  1. Agree entirely. Another example: 2000 WCHA Final Five, title game. Bayda's hit on a Badger D 30 seconds into the game. Sets the tone for a big win. After 5 minutes of Friday's game, I said "UND just dished out a weekend's worth of body checks in the first five minutes (exaggerating, but just a bit). I like our chances." The best leading indicator of Sioux success is whether they're throwing body checks. (Second best is whether we're winning the battles along the boards.)
  2. Quiz time: Who's older - Jonathan Toews or Alex Kangas? Answer below. In the meantime, let's note that certain Gopher fans (not all) epitomize the old saw of "repeat a lie often enough and you'll start to believe it". Answer: Kangas is older. Toews, another overage Canadian at UND, entered school, played two years, and started playing in the NHL before Kangas ever played in a game with the Gophers. Fact. Toews: Born April 29, 1988 Kangas: Born May 28, 1987

    Well said. Ditto.
  4. Yes!
  5. This from a fan who loves the Canadian enthusiasm for this game that I love so much ....: Once again, the referees are being intimidated into not calling penalties against Canada and calling too many on their opponent. Canada may well be the best team, but we'll never really know because of the large favoritism they're getting. Let's get more of these tournaments on neutral ice.
  6. Meanwhile in Minneapolis, Brown got a shot on goal. Edit: make that 2. One of which went it. 4-1 Gophers.
  7. Satellite dish ?
  8. "Beacon over the Western Lands" ... the eternal flame of learning burns at the University. (Think the alma mater song...)
  9. Nice Sweeneyism in the second period: "Congratulations to Sam Bradford on winning the Heisman, if you're watching this broadcast." LOL
  10. This "goal" is the same as the goal that UND scored vs Cornell that was waved off for a man in the crease. This should be waved off too. If there's any justice in the world, that is.
  11. Softest goal of the season ... 1-1. Come on Eidsness, step it up. Rest of the team looks great tonight.
  12. Sioux have excellent jump. Huskies skating in molasses. Sioux also hitting, which is always a good sign.
  13. ESPN may have missed it, but Versus gave it the #1 play of the week on tonight's broadcast.
  14. I think that Chuck-a-Puck should be replaced with Chuck-a-Gopher (plastic) for this weekend too.
  15. Next time I think about saying something bad about Gwozdecky, someone please remind me of this. Thanks for posting.
  16. Nice find. Thanks for posting.
  17. Re Vanek - I just think that you have to be good on both ends to finish an NHL season at +47. (You also have to play a lot with some good players and matchups.) What I've seen on Versus suggests he's no longer a defensive liability. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/teams/stats?...=0&type=reg And as DaveK says, some coaches will let guys get away with playing just one end, while others don't.
  18. Maybe the most intriguing game of the night - Air Force at Denver - audio link: http://all-access.cbssports.com/player.htm...amp;media=82851
  19. I'm going to go against the prevailing opinion, and say it was a textbook skate-in-the-crease call that waved off the Sioux goal. They got the call right, at least that one time. Now, if they would clamp down on Cornell's stick work.
  20. End of 2. 3-2 Green > Red.
  21. I'd really like to see Gregoire get some time on the powerplay with Duncan and Vandevelde. His hockey sense and puck skills are outstanding. Hextall is the better fit for 5x5.
  22. Nice couple shifts for the Sioux. Starting to get some cycle going.
  23. Welcome to ss.com. Your guys looking good so far.
  24. Ridiculously bad defending there, both by Miller and then by Marto. We really need Finley.
  25. Sioux looking better each shift, but its still 0-1. 3 minutes left in 2nd.
