Short version... there were some problems in the past with passwords or usernames that contain non-alphabetic/non-numeric characters. I'll get in touch with each of you by PM to investigate further. Long version (more technical)... leveraging the forum login required me to try to duplicate its password handling. It does some odd encoding that required me to put in some patches to deal with a few common punctuation marks in usernames (! and > come to mind). At the beginning of this week I tried to replace that code with the exact code from the forum software, which should have actually made all such problems go away (and did solve the problems for the specific users I was testing with), but certainly could have introduced some other problems. I'll review the code myself, and get in touch with the affected people.

That's actually one of the biggest reasons I started paying attention to the KRACH predictions, because it's an interesting comparison for measuring bias. In this case, UND fans REALLY like UMD. KRACH only gives you a 30% chance of emerging from the region. Another interesting one, because it goes the other way on a WCHA team, is KRACH giving BC vs. CC 69%-31% odds, while we picked it 88-12. Sioux fans seem to over-respect UMD, BC, and UND; and under-respect Yale, Union, UNH, Michigan, Denver, and CC. No real shocks there, though it also wouldn't have been shocking if BC had gone the other way. Wishful thinking, I guess

They threaten damages of hundreds of thousands of dollars and seizure of the domain name. If you, as a targeted site owner, do nothing then the default judgment kicks in. So, you have to either spend whatever it takes to fight them in Nevada courts, or settle out of court (settlements rumored to be offered in the $3000 range). Yes, please, stay out. However, feeling good about this year myself, let me pull out an old tradition started by AZSIOUX and sweeten the pot a little bit. In this, likely the last year as the Fighting Sioux, I'll give $50 gift card to the official SiouxShop for stocking up on Fighting Sioux gear to whoever wins the performance scoring (ties will be broken by random draw). We've never had a tie, but that's because the Sioux haven't won in the 8 years I've had this going. I suspect if UND wins it all we'll see something like a 50-way tie for first.

I think during the show he said he had watched two Yale games this year, and named them. He was pretty critical of Yale, saying that they got where they are on hot goaltending, and that can really fail you come tournament time when you face an unknown/strong team that's going to pepper him with shots.

2011 Bracket Every year the NCAA changes how the regions matchup, so ever since messing it up once a few years back I'm kind of paranoid. Yeah, I'm not positive of the reasoning, but am happy to give my impressions. As I said here, a little inconsistency is part of the tax we pay for having multiple moderators. I still think it's well worth it. The Lucia thread is still at least 50% about the topic (see the discussions of Hill) right up until the end, AND there was moderator intervention (see the post asking people to move back on topic). I think that thread has been handled just about right. The two threads are actually pretty similar in content, so my guess is the "Gophers Chokers" thread shot itself in the foot for being a cheap shot ("chokers" in the title, "goofers" in the subtitle). We've definitely stopped threads in the past just for being classless (e.g. "the official rip on <player> thread"), even when the topics of discussion are legitimate and occurring elsewhere. We do try to moderate a little civility, and the thread titles do reflect back the forum and its membership.
