Last night, I felt we gave them a little too much respect. Tonight, we've been all over them, giving them less time and space. Even if its 1-1 after 1, I like the way we look tonight.

Went to the game. (My daughter is an Arizona State alumni.) ASU looks like a team that just got put together. Lot of decent skaters, but not much yet for elite skills. Also, a lot of roster players that are not yet eligible (Murphy, among others) ... odd to see ASU with a 33-man roster. SCSU did what they needed. Prow had a very good game.

Once again nil to nil after one period not quite the intimidating home ice crowd there, Sweden. Quiet ...

(Just noticed this item about there being zero Gophers on this year's team, sorry) Zero Gophers is great news! There is a pretty strong negative correlation historically between USA success and the number of Gophers. USA has won medals 67% of the time (2 of 3) when there's zero Gophers on the team. When there's 2 or more, only 2 of 18 times (11%). Two UND skaters is also a good omen - 50% (3 of 6 times) that USA wins a medal. Only 2 of 12 (17% when there's no UND skaters). (Statistics are for the past 30 years.) And, yes, I'll be chatting in the office - about these statistics - with my friends who are Gopher hockey fans.

I wonder if there's a connection between these two items... PS they attended the same prep school.

Its time to change the rules on rink setup. I propose the following amendment to Rule 1, Section 10 "Penalty Bench". http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/rules/fielddiagrams/IceHockey.pdf Specifically, to add a subsection c: "In the event the Team Benches are not equally distant from the Penalty Benches, the Visiting Team shall have the choice of which Team Bench they choose to use. In the event the Team Benches are equally distant from the Penalty Benches, the Home Team shall have the choice of which Team Bench they choose to use. Rationale: to prevent home teams from gaining an unfair competitive advantage by situating their own bench much closer to the penalty box. Its unfair, and should be eliminated from the game.

Couple of nice scores out East that will bump UND's RPI a little: Vermont with the 4-2 upset win over BU. Maine pulls a tie off UNH. And I'm always glad to see Bemidji get a win ... tonight 2-0 over Ferris State.

We looked solid in period one. Half step ahead of Denver. But we can be sure they come harder in period 2 - they always do. Time to step it up.
