal? It appears Sac St won't even make up for the extra money they are paying to get into the Mac ($18M vs $12.5M) in the 5 years of media rights they may get. And then after that, NDSU will get 5 times more per year. Not sure what your point is.

Smith is not suppose to be the athlete on this team.(Also Smith was 3/4 from the field so he got his in limited minutes). Stopped reading after that but the rest probably isn’t correct either.

Then your coach isn’t playing the right kids. Smith should be getting 30-35 minutes a game if he is that efficient.

a3 and gray need more minutes together imo

UND is not athletic enough to create space or a shot against NDSU. Smith couldn’t even separate. And he is supposed to be the athlete on this team. The 40 year old King can’t quite keep up with Mr. Strickland.

Kick them out of the Summit. I think this shows NDSU has a back up plan. Why is UND’s and the Summits when they fall below the auto qualifier level of member schools?

    Honest question for you:

Obviously the excitement is back to your program. I know attendance has gone down recently and is a big talking point as of late. I think years 1 and 2,  and even years 3 and 4 will see a big increase once they officially become bowl eligible. Do you think the excitement will start to go back down around year 5? Or does it depend on the success they have in the new MW?

Honestly don’t know. It depends on how they do. If they turn into a Boise State of 15 to 20 years ago they may have a better chance of not getting left behind in the future if there is a split, which is now more in question. If they fall on their face excitement will back down.

Some things that are most likely true. It is going to get more expensive in the future to move up, both from the NCAA fee and conference fee. There are too many schools wanting to move (Sac St, Tarleton, UTRGV, etc), willing to pay to get an invite for it not to keep going up.

it is better to be established in the FBS sooner rather than later.

The current situation was not sustainable. Half empty dome for playoff games told us that. Hearing donation commitments from major donors are significantly larger with the move up and would not be increasing with staying at the FBS level.

I think the other FCS Dakota schools will have to follow in the next 5-10 years and it may cost them double. Plus they will be playing from behind.

I don't know if this has been answered.  Does NDSU suffer any penalties for leaving the MVFC? Losing 8 or 9 conference games has to have an impact. UND loses a lucrative home game in November.

Sam Herder tweeted (X’d) this morning there is no exit fee for the MVFC. No penalties for leaving without notice.

    not that exciting...what changed?????

Winning 10 of them in 15 years? If UND won 10 D3 hockey championships my guess is fans would probably be wanting to move to D1. I know they are D1, but I would think you would understand that.

  13. 4 minutes ago, wheelsup said:

The best part of NdSu moving up is listening to all of their fans call fcs d2 after saying it was D1 for the last 20 years

Not saying that at all. FCS titles are great. But after 10 in 15 years, they aren’t as exciting. Playing in the FBS is more exciting. D2 championships were great too. But FCS was better than D2. Not that hard to comprehend.

I know your trying to stir the pot but why would any of the regional schools travel to Fargo when P4 schools pay them much more and are better exposure?  I know you won’t answer and just run back to B’ville to report back

Never go to Bisonville. Looked at that site a few years ago and most on there are extremely delusional and way over the top.  I don’t think they should take a discount to play in Fargodome. NDSU won’t pay what P4 schools pay so if any regional FCS school has a chance at 600k or 700k payout they should take it.  I think most Bison fans are ok with not playing the regional FCS teams for a while.

I'm saying, James Madison made it in the CFP. They got smoked by Oregon. If they are FCS and make the championship game...I think that is better

Bet you JMU fans are happier about ladt year than an FCS championship, as most fans would be.

Even if they make the CFP, then lost after a game, its like "meh!"

Really? Making an FBS playoff game is less than winning an FBS national title? Kinda like saying making the Frozen Four is “meh” compared to winning a D3 title.

Time will tell with how willing they are to schedule the nearest division I university in football (FCS vs FBS, should be a cake walk for NDSU, right?) … I think anyone being honest with themselves already knows the answer to that question.

And yet here you are claiming delusions while denying this past scheduling strategy  …

I’m sure UND will be in the FCS game rotation for NDSU. Maybe once every 5 years and always in the Fargodome if you are ok with that. Maybe $200k payout since your travel expenses would be just a buds trip with no hotel expenses.

There better not be a freaking dime of state money to support this

There isn’t. But honestly, the state could fund all $17 million and still owe NDSU more for the discrepancy between the state funding for athletics between the 2 schools the last 10 years.

  19. 9 hours ago, SIOUXFAN97 said:

    total joke....

The game this year should have been in the Fargodome anyway so there’s that. You will have to find someone else to play that you can screw your fans by charging $90 for a ticket that costs $12 for any other game.

I don't think the current NFL players from NDSU make enough to even fund a small fraction of this.  I have heard it is private donations from alumni and big $$$ people in western ND.

Wentz has made $133 million, Lance $36 million, Turner $34 million, Watson $15 with another $20 million in the next two years (plus huge extension coming possibly this offseason), Zabel has nearly $20 million guaranteed and very likely will be one of the highest paid OL soon. plus a 5-10 other current players in the NFL,  Not saying they are financing any of this but saying they couldn't fund a small fraction is ridiculous.

    Ah yeah probably

If NDSU was scheduled to play everybody in the MVFC they may have done this. Since they weren't and some teams still have 8 MVFC games set, I doubt they would do that this late in the game. UND will have to make up that $900K or so in ticket revenue some how. Going from 10,000 (12K - 2K students) at $100/ticket to 8,000 at $12/ticket to see Valpo will be quite a hit to the budget.

This is Denver’s last year. St. Thomas will  follow soon. They have made it known the Summit is not their long term home. They want and will be in the Big East soon.

injust hope Fenton has the ballz to kick them out

    Why would

Fenton kick them out. The Summit doesn’t have football. Besides, that would bring the Summit down to 7 schools, so to be 6 when St. Thomas leaves.
