  1. Pagan has pitched as well as Rogers, better if you look at ERA+. Paddack injury certainly disappointing but that happens. Brayan Medina could be be a huge arm in the future. Certainly not an epic fail.
  2. As a Yankee fan not at all happy about the needless drama Donaldson has now created for a team that was steamrolling. Sanchez will be solid for the Twins and Gio will settle in. He is a great teammate and I think probably helping the good clubhouse vibe there. Interested to see how the series go when they match up in early June.
  3. The SWAC makes that decision for them.
  4. KC is a perfect fit. Sprint Center is wide open, would be an instant rivalry for the Blues and already in the Central Division but cuts travel tremendously.
  5. Agree that Midco is only choice for TV. Beyond the vast difference in production quality, giving Forum Communications a penny would make me sick after what they have done to Grand Forks media. For radio, reach is the issue and also importance of game coverage vs coaches shows, etc which network affiliates less likely to also pick up. Think streaming needs to be a key component in both deals as that is the future.
  6. There's no reason solar panels couldn't be built into the roof of a car (or possibly event the hood or trunk). That would greatly extend range and also take pressure of charging stations. Same holds true for the roofs of flatbed trailers, that could help power hybrid trucks.
  7. UND needs to expand more into cold weather research. Talk to the Twitter King and get some money poured into a research facility for electric cars. If they can be made more viable in cold weather that is a huge additional market for Teslas.
  8. I think one thing you could see going away are the number of sports required to be offered. You might then see a lot more geographic appropriate offerings, maybe stuff like Curling starting up, or schools going to more boutique combos like Denver has. And wait for the Title IX lawsuits when you see schools helping line up NLI deals, but only for men's teams. That will only further the separation between haves and have nots.
  9. Autobids are a smaller portion of hockey field than any other major sport. Atlantic hockey champ has been plenty competitive. 7th autobid wouldn't be an issue at all.
  10. Of course a $35M project in 2018 is probably now conservatively $40M if not higher. Need to get shovels in the ground soon, or it will be $50M. The time to be building was 5 years ago. Inflation isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
  11. I think you just need to do it like basketball. Come up with the bracket first and then place them in the two regionals, doing best to minimize total travel. Don't need to have the whole side of a bracket in one side, just any two quadrants. So the Overall 1 and 2 seeds and their quarters of the bracket could be at the same regional site if that makes sense for travel and attendance.
  12. The fact that they didn't do so (like Drake) is telling, and probably a sign the operation "Jettison Summit" could be in the offing.
  13. Except that "that team" is the US National Team, not Roseau High or the Lincoln Stars. Context matters. Not saying he is ready, but that's not a compelling argument to say he isn't.
  14. 6 MVC schools also allows them to start a separate league with autobid and screw the Dakota schools. They would certainly include Youngstown as 7. That's why summit football needs to happen
  15. UMD also almost went back to back to back and at a time when that is much harder to do. They have twice as many Frozen Four appearances, and while they didn't win a title they had a very strong stretch in mid 80s. They may not be with the true value bloods but they are a notch above LSSU.
  16. But LSSU did absolutely nothing outside their 88 to 94 stretch. UMD made a final in 84 and have produced the most Hobey winners. They are definitely a notch below the 5 timer club, but trending in right direction. I'd say they are most likely school to be the next to 5. They have been more relevant this century than Wisconsin, Michigan or BU. How they continue after Sandelin's departure will determine if the make the full jump to elite.
  17. I'd bump Denver up to #2, they have titles in 5 decades, second only to UND with six. They have also done it under four coaches. They have conference titles nearly on par with Minnesota and far surpass Wisconsin. BC and BU really are a toss-up, but BC has more Frozen Fours so would give them nod based on that. Weathering coaching departures is probably what makes the elite programs. Michigan couldn't do it after Vic Heyliger, Denver struggled after Murray Armstrong, BU has been inconsistent in post Jack Parker years. BC will be interesting case when York retires (they have struggled in his twilight years). UNDs only down time was the Bjorkman era.
  18. Because st. Cloud had a measure of success in the WCHA that Mankato never had. Mankato has dominated the (W)CCHA, but it's delusional to think the same would have occurred in the NCHC.
  19. I'd like to see just an independent tourney for an autobid. Don't try to shoehorn all these teams into existing conferences. The autobid is key to survival, but if independents can schedule geographically appropriate games they will he fine. For the Alaska schools the exempt games are a big bonus. Alabama in the winter also a nice spot especially if it isn't every year If all leagues went to 22 or 24 game conference schedules that would enhance things more. If the leagues all expand with the new teams interconference games decline and that isn't good for anyone.
  20. Bird in the hand baby. Take the best you can and worry about next year, next year.
  21. A Grand Forks Kroll's would be awesome.
  22. Vermont probably hosting because of Martin St. Louis.
  23. A Hawaiian BBQ place like L&L or Oahu in Bismarck.
  24. Speak for yourself. I get that you can't come to grips that the WCHA days are over. The NCHC came into being to get away from those schools. And if you can't see the appeal of travel to AZ in the winter and how ASU might appeal to Denver and CC, I can't help you. North Dakota isn't the only school in the NCHC.
