Woe to the sinners that leave the UND hockey team. May a blight be put on your kin for generations.
-
A lot of talent between those two players, but neither one fought through contact and were turnover machines. Hopefully they find a couple guys with offensive upside and are hard to play against to replace them. Have to believe the coaches were aware of both of these departures ahead of time.
-
I would assume the GM counts as an assistant, otherwise why wouldn't every team just call a guy the GM.
-
So let me get this straight, the 1883 Collective people are working harder than the coaches at trying to secure talent for the future?
-
Would be interesting to know when the scouts and coaches expressed UND's lack of appearance on the recruiting trail to the Herald. If this has widely been known for a while, will it stay under wraps if the same issues remain under the new staff? Also, is this stuff not even in the wheelhouse of the Athletic Director or administration? I would think they should know how often coaches are out on the recruiting trail.
-
But did Berry prevent Jackson from going out recruiting? It is easy to say you disagree with something to get a job, but did he go out of his way to touch base with recruits on his own. I guess we will never know, but if he keeps all the same assistants, instead of bringing in an assistant known for recruiting, then we may have our answer. I am much more upset about the state of the program now learning this, and frankly I am surprised Schlossman didn't keep that information in his lock box.
-
Sounds to me like the culture of UND was a culture of laziness! Makes you wonder on all the players that UND missed out on by not being proactive and talking to these high end recruits in person, and touching base with their coaches and advisors.
-
Sounds to me by that last bolded statement, that UND has leaned on their past tradition for recruiting and got fat and happy. If that is the case, why would you not go in a new direction with a younger coach with a passion to get out there and find talent? Since this appears to be the case, I don't know how you don't at least turn over most of the assistants and start fresh. When Junior coaches and NHL scouts are saying these things, it is no wonder why the brand name of North Dakota hockey has fallen so much, and the administration appears to be blinded to it, because they are just going to remain status quo. This is a major indictment on Berry, and if Schlossman can't see the reason for making a change now, then he is too blinded by his involvement.

Berry, or Jackson? -
Sounds like Minnesota is losing Connor Kurth as well.
-
Except they might not be playing for Carle.
-
Will be interesting to see if Duluth loses guys to the portal, because I think they have a decent nucleus with the Plante brothers, Menghini, and Shaugabay along with some others, including Gajan in goal.
-
Personally, if Perron is leaving, Shaugabay would be a decent skilled replacement, and if Pilgrim is still in the plans, they already have some chemistry for a year down the road.
-
I think we didn’t do that enough to live another day. How many times did they turn it over instead of getting it out of the zone — Strathmann.
-
Someone on GPL says they heard a rumor that Ralph and a UMD forward to UND, but waiting to see if the UMD forward hits the portal to determine if the rumor has legs. Could just be trolling UND fans. Will be interesting to see though if a viable UMD forward hits the portal. Shaugabay? With how many defensemen we have now with Laurilla, it seems odd, unless some hit the portal.

Yeah, no reason not to take a wait and see approach. From what it sounds, a fresh coach would most likely have been starting with a rebuilding year, and there is no guarantee they would have succeeded in that either. It’s possible they could improve substantially next year under Jackson, and if they don’t, we might be back at the same place 3 years down the line, which is probably the same timeline for a complete rebuild anyway. Let’s see how it works out before the pitchforks come out.
-
With this line of thinking, we could very well have 5 or 6 fewer National Titles, because no Gasparini, probably no Blais, and so on. Maybe Harkness could have worked out, but what did Harkness do after they gave Gino the job?
-
Guess time will tell. Haven’t heard Fohr on a bunch of short lists for jobs, but who knows.
-
Good point, we all look at the recruits like Zellers, and Mac Swanson coming in, and inevitably some guys unexpectedly make a bigger impact then we anticipate. Who would have thought Littler would produce 7 goals despite being in and out of the lineup? Curious to see if Klee can use his size effectively at the college level as well.
-
I am hoping one thing Jackson brings is that best players play, and that all things being equal, the player with the biggest upside plays. Who knows how many games that alone could change, nevermind a more aggressive mindset.
-
So in the same sense, Berry was under Hak, so things should have continued? I hope Jackson uses all the tools and knowledge from Hak and other people he knows in the hockey world and takes the best of each. New assistants could help bring new ideas, fresh perspective, and a closer relational tie to the players.

They use everything as a slur. How many times did I hear Sioux suck, or Sue this, or something of the sort.

That would be a hit to SIOUXFAN97’s narrative about Denver’s current assistants as the answer for our new head coach. -
We care about the planet!

Yes, the fact that the freshmen and underclassmen led this team the second half while like you said the seniors were underwhelming gives me hope for growth.
