Indeed. You can add both BC and BU to that list of teams we rank above.
-
We've played them even so far in the 3rd. 5 minutes left. 5-0.
-
I think we benefited over most of the last decade from the behind the scenes coaching of Karl Goehring. Goaltending has dipped since he left.

"everybody get your shot glasses ready, we're getting a bunch of announcer penalties on UND here "
-
OK, I heard calls for two more shots right at Samberg's tripping penalty.
-
5x5 we look pretty good. Let's keep it 5x5, boys.
-
Yeah, I'd like to think winning trumps all, but I may be too competitive.
-
For my $.02, this is the biggest reason for the quiet crowd. I really dislike that we're selling our home ice advantage - crowd noise - for a few bucks here and there. Would welcome as a compromise, there's no in-game adverts during the 3rd period and overtime.

Leave it to SI to miss the 80 percent of the story. The Presidents of the other Big Ten schools: * Will be happy at a stronger link to all the research money these two bring in. * May already be applying pressure to stay clean and stop with the headlines. Losing is fine. Killing people (last I checked) would probably make a President unhappy.

NORTH DAKOTA VS miami GAMEDAY THREAD (FRIDAY)
farce poobah replied to iluvdebbies's topic in Men's Hockey
I only ever heard I wa bu che ... For parts of both seasons with UND (78-79 and 79-80), when the other goaltender was having a slump, he was really good. And he was flashy in making reaction saves which was crowd pleasing. In 1980, by the time tournament time rolled around, freshman Darren Jensen was the #1, and he played the title game in Providence. (Plus Jensen later played in the NHL ... and was a really sound goaltender.) Iwabuchi was backing up for those games. -

I'll see your Eddie and raise you an Iwabuchi (1978-1979). -
Yes.
-
Yeah, they got a grungy goal that became the game winner. But they didn't give MSU much in the last 90 seconds when it was 6x5 with the empty net.
-
ASU moves up to #5 in the Pairwise with that win.

NORTH DAKOTA VS miami GAMEDAY THREAD (FRIDAY)

Faceoff stats from the box score: UND 28, Miami 17. Gardner 14-6 and Jones 9-3 were most of that. Another reason we seemed to have the puck all night. EDIT: Oh, and we had 25 blocks, from 15 different guys. Nice sign everyone's getting on board. -
NORTH DAKOTA VS miami GAMEDAY THREAD (FRIDAY)

I'm really happy with how sound the team hockey play has been. Excellent positional play, guys find the open man, cover for each other on D, and all that makes us hard to play against. Only 17 SOG for Miami tonight. Faceoffs also a measure of team chemistry, but I didn't see that stat yet tonight. Well done boys. The weekend's work is halfway complete. -
Happy that their video quality is nicer than Oceanside Arena. (Free feed:) https://thesundevils.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=437

Every one of their wins is a little brick in the Pairwise wall.

The thing I don't get about Chicago firing Quenneville ... what did they learn in the first 15 games of the season that they didn't learn during his first 1000 games behind the bench? Leadership could have talked him into it during the long summer, and messaging about how he was looking for some time on the beach after working for so long... and the team would have benefitted from new coach and approach during training camp. This seems like a leadership screw up. (And yeah they can straighten their tie in the reflection of 3 Stanley Cups in their offices, but still ...)

Chicago is like every other major city in North America - if you stay in the right part of town, you're likely to be just fine. For example, Las Vegas has a higher rate of violent crime than Chicago, but I didn't hear of any incidents affecting UND fans. https://www.bestplaces.net/compare-cities/las_vegas_nv/chicago_il/crime

Starting to get enough games played to see trends emerge re conference strength: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/reports/standings-interconf.php?s=20182019 NCHC as usual with the best inter-conference winning percentage at .684, which would be hyuge if that continues (6 in the Tourney?) WCHA much improved so far, at 19-21-3. Big Ten with a losing record vs both WCHA (4-7-1) and NCHC (4-6-1). Boosted to over .500 by a large cushion vs the East. A good start to the season if you're a western college hockey fan. And that one independent, Arizona State, at 7-3, sits in the (way too early) top 10 of both KRACH and RPI.

North Dakota vs Wisconsin 11/2 & 11/3 - Preview

Yes indeed. He and Archibald were teammates at Moose Jaw in juniors before moving on to college. But it was John Newberry that started with the water bottles. -

And on the other side of the ice, Wisconsin had several future NHL'ers. Most notable on their side was Chris Chelios.
