  1. Do you ever get dizzy from all of your spin?
  2. Perhaps Dave and Jesse were separated at birth ... which may explain their respective antipathy towards UND.
  3. Comparing a dispute over a university's moniker with slavery? Do you ever put down that bong? However, I do give you credit for not comparing it to the Holocaust ... yet.
  4. Some potential fallout from the Jablonski injury. http://www.startribune.com/sports/preps/136808583.html
  5. It would also imply that the vast majority of UND alums, including the President of the Alumni Association, have somehow been turned into a anti-moniker "fifth column" by the NC$$ and the Ron His Horse is Thunder and Russell Means of the world. I wasn't happy when Kendal Baker unilaterally tried to drop the name during a summer session in 1990 or 91, and I wasn't happy when the NC$$ trotted out the H&A list, but I knew that UND was going to eventually lose the Sioux moniker in 2007 when the settlement surrender was filed in Judge Jahnke's court. If not now, then when SR and/or SL would have withdrawn their consent after a change in tribal leadership. It sucks, and it hurts, on a number of levels, but it's the landscape UND faces today, and it's our job to ensure that UND remains a successful institution, on and off the field, court and/or rink.
  6. I haven't lived in NoDak for years, but my recollection is that the winners on initiatives were usually those that had the money and organization to effectively press their case with the voters. These guys don't really impress me so much, especially since those pushing the drive are also litigating the matter. Perhaps if these people hadn't wasted so much time and energy, and blew so much smoke, after the fight was really over, the result might not be the same. Instead, they now resort to petition drives, conspriracy theories and the graspsing of straws ... meanwhile, nary a word from those who could actually stare down the NC$$ ... What really sucks is that UND, the alumni association and others who see the pitiful reality of the situation may be forced to effectively disown the Sioux nickname in a very public fashion and take on the mantle of nickname opponents.

  9. You'll have to remember that Dave only cheers for team names. He doesn't give a damn about the teams themselves, or the institutions they represent.

It kind of reminds me of an old gas station logo, or a cafe sign. Hopefully, this is just an "interim" solution until they get a better design.
  11. Because ... "they're in it with the aliens! They're building landing strips for gay Martians!" (/props to The Dead Milkmen) The "conspiracy" runs deeper than just the Sioux nickname ...
  12. Personally, I think it has something to do with the Mayan calendar and the pending end of the world. But I'm sure you'll submit your own hypothesis in the next vomit from Say Anything.
  13. Why do you care now? UND has basically dropped the name from any official status, and I doubt it will ever return. Don't you have other team names to cheer for? I've heard Moorhead High has a "cool" name
  14. Nice video of Toews owning Jimmy Howard on a penalty shot. http://video.blackhawks.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=1231&id=146029
  15. I'm surprised the role of being "Alvarez's Biatch" is a requirement for the job of running a new hockey conference.
  16. Be thankful you don't live in Minnesota ...
  17. Even if you dropped all sports except M/W hockey, UND might still have Title IX issues. So it may have to keep a few outlier sports around ... like Women's Beach Volleyball or Jello Wrestling to avoid trouble with the feds.
  18. I was back in Fargo about 4-5 years ago and recall being astonished by the number of apt rental ads in the Sunday paper and the rents for "luxury" apartments was really low compared to other places. It seems the oversupply makes it cheaper to rent than to buy in most cases. Pretty symptomatic, in my view, of poor urban planning, and not a very good way to develop over time. I agree people moving into the state is a good for the state overall. However, I think the politicos in Bismarck really need to develop a long-term plan for sustainable growth, and growth that is less dependent on cyclical industries, e.g., oil.
  19. It's actually typical development for midwestern cities, and elsewhere, where they straddle interstates or other major highways. A lot of space, relatively cheap land and labor to slap those babies up and rent/sell 'em out. Fortunately it's not as bad as the DFW metroplex ...
  20. You, Felch and a few others around here are caught in your reality distortion field. My view of the world is pretty damn clear, and stark. What I really love about these idiots grasping at straws to "save" the Sioux nickname with their baseless litigation and petition drives, is that they will effectively force UND and the Board to publicly disavow the name and to fight any attempt to hang it around the school's neck. It should be great fun having UND tell the people of North Dakota "we don't want Sioux nickname, because we still want to play D1 sports on an even playing field." The SL saw this fight going on years ago and did nothing. Now, when the fight is basically over, they want to "help" even if UND bears the brunt of NC$$ sanctions as have been discussed ad nauseum. Very Machiavellian of the SL folks ... "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."- Israeli proverb
  21. Sounds like "Say Anything" is acting as Clueless Al's mouth piece. Trying again to use the Sioux nickname as a pawn for a political end-around. Perhaps Kelley, the NC$$, the BSC, the Board, the Alumni Association, etc. are just all involved in some grand conspiracy, in violation of "God's will" ...
  22. It's Tim O'Keefe, and if you've read the last Alumni Review you'd know exactly what he thinks about this mess. (Hint: the Sioux nickname isn't bigger than the school)
  23. And some of the downsides of new found wealth ... http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/28/us/in-north-dakota-a-great-divide-over-oil-riches.html?ref=us&pagewanted=all
  24. "[A]mazing legal precedents" ... really? As far as I know, SL hasn't sued the BSC or UND, so enforcing any sort of judgment may be difficult. Nor is the BSC a court so as to issue a "legal precedent", amazing or abysmal. SL's fight with the NC$$ is iffy enough, so don't muckrake anything else on to their plate.
  25. I'm long past worrying about my "crediblity" on internet forums. If you're so certain about "wrongdoing" by any of these parties, why don't you and "Hannibal" file a private right of action, or see if North Dakota has a "private attorney general" statute? I doubt Stenjhem will do anything to enforce the Open Records statute, assuming there's a violation, so there's your opening.
