  1. Berg, Schmaltz, Jamernik and OMac have all played center, but with the 9-3 mindset you mentioned do you put either Schmaltz or OMac at a different position to have them at a spot higher in the lineup? The way it sounds, I wouldn't be surprised to see Albrecht and possibly a few other players split time early, so maybe Emerson could be splitting time early. If Albrecht is looking good early like Schlossman said, I would guess he might see some more time in the big games where a veteran presence could help. So with the competition level both at defense and forward, what position do you use to fill the extra spot in the lineup each night? If Berg is centering Blake and Gaber, is line 2 either Schmaltz or OMac, centering Perron and James?

    Is P.J. Fleck’s job safe?
  3. But he is in the "If you build it, they will come" mode!
  4. Mitchell Mattson, and of course Mitchell Miller, although the latter made it to campus.
  5. Brendan Lemieux is another one that bolted.
  6. Agree, because just like parents, coaches can't know what's going on with their kids 100% of the time. Many times they can only react properly once issues arise.
  7. So Hakstol was culpable for this? https://thehockeynews.com/news/pro-prospects-must-play-with-caution
  8. To me, if you can’t stretch the field with your wide receivers, you have to keep the defense honest every once in a while by quarterback runs when the pocket is collapsing. Having to deal with a quarterback that takes those 5 yards or many times a lot more gives the defense one more thing to worry about. Some teams make a living from their quarterbacks scrambling for first downs.
  9. To take the next step, they need to beat one of the Big three on our schedule. Two more chances.
  10. Thankfully, the postgame interview says there are a lot of correctable mistakes. But in the same token, they have been correctable for years.
  11. Taking timeouts, really Bubba! Can’t wait to hear his postgame, saying we can’t make those mistakes.
  12. Well, if we are allowed to make 15 or so mistakes, I think the refs should have a little room for error as well.
  13. At least with the early start, we still have some Saturday afternoon for less frustrating leisure.
  14. Bubba going to make it look like he still wants to win by going on fourth down, but clock management suggests otherwise.
  15. UND happy just to stay with 3 scores. Really?
  16. Exactly! A long field goal anyway, and even if they make it, you are still within two touchdowns. Mistake after mistake. You don’t win big games with a half dozen or more big mistakes and missed opportunities.
  17. I wish I would see a little pissed off emotion, just to know they are still into it.
  18. That’s what I think, especially when first down didn’t gain. If we want him to be a game manager, then he needs to run and give us manageable 3rd downs when there is room to run. I would rather he fumble moving forward than getting it swatted away scrambling in the pocket.
  19. Kind of surprised that we are ranked that high by others considering we don't return any defensemen, but I guess if they can gel together, the talent is certainly there.
  20. I'm guessing some have changed as things have become more analytical over the years. I am sure there are some base tests that have remained constant.
  21. No, but it’s another thing to think that those few plays didn’t give UND a bit of cushion that kept NAU just out of reach. But that’s what good teams do, make the plays necessary, and capitalize when the other team doesn’t. Let’s be honest, if we were on the other side of those plays we would be pointing to them as turning points that kept us behind the eight ball.
  22. I don’t know, if NAU doesn’t turn the ball over down deep in the first half, and give us the two point conversion, I think the third and fourth quarters play a lot differently.
  23. I am not part of the consensus, especially when it comes to big schools. We have seen in other sports that some of these programs are of the mind that if you aren't cheating you aren't trying. I would hate for a sport like hockey, which has always been fairly good at playing by the rules, to be dragged into the cesspool that has been NCAA basketball and football. But ultimately if there could be money involved, I imagine a lot of these schools may be entering the picture, so as stated, UND better have a plan in place to be competitive with the changing environment.
