Maybe Chaps & Co. can get them to join the Great Waste Conference. The issue isn't about "duplication" so much as the profound fear of competition that Smokin' Joe and "The Economist" exhibit. If 'SU were truly filling the needs of its local market, UND probably wouldn't bother expanding there. Then again, UND probably wouldn't waste its money on building a "Downtown Campus" 10 minutes from its main campus. Moreover, SOTAs are a major segment of the educational market for evening and part-time classes, especially as people move into different careers. If 'SU cannot or will not meet that need, they deserve every shot they take. BTW: Did UND not receive a nice fat tract of land off I-29 last year?

I agree the both Parise and Money really haven't stood out from the crowd, especially as the season wound down. Moreover, the only WCHA player who really stands out, IMO, is Lessard, but not by much. He would help his case if Scotty Sandelin can get his team to Boston. There are alot of very solid players this year, but few who really are well ahead of the pack, especially on a consistent basis. I think this attests to the overall quality of the league, less than any digs at Money, Parise, Vanek, et al.

Instead of getting rid of Bomber and Zholtov, they should get rid of Gaborik for some experienced players who can show up each night. Marian's been a no-show since he returned from his sit-out tantrum last fall. Moreover, the Wild should probably look for players who can play Lemaire's "offense". Gaborik, Park and Dupuis are not geared to play neutral zone trap, snooze and hope not to lose, schemes. Minnesota Wild: It's not hockey, it's a marketing concept.

I ripped this off from the Forum. Nice win for the team. Keep up the hard work and let's get to the Fleet.

We just like to talk about our poor, retarded cousins.

I have no problems with coaches pointing out problems in their team's game, or directly pointing at certain players for not stepping up in a public forum. I'd be more worried if coaches ignored weaknesses or glossed them over, and failed to address them. IMO that is what sets guys like Lucia and Blais apart from Dahl, etc. I'd wager whatever these coaches do in public pales in comparison to what they do in their office or in practice to "coach" their players and teams.

On a related note, the Devils were just bought by a NY investment banker, who plans on keeping current management. As well, he's also lobbying for a new barn in scenic DT Newark ... well, with substantial state and local monies to foot the deal. Presumably, Parise will remain a Devil in the future, unless he's been to Newark ... and then he'll probably demand a trade to Columbus.

Nice for Jimmy. Now he can expect the Alumni Association to be "nice" to him ... On a related note, it appears the Queens are seriously shopping Moss. Right now to Miami. BTW: McFeely is an idiot. His past columns indicate a complete ignorance of sports, and possible paint huffing.

Please don't use this info for disrupting home ice

I'll never forget the time I got Brian Gionta and Scott Clemmenson to check to see if "Amanda Hugginkiss" was in the hotel bar the night before the 2000 Final ... Good times. -
GIS for "perm" Looks a bit like Tallackson ...

Greentree committed to UAF last year, I believe ... then again, I'm really too lazy to look.

Could they just refer to the area as "The Stench of the North", and be honest about it?

There are "rumors" around MSP that St. Thomas is being courted to join the NCC and go to D2, and possibly D1 in hockey. The school's growth has been huge, on both sides of the river, and there is an undercurrent of support for "bigger things" in athletics as well. As well, it's probably one of the best fundraisers around, so money probably wouldn't be much of an issue if they do move up.

On the plus side for Stream Yellow fans, at least they get run up their frequent flyer miles. This presumes that other conference members are located near regularly scheduled air service, or FedEx.

If my girlfriend gets back from London on Friday as scheduled, I may have to "catch the game" Saturday morning ...

Brad is also a very nice guy and a real leader for the Wild. When he was on campus, he had a liking for Rye-cokes as I recall.

I've always believed that NoDak's economic centers Fargo, GF, Bismarck and Minot, would grow as they tend to be magnets of economic and educational activity in their region. People move there for jobs of varying levels, and some economic development naturally follows as employers look for additional labor. Throw in NoDak's propensity to pay s**t wages relative to surrounding states, and you have the WalMarting of the labor force that stays behind. For every person who moves to Fargo or Bismarck for a job, I'd bet 2-3 move out of state. All of the de minimis "tax incentives", bingo parlor and call center jobs in the world are not going to staunch that flow any time soon, especially when it comes to professional and technical people that NoDak needs to stay competitive at any level. Most people who do leave can do without the standard "QOL" and "COL" arguments if they can make 40-60% more elsewhere, or find similar QOL and COL in competing midwestern states that are willing to pay more for high-end talent. Actually, Sicatoka, I would say that NoDak isn't a bond investor as most bonds have risk built into their pricing, so much as the person who keeps their money buried in a coffee can in the back yard, along with their head.

It simply amazes me that NoDak cannot, or will not, compete with the likes of Iowa, SoDak, Nebraska, etc. Then again, most of the state politicos seem more intent on holding onto remnants of the past, e.g., Cold War air bases, agriculture, etc., than developing a more diversified and higher-margin economic base. I always thought, for example, if they closed GFAFB that it would be nice transit point for international shipping into/out of Canada, as well as for freight carriers like USP and FedEx on their Asian/Russian routes. Can't argue with the disparity in salaries either. However, I am looking at a job in another midwestern state in football/boucyball country that would put me into a city of about 220000, but it would pay me about 45% *more* than MSP. If I went back to NoDak I could expect my comp to be shaved by at least that much.

Let's see ... DECC is a publicly funded arena. DECC officials and the police let one group express themselves under the First Amendment, but prohibit another group for doing the same thing, and may expel those opposing fans under color of law. 1983 ... Hmmm ... Which brings me to another point, given the relative small size of the DECC rink and the concourse, why does it take those retarded fatasses so long to complete a lap? Do they stop for a beer and a smoke?

Personally, I'd feel sorry for Zach if he did end up with the Caps. Not very deep on the talent end, on and off the ice, and an owner who takes the Rangers' approach and signs players in the twilight of their careers. If the happens, he'd be better off going MJ for a season then coming in as a free-agent, whenever the work stoppage ends.

It's far easier to remove somebody from a privately-owned facility, such as REA, than a publicly-owned facility such as Alerus. Public facilities are generally considered "forums" for speech, opinion, etc., no matter whether profanity is involved or not. Contrary to what some dimwits think, after reading the Stupid's opinion pages, the same First Amendment rights do not apply to REA, especially if they expressly limit speech, conduct, etc. Your tickets probably explain your rights and obligations, and you have a "license" to be there, not a "Right" under law. Likewise, in some private facilities, it entirely appropriate to yell "Take it off!" at some woman, whereas it is not appropriate in other private facilities, such as the Guthrie Theatre.

If would remember that he doesn't want fries with his order, you'll probably be better off. Just tryin' to help.

Did the students start chanting, "Sweeney. Sweeney. Sweeney. SUCKS!"?

Yeah, I know Sid couldn't tell a puck from a donut, even by taste. But I thought it was a pretty stupid line, especially after Lucia and the team's comments about the series. This coming from the same guy who's mentioned Lucia's recruiting north of the border in a positive light ...
