  1. I would like to see the Sioux look at Stepan Novotny, as he was the player I was most impressed with at the Elite games in Grand Forks. I'm sure they are taking a look, but there are only so many scholarships and with Toews and Nash out there, who knows.
  2. On the Waterloo website it says John Lee is 6'2" 185 lbs. That's pretty decent size.
  3. What are you asking?
  4. I don't care who you play, if you win two from a CCHA team on the road in convincing fashion it is impressive. If the Sioux destroyed a CCHA team like that on the road everyone would be talking about #8. People seemed to be impressed by the Sioux beating Quinnipiac at home by less convincing scores, so why shouldn't Minnesota move up, especially when the Sioux and others didn't look very impressive at home. Oh, and let's remember Minnesota dropped after losing only one game to Maine which included a close contest with an empty netter. Minnesota fans weren't whining about the polls after that. You make the rest of us look like whiners as well, so do us a favor and broach a topic like this when the Sioux win, not because they deservedly drop.
  5. The Sioux missed out on Grant Potulny because they didn't give him a scholarship, and his brother followed him to Minnesota.
  6. Anyone else watch Shattuck while in town last weekend? Wondering if anyone has heard if Stepan Novotny is being recruited heavily. He is a junior, along with David Toews, and both looked extremely impressive. Wisconsin seems to have got a gem in Brock Montpetit. David Carle looked to be the cream of the crop defensively, but I would think he might be predisposed to Denver since his brother Matt had good success both personally and teamwise at Denver. St. Cloud looks like they got a great player in Aaron Marvin who played for Team Great Plains against Shattuck and had a hattrick. Didn't notice Jordy Christian quite as much though, although I have to admit I was focusing a bit more on the Shattuck players. I would bet that many more than a handful of players on Shattuck will be playing DI hockey in the years to come. Let's hope the Sioux can keep the pipeline going and get the cream of the crop.
  7. Tim Hennessey had Chorney as 3rd Star.
  8. Heard Tim Hennessey say that Ron Hextall's kid from the BCHL will be going to UND. He said he is a nasty player. I am sure some word should be coming out soon if this is true.
  9. According to the WCHA media guide he is # 6 on the all-time list for all games, and tied for 5th for just WCHA games.
  10. Might be nice to show that ESPN quote to Craig Bohl. Thats an outside source confirming what North Dakota team holds the spotlight.
  11. Was kind of wondering the same thing. I have a feeling that they determined they were going to get a look at everyone, especially since it was parents weekend, and Miller just was one that was out of the mix. I know this week of practice will tell who will be going to Wisconsin, but maybe Hak wanted to get an extra look at Martens to see if he had the game capacity to possibly be making that trip as well. From what I saw last weekend, I would like to see Bishop, Miller and Forney make the trip and play on the same line. It certainly is nice for Hak to have those options though.
  12. Was that one of the games that they were experimenting with 4 officials? Have no fear, Derek Sheppard will be officiating many games, and my bet is that he will be called upon again for the Sioux/Gopher series in January.
  13. The D.O.T (Department of Transportation) line sounds good. Just hop on board and they'll take the Sioux where they need to go, and give the opponents a ride they won't soon forget. Obviously, they all have the wheels to get it done, and their engines never stop.
  14. So what would your policy be if he did something after he was named Captain? Would you replace him as Captain?
  15. I see they are going to charge this year for taking the shuttle bus and for various parking lots around the Ralph. I know the cost is nothing like it is in Minneapolis, but neither are the wages around here. I would hate to be a homeowner around the Ralph, because people are going to park in the streets even further from the Ralph now. Why aren't they building a parking ramp at the Ralph like they are by the student union? They already have extra season tickets to sell. This could push a few more people over the edge, especially those that don't mind watching in their recliner on cold winter nights. Not me, mind you, but it is frustrating that every single year of the new Ralph, I have found a good parking spot, and without fail, every year they have taken that lot and turned it into a restricted lot.
  16. tnt

    Joe Finley

Small players that come to mind that were great defensemen are Curtis Murphy and Russ Parent. If he turns out to be half the players they were it would be nice. Is Genoway that small, or are there other players that he is being compared to? I agree that the less expectations that are placed on freshmen, the easier it is for them to come into their own without the added pressure.
  17. Thanks! Guess I could have looked at the committment list before posting.
  18. Based purely on being the leading scorer thus far in the BCHL at 17 years old, I wonder if the Sioux coaches are looking at Casey Pierro-Zabotel in their recruiting. Don't know if he has the intangibles the coaches are looking for or not, but let's face it, as fans without seeing someone play, most look at numbers alone. Have to admit, I'm no different, although doing well at a young age seems to catch my eye even more. I know its too early to draw too many conclusions, especially since guys like Trupp and Turris either haven't played, or not played many games.
  19. Isn't that the point? It's rankings based on people who likely haven't even seen some of these guys play. If they had any insight, they would have had Ryan Duncan in the top 20 forwards. It's nice to have players named, but I'm not going to get bent out of shape because they don't have a number of players. As for the person worried about the Sioux recruiting--you really need to have a little more confidence in the coaches that recruit these players, not the so-called experts. I would call your attention to the post concerning character and talent.
  20. If the Sioux ran the ball more, there would have been a number of fans saying that they were being too conservative, and why move away from something that is working. Sometimes I think the offensive coaches can't win. While I share the sentiment that this has a makings for a special team, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Last year the Sioux throttled everyone then ran into one game that changed the confidence level. They never totally got it back again. Let's hope they learned from last year.
  21. Have to agree with Bucky Sieve on one thing, the ratings don't always turn out to be very accurate. When you have Skille, Rau, Raymond, and Wheeler ahead of Toews at #9, and all of those and Stoa above Oshie at #16, how can anyone be upset about such a speculative and uninformed "guess"? Remember Wes Dorey, who was supposed to be the big-time recruit. Seems to me a little dynamo named Panzer was the star of that freshman class. Can't wait to see if there are any Panzer's that surprise in this years class.
  22. I think what most people are saying is that it is on the ice that talent, or lack thereof will be proven. From what I understand, Lucia is talking about the need to rethink the recruiting strategy to have more four year players around, at least more evenly distributed. To look at it through rose-colored glasses, maybe the Sioux are just ahead of the game in that regard.
  23. Seems to me like 2000 is part of this century.
  24. Maybe a better way to put it is that Wisconsin is a little more structured and maybe not quite as aggressive on the offensive end. You play to your strengths. That being said, I think the Sioux have become a little more structured in terms of their forecheck since Hakstol took over, while keeping the aggressive attitude.
  25. Parents tend to be a little biased when it comes to their children. Some are downright messed up. To the outsider looking in, how can you possibly not realize how good Parise was down the stretch of his career. Don't believe anyone would have done anything with the goaltending situation any different than what the coaches did, unless of course they have a reason to be biased.
