  1. So if the WAC can indefinitely exist as an FBS conference, can other defunct DI conferences do the same?
  2. From what I understand the break with the All Seasons Arena happened over concession sales. As stupid as that sounds, it's typical small-minded Minot politics.
  3. Nope. At the Maysa. I'm not a 'hockey guy' so hardcore fans probably don't mind watching games at the Maysa, but the current arena is not a great place to watch games. It's basically a set a of metal bleachers running along the boards on one side. I don't know if there's a seat in the place where you have a decent view of the entire ice. I've been told the new sheet will be more of a true arena with better sight lines, but we'll see.
  4. There hasn't been a hockey game played at the All Seasons in years. Maysa's getting a new sheet of ice that will be used as the main arena. Tauros, Minot State, and Minot High will all use that sheet for games.
  5. Counting indoor and outdoor track and field as two separate sports, the minimum is 16. NDSU is currently at the minimum, and thus can't cut any sports. Not sure about the other schools mentioned.
  6. This is the correct answer, and why these schools will never be closed. We could have a pretty good higher education system by closing two of the normal schools and probably one or two of the two-year colleges.
  7. The second part of this is not true. They did have winter short courses farmers could attend in the very early years of the 20th century, but the primary purpose of land grant universities was not to train farmers.
  8. I would love for you to educate me about the good old days when NDAC was a two year university.
  9. I just want to second this. It's very "junior-highish" over there at times, with their little cliques.
  10. Kind of what I was thinking. My son's doing club wrestling. He's practiced three nights a week and wrestled in 3 tournaments over the last month. Total cost so far is $39 for registration fees combined. No overnight stays and I've probably spent about $100 total in gas and food. No dues and i get the $50 deposit back for the singlet.
  11. Hank Jr. would be awesome.
  12. "On Bison" is the school's fight song, not "The Yellow and the Green". And for what it's worth, i don't even know the first few lyrics of the latter, much less the third verse.
  13. Sadly, this is more plausible than Sic's interpretation of events.
  14. I'm glad you can finally admit you were wrong.
  15. Ruley resigned from her coaching duties of her own accord. Both of these women left NDSU AFTER Taylor left. So maybe Taylor was fostering a great environment for women in the workplace. He'll probably engineer something similar at Iowa to turn that mess around.
  16. The first part of this is true. She was not a good administrator. If anything, being a woman is the only thing that kept her employed as long as she was.
  17. That's awesome. You've failed to address your previous statements. You've been caught in a lie and you know it. In the Iowa case, the field hockey coach was fired and the womens' AD reassigned BEFORE Gene Taylor got there. In Lynn Dorn's case, she retired AFTER Gene Taylor left. And Ruley worked with Taylor as an employee of NDSU for at least 8 years before she left voluntarily. Yes, quite the history of misogyny there.
  18. Although I disagree with that statement, at least you're man enough to come out and say it unlike Sic, who thinks he looks intelligent by speaking in platitudes.
  19. So Gene Taylor was hired at NDSU in 2001, hid his homophobic tendencies for six years and then decided to fire Ruley (oh wait, you lied about that; she resigned and got a job in the same athletic department that Gene Taylor oversaw). And then realizing he hadn't done enough to perpetuate his misogynist attitudes also had Lynn Dorn reassigned (oops, lied about that too, she was womens' AD when Taylor was hired and continued in that role until her retirement). But probably the greatest feat of all was firing the Iowa women's field hockey coach before he started working there. That, my friends, is power. Yep, quite the coincidence.
  20. I getting tired of reading between the lines on your posts. So I'm just going to say it. You think Lynn Dorn and Amy Ruley are lesbians and partners; you also think Gene Taylor is a homphobe, had Amy Ruley fired and Lynn Dorn demoted because of their homosexuality?
  21. Definitely agree with you, but I just think the committee will fall in love with him, and it's a move that will 'look good' in the eyes of the legislature and Board of Higher Education. Native North Dakotan, completed all of his schooling in North Dakota, and has a decent (not great) CV.
  22. My wife works at MSU. Shirley's a rock star there, very well liked. I'd say the chances he's your guys' next president is about 30%, so I'd take the field if I was a betting man, but if I had to pick one candidate amongst the group it would be him.
