    Games like the last two are how apathy starts to set in to the fan base. This on the heels where there was euphoria after the NDSU win. Pardon the pun, but after that win, they needed to grab the bull by the horns. Where has that in your face mindset that was quite evident in the NDSU game been?

    That’s what I was thinking. Didn’t know if they thought the game was over and they could run another trick play or what. Just lucky they didn’t return that mess up for two points of their own.

    It scares me to think that Bubba and their coach talk all the time about play calling. Maybe we should be taking advice from guys with a winning program. Also,when we went for two is that what the numbers say, rather be up by 13 rather than 12, or is it because we don’t trust our field goal unit?

    Needs to live to play another day in his own end and just inside the opposing blue line though, when a turnover can create a breakaway. Riverboat gambling doesn’t go over well in the NCAA tournament and in the NHL, so needs to start adjusting now.

    A lot of that was based on last year, so this gives them the chance to create their own identity and get the new defensemen up to speed without the ranking as a distraction and just another bullseye. I don’t care where we are rated early either, so long as we are getting better. Very unlikely you hold a lofty position like that the whole year anyway, especially with the parity this year.

    So the gopher saints have two cheap shots in a matter of seconds, both of which should be majors.

    Didn't he get suspended or disciplined for something though, and that is the part of the story that was speculative. I remember Virg Foss speculating jokingly that he took the Zamboni on to University Avenue. Don't recall much beyond that.

    Just wonder after all of these years of poor road showings what prompted him to all of a sudden say it is on him. Does he feel the sentiment building that this isn't just a one off situation, but something that should have been fixed by now? Certainly it is on the players as well, but at some point you have to recruit players that hate losing at anything they do, and that don't need to be coddled when they don't show up. I guess I don't have first hand knowledge, but Bubba just doesn't seem like a guy that lights a fire under the guys or lights them up when they fail to compete and focus. Probably need some more players that can self motivate if that is the case.

    Guess I would buy tickets to watch my favorite team win. You must have a lot of faith in the gophers to get there again.

    Personally, I don't think any team is going to be close to unbeatable this year. I think this may be the most wide open NCAA tournament in years, and that is saying something.

    Just saying you have 3 guys that were in Minnesota's lineup that accounted for 30 goals their last year of juniors in 135 games, and a guy that wasn't in UND's lineup that accounted for 23 goals in 50 games.

    I think UND is just as deep as Minnesota, especially at forward. When you have a 4th round draft pick sitting in Jackson Kunz, that is saying something. Also, when you look at Junior numbers, guys like Pinoniemi, Mittelstadt, and Strobel weren't exactly world beaters. Of course numbers aren't the be all end all, but our forward depth is pretty good.

    Probably more of a mess because of the outcome, but I can think of 3 or 4 chances that would most likely result in goals in most circumstances. Close was great and probably stole a couple, which would give us about 20%. Winning the draw was huge on those power plays where we did get chances.

    The fact that they gave Snuggerud the penalty for boarding when it was clearly Chesley was strange. How do both refs miss that when they weren’t both in the same area. I’m sure Minnesota was fine with Chesley being able to kill the penalty rather than be in the box, which I’m sure is why they didn’t complain. Surprised UND coaches didn’t call it out.

    There were several occasions where UND defensemen were patient and held onto the puck rather than blindly throw it up the boards. They still have work to do with the forwards not turning the puck over trying to make that extra play inside the blue line at both ends where it causes outnumbered situations, but it has improved from last year.

    The thing with Blake is he is so shifty that defenders think they have a line on him and he jukes, causing defenders to reach. I think Blake would love to stay on his skates and finish out a great play like the goal where he was flying through the air against Holy Cross, or was it Quinnipiac. He forces quick reactions from defenders, which is why he draws so many penalties.
