Could the goaltender who sees few shots lose his edge?
-
It's definitely great to have a local establishment where us ex-pats can go watch the games together. And it is a good crowd normally. Way to go Senser's! Way to go Sioux Fans!
-
Those numbers confirm my recollection as well. Our PP has never been top shelf. It will get better however, 6% or so success is an anomaly.

must be a lot of lovers of 70's and 80's rock on here. Those were the glory days of rock. amen

This could be but if so it is new this year. We arranged a tour on saturday afternoon last January. Unfortunately they don't take you through the "guts" of the place. Most all you see are things like the suites, and the bar, etc.

I thought that was great too but I don't know where they got that "players don't go to class" thing. It's happened but Blais has been very upfront about addressing it and I doubt that is no different than anywhere else. That one kind of bugs me that they would make it sound like our players don't go to class.

During the Sat. MN game Woog said Schmitt watched the tape of the Friday game and said he'd probably make a different call on the Matt Greene non-goal thing. So they apparently do review tapes, sometimes right away. Didn't the league or the NCAA recently do a 2 ref 2 lineman experiment? I don't know the outcome of that....

I managed time to watch the first period of the Saturday MN series tonite. In the one PP I paid attention to the Sioux first line never even got set up. The second unit was out for the last minute and they were able to cycle the puck. But this I found interesting, they played almost the whole minute on one side of the offensive zone. With that little space it seems it would be much easier for the shorthanded team to cover. There were 2 defensemen at the blue line, a forward at the half-wall, one in the corner, and one in front of the net. And they really didn't cycle it that much, just pass it around that half of the ice. It was only one PP. I plan to pay closer attention from now on.

This is excellent for me. I like this idea too. IMO, the Sioux spent a lot of time cycling the puck down low, and only sometimes had a guy parked to take advantage of a rebound. We did create some opportunities but didn't bury enough of them. Looks like this system is going to have a couple of guys available in rebound space, and we can work the puck around the top of the umbrella and fire away when there is an opportunity. There'll be more bodies around the goalie but we'll also have twice as many sticks available to slap home a rebound, hopefully. Looks like it's worth a try to me.

SFiP quick, delete your post.

I'd like an expert to explain how the umbrella works.

Is it just me or does anyone else think a better choice in front of the net would be someone who knows how to score, like Bo, or Massen, or Genoway or at least someone NOT a defensive defenseman?
-
I think our forwards have plenty of size. From the few games I have watched it seems to me the Sioux have had ample opportunity to get the puck on net, just haven't got it in for some reason. I also agree something must be missing, because a team like SCSU and make the pretty passes and bury the puck yet we seem to struggle to get the ugly goal. Still, I think this is more coincidence right now that we are not scoring on the PP, than poor systems. We seem to just not bury the puck. Frankly, that concerns me like our scoring drought at the end of the last year. Fortunately we're scoring well even strength...

Bull! You apparently haven't looked at my avatar.

Then you must really like Mike Prpich

I always pulled for Wes because he was a speedy high energy guy on the ice. My impression of him (remember this comes from someone who knows little about the game) was that he didn't adjust well to the college game. It seemed to me he often tried the fancy stickhandling that might have got him by in juniors but NEVER got him anywhere in D1. That, and Wes often got frustrated on the ice and took slashing type penalties at bad times. Wes had a decent freshman year but I think really went downhill his sophomore year. I think he had a better junior year and respectable senior year IMO, but not to the level of expectations based on the hype about him as a recruit. I do think in his sophomore year Wes may have been in the dog house but by the end of his junior year at least it seemed from my perspective that he was being counted on as a contributor, and not an afterthought.

Well, my vote doesn't count because I'm not there to hold them nor put them together. But if I had a vote it would be to continue to make signs. PCM makes very valid arguments. Personally, I could understand why the 5 for Hooking sign would get pulled but can't for the life of me understand the Fix the Huskies one. I mean, that is a procedure done routinely on your household pets that is commonly talked about at the dinner table for goodness sake........ I would still make THAT sign. But just watching a bit more closely to the others. Either that, or make the signs, but not complain when 5 or 10% of them get pulled on the way in. You still have the rest.... The thing is, once you know the situation, you adjust to it and accept it. I think the signs are great because there are a lot of clever ideas put into them. Just my thoughts from 5 hours away.

Faul was by no means a flop. However, he didn't appear to be as talented as some of his others peers, saw the writing on the wall that ice time was going to be limited at best, and moved on to greener pastures.

In some past years Sioux fans could readily scream about a goal here or there that was given to the opposition or taken away from us. So far in both the MN series and the SCSU series there apparently have been calls that COULD have gone either way, and went our way. Against MN is the Matt Greene in the crease play, and apparently against SCSU there was a goal where we may have had a player in the crease on Saturday? My point is that even if the correct call was made, either of these plays sounded close enough where another call could have been made. In both cases they went for the Sioux, so we have to be happy about that. That hasn't always been the case. So we got THAT going for us...

Little kids playing hockey would be great but if they are still having difficulty getting the ice to set up between periods maybe they should can all the between period stuff and just get the zamboni out there. On the other hand, if the ice is good, get those little rats out there!

Bull, you're afraid Schneider will kick your ass.

As hard as some of us have been on our goaltenders for the last couple of years I think it is only fair to recognize the current state of affairs. Parise has been solid and has given the team a chance to win every game he's been in. Ziggy hasn't had much of a chance to play yet. But Jake Brandt, what can you say? Yes, it is early and 5 games don't make a season but let's recognize the job he's done so far. Here's his line from USCHO stats page 6 Jake Brandt, Jr, UND 5(games) 3-2-0 289:29(minutes) 8(goals) 102(shots) .927 1.66 Ok, He's 3-2. BUT in those 2 losses he's given up 2 goals in each game. Who would start a goalie who gives up only 2 goals in every game? Me.... Blais obviously recognizes that as well from his comments about why he played Jake last Sat in addition to Friday. I'm still for playing Parise and/or Ziggy but at this point I think Brandt needs to be your main guy to see if he can provide that consistency. I mean playing 3 of every 4 games or so. Jake is really doing the job in nets so far, and props out to him for hanging in there and playing well. Go Jake!

jk, I don't know why you'd apologize. It was posted publicly......

If Jason and Kevin had played we wouldn't have been outhustled on Friday night. Good luck Notermann!

YOu mean the Saigo poster didn't make it into the game? What a shame. And they kept your "Fix the Huskies" poster? Unreal. This is WAY out of hand.
