  1. Right now, I'd favor SCSU in a best of three. Not sure quite to take away from this weekend. The coaches may have planned a tight-checking game, knowing how many shots UMD has been taking in recent months. That may have changed the dynamics on offense a little. But it seemed like the boys were really forechecking aggressively last night, at least in the first 30 - 40 minutes. Only two goals against, one a kick-in and the other a good tip. That's pretty tight. A lot of people are very frustrated how inconsistent our offense has been, and it's hard not to feel that way, but it's usually great defense that gets you deep into the tournament, and they may be focusing on that, particularly with the forwards. Not a coach, though, so I don't know.
  2. Do Minn and Nodak have reciprocity like Minn and Wisc do?
  3. Do we know the story? Student? edit: never mind. East Grand UMD student, looks like. That will pay some tuition.
  4. Great question rednek. That was becoming as big a story as the game.
  5. Offense has struggled, but other than the kicked in goal, the D has been very solid. Only 12 SOG for the dogs. Caggiula and Boeser just haven't been capitalizing on their chances.
  6. Worst offensive team UND has ever had.
  7. boys are aggressive on the forecheck tonight
  8. 4-2 Hawks. If they win by more than 2, there will be a lot of traffic to the box in the 3rd.
  9. Yup. Current anesthesiology procedures are designed to make you forget what you experienced with a colonoscopy. You would never forget cheering for those two.
  10. I don't know why O'keefe was doing color last night, but it was sure nice to see those two together again. As a team, they are hard to beat.
  11. You need to find a way to enjoy college hockey, Cratter. I have no doubt you know the game better than most (than I, for sure), but you rarely seem to enjoy it. These are kids--did you see how happy they were after Poganski's goal? Enjoy that, if nothing else.
  12. Tims think it was the right call
  13. Not only are they up against better talent than they were playing the first half, teams have had time to watch film and prepare for them.
  14. the Tims were an excellent team years ago
  15. I'm feeling so out-of-control optimistic tonight I say Cam scores two. One on a breakaway.
  16. Sandy is ex-Sioux, so he's soft too. You have to factor that in.
  17. Don't completely exclude DU as a factor. They are much improved and could cause trouble for some teams moving forward.
  18. 35 years is not long enough to get a true perspective.
  19. More like sandbag competition we can't let them win. We can bury them on the ice or in the sand: either one.
  20. Maybe, but after being swept in Denver, the Hawks are as shattered and helpless as their fanbase. Ripe for the picking.
  21. If UND can keep UMD under 10 for the weekend it will be a great weekend.
  22. I do hope the boys get on top of the faceoff game. Special teams are so important in tourney time, and winning faceoffs is critical for PK and PP success.
  23. It's been hard not to notice that, MM. I think there is a term for that in formal logic, when people basically allow themselves to claim that the offensive or disappointing act was not committed by the person or group they favor but by a different version of that person or group. The team that Denver beat on Friday was not our Sioux team but the worst version Sioux team we have seen all season--an aberration. We all do it, I'm sure, when our boys lose, but it seems that the more vested we are in the outcome on a personal happiness level, the more likely we are to do that. Not that that makes any sense, now that I've read it. That wasn't me thinking clearly.
  24. Far and away the most successful team in the modern era is BC, and they have had few NHL draftees. Oh, wait . . .
