  1. I was going to raise a similar issue, especially with regard the recent proliferation of HS hockey threads, which usually cater to the same crew of Clearasil addicts. I have nothing against people who discuss HS hockey, but I fail to see much use for it here.
  2. Call to broker: "Sell my shares in McDonalds and Krispy Kreme!" I don't feel sorry for this clown. He had a wealth of talent and squandered it. Hill took a risk in giving Fatass a second chance, and he got burned for it. I feel more for Hill, who seems like a class act, than some spoiled, underachieving brat. If Chrissy thinks college was "tough" wait until somebody in the WHL or ECHL lays him out at center ice.
  3. Not as much as Chaps & Co., or the Fraud's editors, who hope and pray that they don't look like the biggest fools on the northern plains. Again. Wonder if they've factored in increasing fuel prices into their travel "budgets"? Then again, in "Stream Yellow-ville" monetary issues are brushed aside in favor of fancies of playing Minnesota in the MetroDump, filling the FloodDome's seats with scarecrows and determining if nanotech can really co-exist with a flight path ...
  4. I used to love going to Madison as a student, since we would have such a good time, we'd forget to go the games. For hockey lore, few places can compare to Mariucci. The Wall (mural) is something that still gives me chills. Of course, going to Stub's was always an attraction too.
  5. I agree entirely with skateshattrick. I think those who presume that if we dissenters do not blindly support the process, we also do not support the Sioux hockey program, are engaging in political gamesmanship, much like questioning one's "patriotism" if they criticize the President. I think the selection process was flawed in view of the fact that a "national search" is now underway to replace the women's soccer coach, and I really doubt RT looked outside of the 58201 area to fill Blais' slot. However, I wish Hakstol the best of luck, and hope he maintains and expands on Blais' legacy. That said, anybody who doesn't think Hakstol has a very short time frame to prove himself is delusional. RT has a vested interest in giving Hakstol a longer leash, as he's the one who pulled the trigger. The rest of the fans, alums and boosters probably won't be so forgiving given the state of the program Blais left behind.
  6. I have to agree that the move will be good for Travis if he works hard to crack the lineup. Lemaire's "bore 'em till they lose" system is okay for younger clubs, but as they mature and bring in better players the Wild may have to rethink their system. Now, if Heatley can stay out of jail ...

    GFAFB

WTF? 1000 people have that much impact? I'd love to see their methodology, especially when the GF whine crew asserts that GFAFB has about $175M impact on the local economy. Frankly, if either military base was closed, it might force the leadership to face economic reality, for once.

    GFAFB

1994: SAC left GFAFB for good. 1995: GFAFB was slotted for realignment. Link All the while throughout the 80s-90s, when it became apparent GFAFB was becoming a relic, there were proposals to convert the base, "just in case". This would explain the plaintive whining then, and now, from the Mayor's office, John Marshall, Hal Gershman, etc., and their trips to DC. Jobs and the local economy were/are at the top of the agenda. However, nobody really wants to plan for the "unthinkable". The politics that go into base closings should not be underestimated, as the "non partisan" nature of the process is often hijacked by politicos on both sides of the aisle. Moreover, closed bases are routinely turned over to local/state govts for development, as the Presidio and Fort Ord in California were.

    GFAFB

When the base was threatened with closure in the 80s-90s, there was talk of turning the place into a freight-forwarding and distribution point, given its location on the air routes between the US and Asia, proximity to Canada, rail lines and location to major highways. FedEx or UPS, as well as some major freight cos were said to be interested in using the place in a major role. However, the farsighted visionaries in local and North Dakota govt poo-pooed the idea as "too risky", and took their chances with the US govt as the cold war died down. Lost the missiles and lost the bombers, and damn near lost the tankers. Meanwhile, Mpls, Louisville and a few other cities gained hundreds of well-paying jobs as the carriers shifted their plans, not to mention the halo effect for other companies and industries looking for ready access to transport. I'd rather decisions like this be made strictly on national security grounds, rather than on the whines of the local apartment, bar and pawn shop owners.
  10. I'd rather not waste any "NC tourney" time on teams we normally see 1-2 times a season. If we're going for a decent tourney, bring in non-WCHA teams who might be worth a shiat. Either that, or offer the team up for other schools' tourneys and make some money off the deal.
  11. Hey, when I become head coach at Notre Dame, if Lucia doesn't want to be my "tape manager", I'll give you a call.
  12. The sun just rose in the west ... I finally agree with something Kolpack wrote. This whole "process" has been a farce. Hakstol starts out with no room for error. If he f**ks up this program, he's gone in short order, and he can take RT and the in-laws with him. Hakstol may be annointed "head coach", but he has to prove he was the best person for the job, let alone that he can fill Blais' skates.
  13. ... citing an "anonymous source", or the voices in his head.
  14. I think "deeks pizza" is really Doreen Yellowbird in drag. Anyway, the fact that Pat was able to get direct quote from Thomas on the search, such as it is, beats an "anonymous" source any day of the week. Moreove, I think it's telling that Thomas acknowledges the "rumblings" of alums and boosters who favor a wider search, as well as that he's already talked to others interested in the job. Even if Hakstol gets the job at the end, a position of this caliber should not be some "rubber stamp" affair. Hell, even Harvard looked at other candidates before filling their slot.
  15. Just when the streets of Duluth were about to be clear of doo-doo for the first time in over a week ...
  16. Jim Archibald, Scott Dub, Dave Christian, Cary Eades (was also my pick to succeed Gino), Jeff Panzer.
  17. And what fun would that be?
  18. The only formal requirement is that if you get caught in public naked below the waist, you might get arrested, especially in winter. That said, since how you dress tends to reflect on you as a person, dress how you feel comfortable. Midwestern and west coast students tend to be more casual about their everyday clothing choices. My experience on campus in the south such as UVA, Emory, Texas and Vanderbilt, shows that many students do dress better than their midwestern counterparts, so Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, etc. brands are pretty common.
  19. Yeah, and if you put down the Prestone long enough the read the rest of Sid's delusions, Maturi also indicated the need to improve the NC schedule. Playing 'SU wouldn't be any better for them than playing one of the hyphenated Louisana schools that barely fill 1/3 of the Dome. Besides UND used to play Minnesota in FB in the 70s and early 80s I believe.
  20. If you really "bleed green" then you would expect more from the hiring process than expedient nepotism. I expect excellence across the board, not meely mouthed excuses about "summer recruiting" or "he was Blais' assistant". Accordingly, your boy should be able to pick up where Blais left off and take the team to Columbus. But we don't want to pressure him too much, otherwise he might come unglued and upset his dad-in-law, or the wife. Lighten up? Sure, right when you remove your head from O'Keefe's ass.
  21. This is a national program, that brings the university national/international attention. This position is not some $9.35/hr position in the library to answer phones and "Shsssh" people. To effectively give the position to Hakstol without even giving other potential candidates a look does a disservice to the program, the university and to Hakstol. Even if he were the eventual winner over Sandelin, Johnson, Berensen or whomever, he has the shadow of favortism over him. Moreover, he has no room for error, and no time to implement "his" program since he's taking over for Blais. He's stepping right into Blais' program and he had better not f**k it up. Anything less than a McNaughton Cup should be viewed as a failure, and that should be in his deal.
  22. Disgusting. Does Hakstol have dirty pics of RT? Did his father-in-law "give" the job to Hakstol. Anything less than a McNaughton Cup should be grounds for immediate termination for the whole bunch, from Kupchella on down.
  23. Yeah, standing behind the bench for Back-to-Back Titles is pretty shameful compared to a stellar career coaching a USHL team. Then again, Guentzel isn't related to half of the staff at the alumni center.
  24. Guentzel at Minnesota, Dave?
