On the other hand, if QU misses a couple of posts just a bit more inside, and 1-2 pucks don't bounce over stick blades on cross-ice passes and this would have been a real clencher of a game. People might rip me for saying this, but UND had a lot of the good fortunate that has eluded them in several past NCAA tournaments paid off in this game. Don't get me wrong....I think UND played a very very good game and they deserved to win the game based on how they played. I think QU had a little of the bad luck that has so often bitten UND. For me, you play that game again the next night and it could have gone the other way. I do recall the TV guys saying after the 1st period that the QU coach said it may have been their worst period of the year. I'll go back to Siouxman's question....was that on QU, or was that because of UND's play. Probably some of both. That final score was lopsided, but I think QU showed they were a very dangerous team and didn't have a few things go their way that really would have tighted this up. They DID have the benefit of the officiating, IMO. So they had THAT going for them.

On guys leaving early, and guys who left saying they'd stay if they could choose over again........an undrafted guy like Stecher has to take the best offer when he can, and his negotiating leverage will never be higher than it is right now, because he can always say "I'll just stay in school, then". Next year, he HAS to sign somewhere, so he looses SOME leverage. Not to mention what if he has his knee taken out in the Frozen Four. Then where are his offers? A guy who has been drafted? A bit different story, and I suspect they have a little more leeway in deciding to stay.

She would have loved living in Mpls this morning. The civil defense siren went off about 6:30 am across Hennepin County. (or at least parts of the county). Clear, beautiful morning meant this wasn't a weather related event. Which either meant something pretty scary or else a glitch. People jammed 911 calling to find out what was going on. Yes, people called 911 to find out what the "emergency" was. Some people said they "panicked" when hearing the siren. Good grief, people. Take a moment to check things out, huh? Like turn on the TV or check a media outlet website. If something that nasty is going on, don't you think they'd have a headline running?

Stecher is also in the best bargaining position of his life. His play is at it's peak, and he can tell teams "thanks, maybe I'll just stay in college another year" until they offer his price. Would sure love to see him back but I know that won't happen, and I can't begrudge the guy for it. Good luck to him. An example of another great UND hockey player/leader. We see these guys go and we think we'll never see anyone like them again, but then the coaches keep bringing in new guys who become just as revered by us fans because they are great players, great leaders, great people.

Don't agree. I have that on DVR, and we watched it on replay at the time. it was a good call, though I don't think they should have called cross-checking. I think they should have called goalie interference. He didn't hit the goalie hard enough for cross-checking, but he never should have pushed the goalie there. That was a dumb penalty. I'm sure Dubay is also talking about Stecher's xc on Anas. That was also not a great decision but it was a borderline call, and if you're going to play hurt don't be surprised if someone tries to check you. That said, I don't condone (was it Janatuinen) who was clearly caught on replay after the whistle taking shots on Anas's shoulder with his stick. It wasn't a heavy shot, but it's still over the line IMO. That said, Dubay clearly isn't being objective here. Quinnipiac should have been called for far more than they were called for. QU may have felt like the hockey gods owed them a better outcome (a couple posts, some bouncing pucks, etc. that would have really made this a an, dare I say it, a real Anas clencher) but they did get the better part of the officiating overall. Other than a couple of things, though, I don't know what game Dubay was watching.

There's a big difference between being pessimistic, and being critical/judgmental, etc. I think that's the point MafiaMan, jk and others (myself included) are making. I don't deny I was also thinking "here we go again in the 3rd against Denver, not once was I inclined to rip the players, coaches, facilities, etc. Sometimes crap happens, or the other team puts you on your back foot, etc. But I knew the players and coaches were trying harder to win than I could ever imagine.

Congratulations to Coach Berry for a masterful job as a first time ever head coach. Thank you for your dedication to the UND hockey program and continuing to build on the strong tradition that is UND Fighting Sioux hockey (or Fighting Hawks Hockey or however you want to refer to it). As nothing more than a fan/alumni, thank you again! Thank you to all of the players for showing the kind of character (not in winning, but in how you carry yourselves) that makes a fan WANT to root for you. We're very lucky as fans of this hockey program that we can like and respect the players we root for. And thank you to Coach Hakstol, who really kept this program on an upward trajectory, who was ultimately responsible for recruiting this team, and in all he did to ensure there were coaches ready to step in when he was no longer around. Hak's thumbprint is on this win and he deserves his share of the credit for that. Thank you! We're spoiled as fans of the greatest college hockey program in the country, but I try not to take it for granted.

I don't think Hak ever had a team like this with such experience/talent in the D corp, as effective a top line as the CBS line, and enough forward depth to keep the other team honest. PLUS, the best goalie performance (Cam Johnson) in many many years, who didn't have a bad game at the worst time of the year. We could argue until the cows come home about whether or not Hak would have won a championship with this team, and no one on either side of the argument knows for sure. But this team was awfully talented. And they got the big performances from the "big knockers" (thanks, Burnsie!) when needed. Very impressive. No easy games in this run. This title was well earned. Over the years there were several great stories ready to be written about a possible UND championship team, but they didn't get written because the team didn't quite pull it off. This team rode a hard road all the way to the end. They definitely earned this one.

Was he upset their guy didn't get called for a 5 min major on that CFB too? The calls against UND were legit, but with a 4-1 disparity in goals (and no, I don't believe PP's should be evened up for the sake of it) I was surprised that Q got away with a few things here and there.

This is exactly it. I don't think anyone expects everyone to always have a sunny, optimistic outlook. I was as down as anyone in the 3rd period Thursday night and I really didn't expect UND to end up winning that game. But I wasn't going to rip the team for it, accuse them of not caring, or feeling that I was owed better, blah blah blah. I might have said "oh, boy, here we go again" because we've seen NCAA games get away from us in so many different ways over the years. You hit it on the head with the bolded part. GO UND!!
