  1. Stop with the tired Ralph was a Nazi troll, stop with the crude slang, and stop with the partisan politics. All are unwelcome on this forum. Edit -- discussion of forum rules and policies is welcome in the appropriate forum (the SiouxSports.com Administration forum) but not here.
  2. My first stab of the 2011-12 season: A first look at the PairWise Rankings and UND’s tournament possibilities The men have a high, though not insurmountable, hurdle ahead of them.
  3. Final game plan has Kleinsasser's number on it Hopefully no one on the Bears' staff reads the STrib...
  4. Though I didn't receive the rumored request letter myself (the first time being conspicously excluded from the media email list has tangibly benefitted me!), to respect the spirit of UND's request I did change the "official" logo (used in box scores, standings, etc...) to the interlocking ND tonight. http://siouxsports.c...ckey/standings/ I suppose we'll get used to it.
  5. Yep, that was my "gotcha" at the end. This is great short-term news, but it's up to N.D. not to rest on its laurels but instead to use this opportunity to create sustainable growth. When the rest of the U.S. recovers, when oil declines, when everyone who is going to move from small N.D. towns to N.D. cities has done so, the state needs to have other opportunities in place. It's a lot easier to create that sort of development in a growth environment, as long as they don't become complacent and assume that current growth is self-sustaining.
  6. Yeah, the days of thinking of G.F. and Fargo as similarly sized have passed. While those who view it as a zero-sum game (or who will be annoyed by the increase in bleating from a few haughty Fargoans) will think that's bad news, Fargo's growth is good news for ND, and therefore UND. In particular, note that it's no longer just a migration from rural to city, but that the state population overall also grew 4.7%. The long-run trend for N.D. is that of a declining state, so any signs of population stabilization or growth are welcome news. Of course, the devil is in the details -- the article notes an aging population and an ongoing decline in the number of children. It's also not clear how ND will fare in an economic recovery, if people can again get jobs easily in places where it doesn't reach -40F. Since ND can't change its weather, all it can do is continue to maximize this opportunity by continuing to establish a solid base of good, diverse employment opportunities and making ND a place people like to stay.
  7. I don't know quite when it happened (haven't been to fightingsioux.com undsports.com in over a week), but it's now official -- the Indian head logo is gone. Now the masthead is just the Notre Dame-style logo. A few references to "Sioux" remain on the page, but I suppose they'll clean those up soon enough (though I suppose they'll have to wait for organizations like Sioux Crew and Sioux Kids Club to factually change their names to get them all).
  8. Yep, photobucket would work. That's a service similar to those that I listed in the 1st paragraph. You just need to get its URL (try to get the photo on a page of its own, either by clicking on it or by right-clicking and choosing "view image", then just copy that address from the url bar, it probably ends in .jpg), hit the little button that looks like a photo (on the 2nd row between the little button that looks like a chain link and the <> symbols), and paste the URL into the popup box that comes up. You can also do it without the button by just typing [ img ] URL here [ /img ] (though without the spaces inside the brackets).
  9. Yeah, the "my media" is if you're trying to upload a photo to a thread. We generally don't actually allow uploads of photos to the forums -- when you see people embed photos in posts, they're usually linking to a photo that they've uploaded somewhere else (e.g. flickr, Facebook, Picasa, imgur, etc...) To change your profile image, follow these steps: Black bar on top, in the upper right where it says your username, click your name, then "My Settings" Of the tabs on the left, "Profile settings" should already be selected (but if not, click it) Near the top of that tab is a section named "photo" with a button for "Change your photo..." Once you click the button, you get the option to upload a custom photo, import a photo from a URL, use your facebook photo (if you've linked to your Facebook account), or use "gravatar" (which I understand to be some sort of cross-forum thingy).
  10. It pretty much comes down to this post: So, yeah, no hurry.
  11. See previous discussions for more detail. In short, yes, but I'm in no hurry. Unfortunately, given that they now expect to take something like four years to choose a new nickname, I probably can't hold out until a new name is chosen, as was my original goal.
  12. It's official... fightingsioux.com now redirects to undsports.com.
  13. I do think that's an important distinction. If NDSU or UND won a D-I basketball championship, that would be a nationally recognized highest-level-of-competition college championship, a huge deal that much of the country would hear about -- in contrast to an FCS championship. In that way the renaming is a good move for all those non-football sports so people don't refer to UND/NDSU basketball as I-AA, but I think it also goes a little too far in disguising that D-I FCS football is actually D-I tier #2. What the detractors here are trying to say (I think) is that FCS/I-AA isn't a real top-level championship, but just another lower division ala DII, because we're still in a (sub)division lower than SEC, Big Ten, ACC, etc... They're right, but they're also being somewhat petty, because most UND fans (including myself!) would be thrilled to be in an FCS (or D-II) title game (even though we'd know it didn't mean we were THE D-I champion -- i.e. better than Alabama -- but instead a legitimate national championship of a lower division of smaller schools).
  14. And just about the deepest the hole has ever been. Despite Hak's reputation for slow starts, only in the 08-09 campaign have the Sioux been this low in PWR at this time of year. I'll try to write up something about the implications of this for end-of-year standings soon.
  15. Done. PWR Rankings Does that make it more clear that UND would be seeded #23, but is in a 3-way tie at 21 for number of comparison won? It's certailny slightly more cluttered, but may be worth it if it can still deliver more useful information than other sources, but reduces the confusion of doing so.
  16. As stated in the "Help From Spirit Lake" thread, everyone is expected to abide by the same standards of behavior of staying on topic and avoiding personal attacks. Posts that follow those standards should appear in the appropriate relevant threads.
  17. The USCHO list is actually least reflective of the three of what the committee has done in the past. If for some reason you don't trust SiouxSports, my personal recommendation would be CHN (though I think it's a little less friendly and a lot less detailed). See my explanation at biggreyant's link above. I sincerely think it's more useful to show the tie breaker, because if the definition of PWR is a list of how teams will be seeded by the committee, there's no such thing as a tie in seeding, they'll employee the tie-breaker to choose which gets seeded higher. So, why wouldn't you incorporate the tie-breaker into the list? As explained in my link above, the reason USCHO doesn't is historical -- once upon a time we weren't sure what the tie-breaker would be so we all just said "T22"; for the past five years we've had pretty convincing evidence of how ties would be broken, so CHN has started ordering them that way while leaving the ranking "T22" and I've started ranking them that way. However, it's certailny a bad thing if I'm just confusing the non-PWRheads who wonder why it looks different from CHN, so I'll try to think of some way to keep that useful information in there while reducing the confusion -- e.g. saying #23 (T22), or something like that.
  18. Today's game was ugly, that's for sure... there's a reason that despite continuing to win, Denver keeps getting pegged as underdog, even to teams like Minnesota. However, you can't argue with the results. The many articles last week about "Real QB Rating" were interesting (despite being an obvious shill for the Cold, Hard Football Facts guys), e.g. CHFF Game Of The Week: Chicago-Denver I liked this article that pointed out that, at a minimum, the league is going to have a change a bit to bring about the long-predicted fall of Tebow... Tebow's true impact is overlooked
  19. Want to get into the soon-to-be-DI University of North Dakota? Better get your application off to Twamley Room 205 Undergraduate admissions
  20. 23 http://forum.siouxsports.com/uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png' alt=';)'> In all seriousness, it's been well established for over 5 years that committee no longer accepts tie and breaks them according to H2H, but instead strictly ranks teams based on comparisons won and RPI. Only USCHO continues to publish the old way. CHN gets the order the same as we do but still notes that the pairwise comparison are tied (which is probably a smart hedge).
  21. I'm usually the quickest to point out that UXX fans are no different from UXY fans, just different loyalties, but this is one of the few areas on which I disagree. NDSUers (at least those most vocal on the forums) seem much more sensitive about being in the middle of nowhere, whereas UNDers tend to be more sanguine about it. I suppose it comes from G.F. being significantly the smaller of the two, so it's impossible for G.F.'ers to have delusions of grandeur, whereas it seems like there's always some NDSU fan trying to claim Fargo is more like a slightly smaller Minneapolis than a slightly larger Grand Forks Anyway, best of luck NDSU -- represent N.D. well.
  22. Copy the URL from the page on YouTube, then just paste it into the message and it will autoembed: That's why there's no button for it anymore, it's now built right in.
  23. You're only making it sound more appealing, and now thanks to you I'll never see it
  24. Hmmm.... and now marked private. You scared them out of it, Kirk. All that's left is the flickr album of the shoot: flickr album of the shoot (gone in... 3... 2...)
  25. Hold tight... I'll ask the mod who locked it.
