  1. Russell Means, Who Revived Warrior Image of American Indian, Dies at 72 - NY Times Time marches on...
  2. It was always a little quirky though seemed happy in its niche. InsideCollegeHockey goodbye letter
  3. Good question. The current official rule is "No profanity or obscenity". Of course, that's pretty subjective. We've traditionally tried to prevent the big two, though have let things like sh$t go through unless an individual becomes excessive. Other words that you might be considering profanity are often also moderated for being offensive sexual innuendo. If something is getting out of hand, we're open to suggestion.
  4. Get the picture somewhere on the net, if it isn't already, click the little icon in the second row that looks like a square painting of a tree, paste the URL into the box, and that's it! If you aren't using the "rich text editor" but just typing in straight text, the code is [ img]URL[ /img] (without the spaces after the left bracket) e.g.
  5. No account with that name has attempted to register, though an SE174 was recently approved, perhaps that's him?
  6. Agreed, this is getting a bit personal. Let's keep it on topic.
  7. The ACC has really drunk the mega-conference kool-aid, haven't they? Nice for Notre Dame to keep its basketball rivalries with the old Big East schools, but the "half in" deal for football is just odd and is clearly the best the ACC could get out of ND. The Big 10 seems to be the snubbed loser, though (if it wasn't already obvious) I'm not completely convinced by these mega-conferences, so we'll see how it goes.
  8. Argh, and now they have a completely new site so I'm not even parsing the (incorrect) scores anymore anyway. I'm having a tough time getting good football score date post-Big Sky transition. http://www.bigskycon...?path=football
  9. Oh, that's clearly my fault. No one actually updates those, the page does so itself by scanning the scores. I'm clearly just keying off the presence of two conference teams, which has always worked in the past. I'll come up with some fix tonight.
  10. I think that's what led us to crack down in the first place like 5 years ago
  11. Yep, our standard for avatars is even a bit stricter than family friendly / safe for work. We want the place to be inviting to all fans, so even bikini photos and such are strongly discouraged.
  12. In looking for new data sources to pull the Big Sky scores for this site, I'm a little surprised at the bad data on the Big Sky site: http://www.bigskycon...t=5&season=2012 Northern Arizona 63 Arizona State 6 Sacramento State 49 New Mexico State 19 Both of those are transposed from what ESPN and other sources say: http://scores.espn.g...=2&weekNumber=1 Interestingly, they have the correct winning team in each bolded, just the scores transposed.
  13. One more thought. It's immediately obvious that the now "NCAA News" forum contained a lot of general UND discussion that we thought pertinent to the D-I move but not to a specific sport. I wonder if we also need a "UND News", or if that should get sucked into "Community".
  14. I'm quite sympathetic to that point, that's what led me to start this thread to begin with. Would adding "subtitles" (e.g. the lighter grey text thats under all the forum names in the community section) to the sports saying "Discuss UND and NCHC hockey", etc... help?
  15. Well, that's a whole different can of worms Renaming "Sioux name" to "UND nickname" isn't some attempt at political correctness, but just acknowledging that the discussion in that forum has shifted from discussing the name "Sioux" to discussing future nicknames. I'm still a little torn what to do about the site name. I don't want to change names just to change again in 4 years if/when UND chooses a new nickname. But, at some point new fans won't associate "Sioux" with the school anymore, and I want the site to be obviously associated with UND sports.
  16. Ok, at a minimum we really need to do something with the Sioux Name and D-I reclassification forums, as neither quite apply anymore. Based on the feedback so far, and my own thinking about it, here's my current leaning: Sioux Name => UND Nickname (since it's increasingly more about future names than Sioux) UND's Reclassification to D-I => NCAA News (I could see this capturing both realignment and other interesting moves by the NCAA, will soak up some of the Non-UND Sports threads allowing us to refocus that forum) Non-UND Sports => Non-Collegiate Sports (collegiate sports go to either the relevant sport forum, e.g. NDSU football talk will undoubtedly be in the football forum, Penn St. sanctions would likely be in NCAA news, etc...) The question, then, is there still a need for conference forums as discussed above? My guess it that the sports results would be captured in the sports forums, while the structure conversations would be captured in NCAA News, so I don't yet see a need. But, that question is what launched this thread, so I don't want to ignore it. I know it's not quite what anyone proposed, so... thoughts?
  17. I've never been to the place in question, but I doubt convection heat is so much a problem (convection probably does a better job of simulating the heat distribution of a brick oven than a regular oven would) as that the convection ovens in question just don't get hot enough. You generally run a brick oven at least 600F, up to 800F or so if you're making a Neapolitan. You can cook a pizza at a lower temperature, but you can't get the charred blistered crust most people (outside Chicago) think of as necessary for a good pie.
  18. That's what the "Non-UND sports" was supposed to capture -- everything but UND and its peers (conferencemates and NDSU have generally been discussed in the sport appropriate forum).
  19. I'm certainly open to reorganizing a bit. Let me try to stir up this conversation in the admin forum.
  20. In the past we've always just talked about our conferencemates in the forums for the respective sports (e.g. WCHA in the hockey forum, Great West in the football forum, etc...). There was a proposal here that we add a Big Sky News forum. What do people think? Would that help organize things or foster additional discussion? Would that cover all sports, so the named sports forums would primarily be for discussion of UND and people interested in the conferencemates would go to the conference forum? We haven't done that in the past because we've assumed football fans wanted to read all the conference football talk in one forum, and so forth.
  21. Yep, it's part of the moderation system. Forums with more formal moderation systems could use it to track infractions and change user statuses when they had accumulated a certain number of warning points. They way we moderate here we don't really track formal points, so the only way it will go up is if a mod contacts you for some reason, and there are no automatic status changes based on the points. And, yes, you can only see your own.
  22. That, and a few other minor cosmetic problems, should now be fixed. Let me know if anyone is still seeing anything weird. A very minor upgrade apparently cause some problems with some of the "skins", so I rebuilt them.
  23. As long as the committee includes a SiouxSports.com representative this time... (they conspicuously lacked such on the previous "stakeholder committees", where's the voice of the fan?) I'm available via Skype.
  24. Sioux legend Reg Morelli, #18 scored the game winning goal for UND's first NCAA hockey championship in 1959. After the Michigan State Spartans tied it up at 3 with a goal at 16:20 in the 3rd, Morelli sent the game winner over the sprawling Spartan goaltender, Joe Selinger, at 4:18 in OT. For that goal and assist in the final game, plus 2 goals in the opening round 4-3OT victory over St. Lawrence, Morelli was named tournament MVP. 1958-59 Championship Morelli was a lifelong friend of another Sioux legend -- Ralph Engelstad. He was one of three to give a eulogy at Engelstad's funeral, along with Tom Clifford and Ed Crispell (manager of the Imperial Palace for a quarter century).
  25. Yeah, all the skins are getting redone. The old mobile skin worked pretty well on iOS and Android, but the new one really cleans up BlackBerry and WinPhone, which I know a lot of North Dakotans use.
