I agree, assuming today's RPI, we can get two wins vs. TUCs and Yale one loss. That brings us to .75 vs .7432, leaving TUC and the overall comparison with Yale. However, the TUC cliff could make all the difference. I'm not sure how fargosioux's scenario plays out, but Quinnipiac could be key in another way, too. It look like 2 losses drops Quinnipiac below .500 in RPI (all other things equal), thus becoming a non-TUC, thus taking away 2 TUC wins from Yale. That, plus some favorable tournament outcomes, could give the TUC criterion and the overall comparison to UND. Cornell is another possibility for dropping out of TUCness with a tournament loss to Colgate. Of course, UND has its own TUC-cliff issues. AA would drop below .500 RPI if swept, as would Bemidji St. Robert Morris would drop below .500 RPI if it lost the opening game. So, the odds still definitely favor Yale in the individual comparison. Less likely, but also possible -- UND could also pass Yale, while losing the comparison, if Yale lost two other comparisons (assuming, as most people think, that the tie-breaker is the comparison instead of RPI; otherwise, Yale losing one would be enough). Union could easily take the comparison w/Yale -- their COPs are identical and each will face COPs in the tournament, and an H2H is quite possible. Since Yale has such a strong RPI, it's tough to find another because any team other than UND would really need to flip two criteria.

Good question. The original gameday chat question from five years ago has been covered pretty well by cover-it-live. That has its pros and cons -- the pretty minor con is that it's really more "live blogging" than pure chat room (by design, the Herald and UND guys are kind of the hosts, and everyone else guests), the biggest pro is that it's a social medium in which you can interact with the Herald and UND athletics information people (though since they now venture out into unmoderated social media like twitter, it sure would be nice if they started interacting instead of just lurking and reading here -- the largest dedicated social media specifically dedicated to UND athletics -- but I digress...) However, chat or a shoutbox for other times, and to improve interaction with other fans is a good idea. I've been very interested in and done some work (some of it not yet seen) on integrating other social media into the site, but adding some of those capabilities to the site itself and seeing what takes catches on is worth looking into.

Seriously, both of you, stop.

2-2 end of regulation. Headed to OT. Ugh.

Post-game press conference notes - Timothy Boger Follow the link to read the whole thing. Excerpt follows:

And UND takes the lead in RPI. UND now leads every major ranking or poll... except the only one that counts, PWR.
-
Ok, try this. On the the rep number for each post, you should be able to click and see who repped that post. Enjoy.

I wasted most of my PWR-earmarked free time this week on Minnesota and Wisconsin, but did run the numbers for UND. It's not interesting, in that UND is pretty unlikely to move. But, it's pretty cool in that I've never seen it so not matter whether we sweep or tie (note that coming out #4 is just slightly more likely with a tie than a sweep). If Yale got swept, there would be over a 75% chance of them dropping. A win over Cornell (regardless of Colgate outcome) seems to guarantee they stay #1, while a win over Colgate gives them something like a 95% chance of staying #1.
-
Siouxweet is exactly right. To find out yourself in the future, the "future RPI" chart in the upper right of this page is what would happen to UND's unadjusted RPI if UND's remaining 4 games were the only ones played: UND RPI details There are two ways those numbers could be a little off: 1) assuming our RPI stays high enough (i.e. don't lose to Bemidji St), the wins over MTech will likely be thrown out, resulting in an adjusted RPI that's slightly higher than the adjusted RPI; 2) our past and future opponents will play games, and their performance will tweak the SOS portion a little bit.
-
If you haven't seen it yet, there were a few answers when a similar question was asked here... how hard will it be to find tickets for just the championship game My answer for the whole series is a little different than my answer there. If you're on the ball, it's almost always possible to grab Frozen Four tickets right as teams get eliminated in the opening round. Lots of fans buy every year to keep their priority but only intend to go if their team makes it.
-
Ok, just trying to figure out this women's tournament stuff (frankly, it's never come up before!) I see that the RPI ratios for women's more favor the team's performance than SOS [thumb's up] and that there are at most 12 TUCs (if any TUC is <.500, they're dropped, seemingly without replacement). You say it's an 8 team tournament, what's the format? I assume it's a final four in a pre-determined spot, so there must be one opening game? Is that on-campus or pre-determined?

Sorry I've been slow to respond, I've been trying to look into the functionality of this feature and potential improvements. The background is this: The current system lets you rep posts (a pretty cool thing that I want to expand, e.g. a "best rep posts" sidebar). But, those reps also contribute back to the overall reputation of the individual. I can see how they thought that was a good idea, but I think it unnecessarily muddles post rep and individual rep and it's ripe for abuse. As Sprig mentioned, someone with a grudge can (and did) actively seek out all of their enemy's posts and neg rep them. That's no big deal for the posts, because each person can only rep each post once. However, those neg reps do contribute to the individual's rep, and quickly lead to a massive negative rep, all caused by a single individual. There are lots of obvious logical ways to fix that problem, but the software just isn't very mature or flexible in those areas, so I've limited rep to one per day until we can do something better.

Funny timing, UND's own PWR situation is so boring that I just wrote a blog post on UW's this morning -- Minnesota and Wisconsin tournament watch I initially only focused on this weekend, but just added a chart for all four remaining regular season games. Looks like UW really needs to win 3 to stay in a holding pattern, while sweeping would put them in the driver's seat. From the former position, a strong showing in the play-in round and tournament would probably be required to climb. From the latter, a respectable play-in and early exit would likely suffice. That will all become much more certain once the matchups are determined.

Yours is easier... yes. I cross-check all registrations, mostly for obvious violations of either of these rules:

It's been tough learning new moves for Sicatoka, who's really a child of the 80s. Here he is back in the 80s waiting for his buddy... Here he is in full performance costume. He busts out the moves around 1:00.

Yep, tons of tickets. The only question is price. When Wisconsin was still alive in Milwaukee, they were going for well over face. Columbus, St. Louis, Denver were all cheap. If Minnesota makes it, it will be pricey. If any regional WCHA schools make it, they won't be cheap. If not, people will be giving them away (Minnesotans just don't show up for these things, when the Final Four was there tickets were like $20 on the street).

They're just saying what the public wants to hear. Look how unhappy the people in this thread and others are about UND not supporting the proposed legislation -- a lot of constituents want UND to do everything possible to try to save the name. For REA to talk about removing a single logo at this time would just rile people up but with no immediate benefit. Assuming the logo/nickname go away as expected, once they've been retired for a while it will be easy for REA to start transitioning to the new nickname/logo without drawing any public ire. When the time is right they'll be able to announce that they're bringing in UND's new branding to support the teams and student athletes while keeping historic Fighting Sioux displays and structural logos to honor the program's rich tradition and history.
