(Trying to make lemonade from lemons here …) this game was a fabulous sales pitch from the NCHC to Arizona State U hockey. As far as hockey support goes, “the big time” means NCHC. As far as championships go, that also means NCHC. quick math … adding ASU to NCHC would almost double total enrollment of the conference.

The games at the bottom of the table (standings) are every bit as important as the games at the top. Think of it - no more tanking! Would certainly make US major league sports more interesting. European soccer also requires clubs to pay for their own stadiums. No extortion of money from the city or state. I'm a fan of that also.

My favorite Howard Walker story ... One game, a line brawl broke out. It's the 1970's and so it happened commonly. And it's right in front of the student section at the old Winter Sports Center. After the first couple guys start throwing down, everyone starts pairing up. Couple opponents look around, pretend they don't see Howard Walker, and pick a different Sioux player. Eventually, its just him and a smallish guy - think 5'7". Walker grabs him by the front of jersey at the collar, picks him up, shakes him a little, and just drops him like a load of laundry. Guy gets back up, tries to throw punches at Walker, but is held at arms length (think Three Stooges type of flailing). Howard rolls his eyes (no masks remember), picks him up off the ice at arms length and drops him like a load of laundry again. By this time we are all laughing, and Howard looks over at us and starts laughing too.
