  1. You’re right, probably talking more about potential. Assuming being an overage who has great numbers with no talk about being drafted that there might be a gap in his game. I know being a bit undersized plays a factor. Probably could work out better for Arizona State, because he might be more likely to stick around. The guys I thought had a bigger upside because of being young and are nice draft prospects are: Carels, Lin, Rudolph, DuPont, Villeneuve, Vanecek, Pantelas, Mackenzie, and even Klimpke, and Pickford, although I believe he has signed with Montreal. Like you, I don’t follow the OHL, but assume there are a few there as well. No doubt Arizona State is getting a guy that could be running their power play for a while, but like I said, so many great players out there so compete level may be a determining factor who becomes a stud, and who is just a bit above average in college. Might be wishing we had a player of his caliber for longer rather than a shorter stint of a guy who takes a year or so to get up to speed, but when they do is signed by their draft team.
  2. I think Button has over emphasized the World Junior Championship in this latest ranking. We have seen that offense is more abundant (and sometimes defense lacking), in that setting. I would take more account on how these guys play against other age groups. We’ve seen guys go off in the World Juniors and have almost as many goals there as they have in the whole college season. Ryan Poehling comes to mind. It should definitely be part of the evaluation, but I would weigh it accordingly. Do you give McKenna points for being a top scorer, or do you weigh the opponent when he got most of his points?
  3. …and Zakreski committed under Berry if I’m not mistaken.
  4. This is why you better get guys that are going to compete hard, because he is a nice recruit, but there are probably 10 or more defenseman in the CHL alone that I would put ahead of him that I would want UND to get. Simply look at the latest 2026 draft rankings to find a ton of high end talent. Will be interesting to see how many actually go the NCAA route.
  5. When you have to question everything now in regards to AI, there should be a mechanism that confirms reality from AI.
  6. Yeah, Central scored very late on a two man advantage. Some very lazy clears by Red River’s defense really hurt their chance to hold on. Marto was very good for Central.
  7. Was expecting a little more offensive production from Grubb, but I think every level of hockey is more competitive with so many development paths available.
  8. This is ridiculous, the NCAA should make these decisions in a timely manner because teams need to be able to have backup plans depending on those decisions.
  9. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=260540 Similar numbers to Adam Gajan and he is going to be playing in the Olympics. Not saying he will or won’t be good at the collegiate level, but as we have seen with judging guys solely by numbers, there are a lot of outliers and different development paths. I would be more worried if the coaches are having concerns, because they are evaluating the play of all of our prospects, but I trust they will do what is best for the program. Don’t want to move on from someone like we did with Stephen Halliday and then regret it.
  10. Heil is goaltender of the week in the USHL.
  11. But while depth is great, sometimes individual performances can be a deciding factor, especially when sometimes 2 goals can win tournament games. I think we have guys that can elevate their games in the post season.
  12. To me, if he was trying to injure him, he would have stayed down and just torpedoed him. It looked like he came back up in an effort to slow his momentum. Who knows?
  13. We saw that pay benefits last night with Zmolek getting a huge goal on the rush and Wiebe scoring a nice one as well. I will say there is a time and place though. No need to go all in when up by 2 and under 5 minutes left, and better know if someone is in position to cover you. We gave up a ton of odd man rushes last weekend which teams with elite talent would have exploited more. Hopefully guys become better at situational awareness when jumping into the rush. Zmolek’s mantra should be that of the Dos Equis guy, “I don’t jump in the rush often, but when I do…”!
  14. Much prefer the guy who did the game on Friday to Landau. “Where Grandma keeps the peanut butter” is old and be reserved for the guy who actually created it.
  15. Denver is #11 at 12-9 record. If we sweep and St. Cloud sweeps next weekend, Denver and St. Clouds records would be almost the same.
  16. St. Cloud has a huge opportunity next weekend to get in the NPI mix, as they are 19 and play #4 Duluth in St. Cloud. Would love if they knock Duluth down a peg.
  17. Huge opportunity to put a rival in our rear view mirror for the most part, as a sweep would put us up 11 points. Really, winning the series would be huge in any capacity.
  18. Yeah, if you review for a major Ben, you can’t give a minor.
  19. So let me get this straight, Minnesota’s penalty killing is 62nd in college hockey, yet Motzko chose to use members of that unit to represent the United States in the same capacity? You were able to pick the team so every aspect of your team would have people who could do that specific job. Mindblowing
  20. If there are that many, it would be because Minnesota doesn’t want them around, or they haven’t been playing much. Don’t think they lose very many that have big upside.
  21. Yeah, if you’re not engaging your defense in the rush in today’s game, you could struggle to get to the magic 3 goals. Goaltending is so good, and defensive systems make it hard to score much without activating the defense. Probably one of the reasons we are one of the top scoring teams in the country without having a bonafide star.
  22. That’s been college hockey forever. That is why the sweep at home, split on the road was always a standard to try win the league title. There isn’t a team like the Miami teams of the past 4-5 years this year. So many good hockey players that aren’t separated by much from night to night. We don’t have a stud like Oshie, Parise or Toews on this team, and they lost to questionable teams. We have guys that will be elite players, but they need a little more experience and consistency in their game.
  23. So you’re saying Denver hasn’t been a good team?
