  1. Ahh, that's really sweet Sharon. Now, if you'll put down the bong and rose-colored glasses, you'll realize that simply retiring the name/logo will do little to bring bitter opponents together. Give it about 30-40 years or so.
  2. Not really related to the Sioux name issue, but when I read stories like this it makes me wonder why some tribal "leaders" devote more energy to school names and logos than to the needs of their members. Linky
  3. Precisely. The conduct of other schools' fans was more an issue for the name/logo foes than most of the conduct by UND fans, or the conduct of the school itself. Remember the t-shirts that showed a buffalo f***ing an Indian woman? I doubt they were designed or printed on or near UND's campus.
  4. Goetz and Co. are merely going through the motions to appease their masters at the NC$$. The tribal "leaders" are not inclined to even discuss the issue with their own people, let alone the state and UND. As such, you have no real impetus to do a deal, or even negotiate in good faith. Rather than letting this thing fester for three years, I'd rather retire the name/logo on our own terms now, and let the chips fall where they may.
  5. I agree. If other teams have this much regard for the Sioux, it could make for some interesting surprises ... for them.
  6. It's sad to think "idiocy" is now criteria for a "diverse student body".
  7. Come on Johnny. Put down that bong. Everybody knows the statue was constructed in India a few years ago, with child slave labor and that color is the natural discoloration of Nazi gold mixing with blood, sweat and tears.
  8. My sister and brother-in-law live in DC. Even though they are pretty conservative, they don't read the Times in favor of the Post primarily for its content, even if they disagree with the editorial slant.
  9. So, I suppose I should verify the story about Hillary Clinton carrying Rush Limbaugh's love child before I post it?
  10. Although it looks like the decision was made on procedural grounds, or "a technicality" for you mortals, here's some good news from the front. Strib Redskins Article
  11. *cough* Affirmative Action *cough* quotas *cough* racial/gender preferences *cough* set aside programs *cough*
  12. Here's Conrad's self-serving letter to The Wall Street Journal. I know a lot of people in banking and financial services, but I doubt I could call the CEO of Citi to get better rates/terms on my mortgage. WSJ Conrad Letter
  13. Well, we have to at least nominate Goetz for an Oscar for "Best Actor".
  14. Makes you wonder what kind of god awful beer he drinks.
  15. As long as they don't forget the screen door, I don't care what they call it.
  16. Also pay attention to China. Their markets have started to get pretty nervous the past few weeks, and they're having a difficult time containing inflation. They will also be focused on trying to rebuild or relocate areas devestated by the earth quakes. If they start having macro problems it could drop pricing for oil and other commodities quite a bit in a very short period of time.
  17. Especially if his old man was singing "Sweet Child of Mine".
  18. No, the pagentry surrounding his name being announced at the draft, and him appearing out of a tunnel. Probably the only thing missing was a laser light show, smoke machines and some sorry-ass Guns n' Roses tune blaring in the background.
  19. And now the twenty-somethings no longer have to keep an eye open for the man in the Zubaz and Van Halen "1984" concert t-shirt.
  20. I love this guy. Strib Warning: Not for the thin-skinned.
  21. This is also true in some tobacco growing states like Kentucky. When Minneapolis' smoking ban went into effect, I didn't hear of any bars closing because of it, and many went out of their way to accommodate their smoking clientle.
  22. Here's another article on NoDak's oil industry, with particular emphasis on the Bakken. Some may be re-hashed info, but it made good reading. Bloomberg
  23. Which is why I again question the integrity of his parents and/or "advisors". Anyway, the QMJHL can deal with his showboating.
