    Didn't he get suspended or disciplined for something though, and that is the part of the story that was speculative. I remember Virg Foss speculating jokingly that he took the Zamboni on to University Avenue. Don't recall much beyond that.

    Just wonder after all of these years of poor road showings what prompted him to all of a sudden say it is on him. Does he feel the sentiment building that this isn't just a one off situation, but something that should have been fixed by now? Certainly it is on the players as well, but at some point you have to recruit players that hate losing at anything they do, and that don't need to be coddled when they don't show up. I guess I don't have first hand knowledge, but Bubba just doesn't seem like a guy that lights a fire under the guys or lights them up when they fail to compete and focus. Probably need some more players that can self motivate if that is the case.

    Guess I would buy tickets to watch my favorite team win. You must have a lot of faith in the gophers to get there again.

    Personally, I don't think any team is going to be close to unbeatable this year. I think this may be the most wide open NCAA tournament in years, and that is saying something.

    Just saying you have 3 guys that were in Minnesota's lineup that accounted for 30 goals their last year of juniors in 135 games, and a guy that wasn't in UND's lineup that accounted for 23 goals in 50 games.

    I think UND is just as deep as Minnesota, especially at forward. When you have a 4th round draft pick sitting in Jackson Kunz, that is saying something. Also, when you look at Junior numbers, guys like Pinoniemi, Mittelstadt, and Strobel weren't exactly world beaters. Of course numbers aren't the be all end all, but our forward depth is pretty good.

    Probably more of a mess because of the outcome, but I can think of 3 or 4 chances that would most likely result in goals in most circumstances. Close was great and probably stole a couple, which would give us about 20%. Winning the draw was huge on those power plays where we did get chances.

    The fact that they gave Snuggerud the penalty for boarding when it was clearly Chesley was strange. How do both refs miss that when they weren’t both in the same area. I’m sure Minnesota was fine with Chesley being able to kill the penalty rather than be in the box, which I’m sure is why they didn’t complain. Surprised UND coaches didn’t call it out.

    There were several occasions where UND defensemen were patient and held onto the puck rather than blindly throw it up the boards. They still have work to do with the forwards not turning the puck over trying to make that extra play inside the blue line at both ends where it causes outnumbered situations, but it has improved from last year.

    The thing with Blake is he is so shifty that defenders think they have a line on him and he jukes, causing defenders to reach. I think Blake would love to stay on his skates and finish out a great play like the goal where he was flying through the air against Holy Cross, or was it Quinnipiac. He forces quick reactions from defenders, which is why he draws so many penalties.

    There have been many times where UND has looked totally lost and hesitant on the large pond at Mariucci. If you are hesitant against that kind of speed on that ice surface, you’re going to always be chasing rather than be on the offensive. Thankfully, when the rivalry renews, that won’t be an issue anymore. On the other hand, Minnesota won’t have to make as much of a transition when it comes to tournament time.

    Got to put a big rivalry win to the side and sweep Minnesota State, so we have momentum going into BU series.

    After watching the last two weekends, it will be fun to see the outcome of the Minnesota/Wisconsin games next weekend. I think that rivalry can be much less predictable again, and could see that getting pretty heated.

    You do run the risk of a satisfied feeling that needs to be put to bed after a day. Don’t know if that was the case or not, as everyone said they turned the page. Then you have to ask the question is this UND team good or not. The problem as I see it, is that every time the team get’s to the point they have the University’s, town’s and some national attention they fail to take the next step and sustain it. The fact that NDSU has been able to sustain success over that long and not get overly complacent is amazing. When UND consistently fails to capitalize on the attention they have garnered from a big win, I think it makes it that much harder for the fan base and possibly even potential recruits to buy in. At some point you have to take the next step or figure out what needs to be done to do that.

    They said it was a salute to the fans, and the way our fans yo yo, I’m not so sure our fans are worthy. It kind of gets me that the stick salute has become some sacred thing when it was copied from none other than Minnesota. I think they have done salutes without sweeps in the past as well. Maybe we should create our own thing and have the players ride a broom down the ice, then doing it without a sweep would really look egregious.

    Anyone know if Matvei Gridin is a college hockey candidate. A 2006 leading the USHL in points. Plays on a team with Boisvert and Croal, so I assume the coaches have seen him play.

    Nice to have a teachable moment in a win. I was wondering myself about that play.

    He came back, but didn’t notice him playing down the stretch. I was surprised Benoit was playing down the stretch, and then was looking for Zmolek. Benoit certainly didn’t look out of place. Nice we could get it done without Pehrson and Zmolek and a non-existent power play.

    Did anyone say anything about Zmolek? Would be a shame if he missed the series against his old team.
