And many complained that we never won the big one with Oshie and his teammates. Not I--I got great pleasure watching them play, whether they won a banner or not. Just saying some folks need banners to feel good about it all and openly expressed a willingness to live with down years so long as we got a banner now and then. Not saying that's you, Oxbow.

If that game was slowed down, it was to our benefit, not UMD's.

Yzerman speaks truth.

I don't think we can be that simplistic. This team has played above its talent level on many occasions. Those who would deny that will have to explain how this team has as much offensive talent as SCSU, UMD, Denver, or even WMU. Last night it was obvious which color most of the truly high end offensive talent was wearing. The boys were well coached from a game plan perspective, partly because we are able to count on an extremely good defensive unit. They weren't ready at the drop of the puck, and that is on the coaches. I think undisciplined physical play has been an issue for UND for quite some time, at least since the rules (or their enforcement) began to change. This is not our fathers' college hockey. Speed, high end stick skills, passing, and shooting may not be sufficient in themselves, but they are necessary, and you can't make up for their absence with physical play anymore. Like it or not, two-handed checks with the stick are old school idiocy and likely to put you in the box. You are right that it doesn't appear Berry has been able to establish a culture that is as good as Hak was able to do. As far as program coaching, Hak is among the best UND has had. He just couldn't (or didn't) game-coach the big one. But I think we all need to see what Berry and his staff do with the offensive talent that is coming in the next couple of years together with a freshman class that has big potential. If things don't change in the next year or two, then they have to consider a coaching change. edit: One thing it was nice to see was the fire and enthusiasm from some of the freshmen. I may not remember this accurately, but when the year started, I recall thinking they didn't celebrate much when someone scored. Get some fire in their bellies and joy in their hearts when things go well.

Reasonable view. Hard to have a good powerplay with subpar offensive talent. Gotta have possession players and shooters.

Cue Dandy Don.

Plus you are waived in for 5 years after winning a natty. Easy peasy.

Love henceforthly!

If this were golf, our guys would be good off the tee and decent with the long to mid range irons but terrible in the short game, where it counts. Where you put the goalie in that lame analogy, I don't know.

I have no doubt Gardner is a hard worker and a good teammate, but I'd wager he's just not real smart.
-
You're right. They played a superior team very well this weekend.
-
You're right that they didn't generate offense the first half, but those two goals did make the difference. And their captain put them in that position both times.
-
Number one being don't give them 5 on 3s.
-
I think they've been skating, but they haven't been anticipating. Plus, you give up two long 5 on 3s against UMD, you will pay the price.
-
Bernard-Docker is the best player on this team.
-
I'm convinced they don't have a player leader on this team.
-
Two goals on Gardner.

Oh Captain My Captain.
-
Jake does a good job as color man.
-
Probably, farce, but that move accomplishes nothing and invites a call. Just a needless move.
-
But why negate them with so many stupid penalties? He HAS to be smarter.
-
Captain? jfc

Meh. I have fun irregardless.
-
I just think these guys have been game coached very well against teams with more talent on the ice.

Duluth has more skill on the ice, but our D is really good.
