  1. But willy was not talking about two games, he was talking about a team that cannot play 60 minutes to save their lives. hyperbole on steroids.
  2. They've lost a total of 4 games in mid February and they can't play 60 minutes to save their lives? Funny. Frustrating to lose, but keep your wits about you.
  3. I think they are having to adjust to better opposition. Denver is not the same team they were in GF.
  4. Ouch. Hard to overcome that
  5. You have to care to hold a grudge.
  6. You can do a lot worse than listening to Tim H call Sioux hockey.
  7. Sioux boosters should buy it and donate to the Ralph
  8. I like them both, but what you say about the freshman adjustment period is true, and it makes Boeser's success all the more impressive. He IS having to learn some things in the D zone though, and maybe that will keep him in GF for an extra year.
  9. Seems to happen every year, and I'm sure most teams experience this, with the exposure these kids have to the larger student body and the way they share germs among themselves. Get it out of the way now.
  10. Boy that's a good bunch of forwards.
  11. How times can change in the world of college hockey: Maine, MSU and CC 47-49 in the PW; Q at 1; Harvard, Yale. and Penn St. in top ten; and Minnesota at 22. One thing never changes, of course. The Team Formerly Known as Sioux right there in the top 4.
  12. One shift at a time. Get pucks on the net. Stick to the fundamentals. Control the tempo. Play our game. Leave everything on the ice. Come together as a team. We really have to just go out there and have fun. Don't sweat the small stuff. Whatever will be will be.
  13. In addition to hoping all our guys stay healthy down the stretch, I hope DU and UNO play at their highest level against us and it's a tough race to the finish. It's all about getting ready for the NCAAs at this point.
  14. I've been getting gopher hate counseling for many years. It started with Bill Butters getting into a fight with Sioux fans in the old barn after he got ejected for fighting. For a long time, I was having weekly sessions; then, with realignment, that gradually decreased to the point where I now only go in once a year for a check-up. I miss my hate, and I miss my counselor. I don't know how he got the referral--he has little freezer in his office with a small dead gopher collection. It's the same little dead gophers in there now that were there 4 years ago. I know, because we look at them every time I go in, remembering the days. He is very good because he grew up in Edina and saw firsthand what there is to hate.
  15. If UND joined the big ten, I would be a little worried that our boys would be awestruck going to those great big campuses in big cites. We're talking multiple Olive Gardens in those places. And no Valley Dairy.
  16. They are still reviewing the review to determine whether it took too long.
  17. Meh. Those big shot pretty boys are overrated. Put em on the checking line where they can learn to work for a living.
  18. I agree with those who say it will not happen but that we would join if invited.
  19. Boeser? No way lol. Good top speed, but he's gotta get quicker. He won't be able to create space in the NHL. I think the JRs really showed that. Poolman can get him there. I think Poganski has show real improvement in his skating this year. One of the most improved on the team, IMO. A lot of that is desire and hustle.
  20. I have to say I really enjoy the amount of hockey knowledge so many in our fan base bring to this site. Like all fans, we tend to wear colored glasses, but there is sure a lot of knowledge here.
  21. Speaking of firing hockey coaches, where has gfhockey been?
  22. I saw visiting players (Bill Butters among them) get in fights with fans on their way off the ice at the old Barn. That place was a lot smaller and a lot colder, but it was intense. The cymbals player would crash the cymbals in the opponents face when they went up against the chicken wire at the students' end. Chicken wire.
  23. I'd have to respectfully disagree. The Greg Johnson/Dixon Ward years were not long before that, and they got a lot of fans in the building and scored a ton of points. 1991-2 was not a great year, but it was not abyss material either. I don't recall which year it was, but one of those teams was rated No. 1 for a period of time
  24. There's a difference between consistently high-end performance that just doesn't get the ring (Hak) and a ring with a sizable dose of bad performance. Lucia would be a closer call than Eaves. Eaves' banner was more recent, but there's been a lot of just plain bad there. I think Lucia might get a pass for the 3 or 4 years when the gophers sucked, as it does appear he had some serious medical issues that affected his ability to coach. Even with that though, rings or not, his teams have been full of talent and often disappointed during the regular season as well as the FF. I've poked fun at Blais and Sandy at times, but only to have some fun with the Fire Hak crowd. They are good guys who deserve their reputations as sought-after coaches.
  25. Pretty soon Minnesota Morris and Concordia will refuse to travel to UMTC.
