hey guys, i dont know if anyone has heard of nate schmidt, but he played for st cloud cathedral in minnesota as an 8th grader this past season. i havent had a chance to see him play ever, but i hear he really has some talent, and some huge potential. hes a bit young still so he still has some time to grow and mature in his game. the reason im starting this idea is because i recently talked to his brother mike, and learned that UND was his favorite college hockey team, and would love to be a Sioux in the future. ive included some of what is on the western college hockey blog. you can check it out at the following link under the high school hockey game report section. http://westerncollegehockey.blogspot.com/2...ey_archive.html but here is the text.. I had heard a lot of good things about Cathedral's 8th grader Nate Schmidt going into this game. Schmidt is a little different than most 8th graders playing high school hockey, like St. Thomas Academy's Jordan Schroeder last year, in that he doesn't look like an 8th grader at all. He's already 5'11" 165 lbs., and you'd never guess he was an 8th grader by looking at him. Schmidt played on the top line but started the game out very slowly. Cathedral got bottled up in their own end and Schmidt really struggled controlling breakout passes with his backhand along the boards. He wasn't afraid to throw his weight around a little bit, but that's not really his style of play. The word about him must have gotten out because it seemed like he was skating around with a target on his chest. He took three or four huge hits in the first period that seemed to slow him down some. He did get control of the puck along the wing a couple times, but never got the space to really get moving. The second half of the game was a complete 180 for him though. It started when Cathedral got their first powerplay of the game. Schmidt looked great playing the wing on the powerplay. He was confident with the puck on his stick, and did a great job moving without the puck. He actually scored on the powerplay in the second period when he snuck to the side of the net and jammed home a rebound, but the goal was called back by a controversial man-in-the-crease call. By the third period, he was unquestionably the most dangerous player on the ice. When he got a little space to really get moving along the wing, he was very tough to stop. He missed one goal when he fired a one timer that just missed the net on the powerplay. He finally tied the game with about 5 minutes to go when he took a drop pass and fired a huge slap shot. He was also on the ice for the overtime winner. He played every other shift late in the game and was the guy Cathedral was really looking for to make something happen. I think he's got a great future in hockey. He had a tremendous shot and great offensive instincts. I think he'll be ready for the USHL by the time he's a sophomore in high school. While the Huskies have gotten a lot of local talent in recent years, they've lost some of the bigger prospects to Minnesota like Howe and Harrington. Schmidt will probably be another challenge for St. Cloud to see if they can keep one of their top prospects in the local area.

i actually think kupchella does like the hockey program here. i talked with him at the final 5 before the UND scsu game and he was bouncing off the walls in anticipation. he must have told me 3 or 4 times how cool it was to be a part of all that...just my two cents

i totally agree with larsensa. i am from minnesota and im used to seeing indians get a whole heap of stuff no one else gets. you can pull the card, yeah we owe all of this to them, but we dont. england had to expand and we came over here for the land, its just taking over a country. yeah we took it from them and gave them nothing but little indian reservations. but we could have gave them nothing. now today were sitting here seeing indians get special rights for college, sporting/fishing, and thdy usually arent even goverened under state law..at least not in minnesota. you cant tell me this special treatment is warranted just because we took over their land. you dont see countries that took over neighboring countries giving away money, schooling and special benefits to their former enemies. we fought for this land, and so did they..they lost. they need get over it and get on with their lives instead of pissing away everything theyve been given with alcohol and/or drugs. it seems to me the only thing i ever hear about native people is, i want, i need, i cant. if they change their damn attitudes, get some motivation to be somebody and try to live the best they can, maybe, just maybe they can actually become a productive race. you can call me racist, call me whatever, but its not going to change my mind about this issue. i along with several other seriously think the special benefits should be stopped and equality for all races be granted. ok im done now..sorry if i offended anyone as im sure i did, but something needs to change.

either way, i will cheer for "the sioux" as long as i am here. and i hope other students do the same at games. assuming we have to change it itd be cool if the students still did the sioux chants...

and you dont think jacques had ANYTHING to do with their early success???
-
veterans that nobody wanted because they werent too good...the wild have some young talent if you ask me, even though no one wants them. once the young guys start gelling well together i think they are going to be pretty good. the wild have some young guys with amazing speed.

we might not like how he coaches but lets remember a couple years back when he had a bunch of nobodys to work with and made a strong run in the stanley cup playoffs..
-
ohh ok, i was just wondering if it was something important.
-
whats the significance of this prospect game? or is it just guess who were talking about sort of thing?
-
i think i heard somewhere hes been skating in practice;)

i talked with president kupchella about the issue after fridays game in the cities..but all i could get out of him was, "i dont want to leak anything yet, but there are some changes in place if some people agree". ha i know its really not much, but i thought it was cool you posted about it after i just asked him about it personally.
-
yeah i think that was pretty much explained when i said, a good memory...since thats usually what friends do. i was just wondering if anyone else had the idea that maybe he wont be here next year.
-
just something to think about here..but did anyone else notice after the win on saturday when stafford came out onto the ice to take a picture with jpar in the crease? i might just be looking way too deep into the whole situation, but i cant help but think of the meaning behind this. yeah it might be just a way to get a good memory, but did anyone else get the idea maybe it will be the last chance stafford gets to take a pic with jordy in the final five?
-
yeah, theres no way that went un-noticed and somehow slipped through production, and all the way to reaching the people...totally disrespectful to even pass those out when they were wrong.

if it is an mcl injury i have some experience...i tore mine and i played on it for a couple games(which wasnt smart because i turned a half torn mcl into a completely torn one). i was out for almost 4 months...but if its a sprain a couple weeks and he should be good to go..no doctor, just my two cents here from what i can remember the doctor telling me.
