  1. I'm with you on both counts here. Nokotas seems like someone is just trying to hard.
  2. Awkward?

One of my kids was at Scheel's in Fargo today and said the UND gear store was a mob scene.

Is there really any question in anyone's mind as to the university's desire? This thing could've been taken care of 10 years ago as two line-items in a construction budget. But that is ancient history. Today, I am disappointed in the university's leadership, and in the SBOHE. But I've been of the mind that the name/logo was gone the minute the "agreement" with the NCAA was made. Everything that's happened since that day has merely been whistling in the dark.
  5. ^almost makes the Final Five look cheap.
  6. The concerns might have been warranted. IIRC current UofM AD Joe Maturi hired Blasi in '99. I'd imagine they've kept in touch.
  7. Another potential Gopher coach has been re-signed by his present employer: Miami extends Enrico Blasi thru 2017!
  8. never mind
  9. I think my friend here ^ wins today's Understatement of the Day" award.
  10. I wonder if this is part of what Hakstol was talking about yesterday with regards to off-season training? That's two very solid top lines. I expect great things from Knight next year. I didn't really notice him early on, but he sure made his presence known in the second half. I remember reading about him in the committed prospects thread and thinking, 'wow! he'll be fun to watch' and then being rather disappointed. By the end of January I was drinking the CK Kool-Aid.
  11. Great to see someone really into their job.
  12. I read somewhere that 73.27% of all statistics are made up. The other 19.54% are simply wrong.
  13. Well...... That's interesting!
  14. Seems like a pretty cheesy trophy.
  15. ^This (along with the general sentiment of this thread) illustrates perfectly the scourge of great expectations. The only measure of success to many fans is a goal only one team can reach. Anything else is failure. I understand, but I don't get it.
  16. Rumor has it Blasi has applied. You can, too. Here's the job posting
  17. Um, the Sioux were 7-3-1 on 20 November this season. Nobody plans for having your best player taken away from your team 11 games into the season.
  18. Sorry. I forgot Johnson is here in Fargo running the Force. I just don't see him taking an assistant job.
  19. You think Johnson would go back to being an assistant? He ran the whole darn show in Nebraska.
  20. I found the other numbers I was looking for: John Markell, the recently fired OSU hockey coach, made $227,500 in 2008 (which sort of aligns with the program figures I posted above). Dave Hakstol's base for 2007-08 was $210,000 plus incentives of up to 25% if he and the team reach certain goals, such as playing in the Frozen Four. The contract also includes $50,000 annually in deferred compensation. Obviously, a head coach's salary were Eades to get the job, would be more than what he is making at UND as an assistant.
  21. I can't find the numbers I am looking for, but according to figures reported to the US Dept of Education for the '08-09 school year (latest available) compare UND with OSU: Men's Hockey Total Revenue Total Expense Net "profit" UND $3,596,366 $2,075,293 $1,521,073 OSU $1,051,923 $2,363,322 <$1,311,399> Which situation would you rather put yourself in? Yeah, OSU spends a lot of money on their hockey program, but they lose $100,000 a month doing so. With colleges cutting expenses nowadays, I think I'd rather stay around a program that makes money.
  22. OSU's organizational support of hockey is suspect, at best. I wish the best for Cary, but I don't think this would be a good move for him.
  23. The key, obviously, to any player's development is ice time. It is too bad Fienhage didn't get more shifts last year. He filled in nicely, I think, this year in an emergency kind of role. If his goal is the NHL, he needs more shifts, wherever that might be. It is also obvious that UND has too many defensemen on the roster. Something
  24. I think Knight might get a hard look at centering next year. IIRC he played center in either Okotoks or midgets. I really like this kid. Wasn't he called in a year earlier than planned?
  25. Fans of every team save one have all summer long to rant and commiserate over season-ending losses. Fans of 42 teams have all summer long to feel badly their team didn't make the NCAA tournament. At least we, as UND fans, have good reason to always look forward to next season.
