NDSU can afford FBS because they have more big donors and untapped student fees they can draw from. UND doesn’t seem to have the big football donors that can afford to take UND to the FBS. Champions Club is a big sign of the difference.

I think UND is maxed out on state funding and student fees. The money needed to go to the FBS has to come from donors or increased income from football attendance etc. UND would need the fans support that NDSU gets. NDSU cannot afford FBS without their big donors as their tickets, teammakers, etc. is maxed out.

Don’t students vote on the fee allocation part??

Tucked casually into Tom Miller’s Fall Cap Day 4 recap was this observation. FWIW, I’ve observed good defensive trends, as well, in my limited early looks at this year’s Hawks:

    • The defense disrupted more plays than usual Saturday with pressure at the quarterback. Jaelen Johnson, Josh Navratil and Devin Hembry all had quarterback "sacks" in the non-contact team drills.

Still a lot to be determined if these are sustained trends and or flashes in the pan. Whether it’s  a simplified playbook or chip on their collective shoulders or both, it’s encouraging. All that said, the defensive side of the ball usually comes out of the gates faster in fall camp and the O plays catch up. And Depth at linebacker is still a concern. However a few young LBs have come in with the right body types and are vying to play sooner than later.

    Buckle up!

The encouraging part is we have a ton returning on offense so the defense coming out of the gate faster should a bit tougher to do.   Hopefully a sign of good things to come

No one complained about last years team not having D1 talent. People were actually very happy that we finally had D1 level players on the roster.

Now, people were complaining about the 2021-2022 team because that was MAYBE an average NSIC team trying to play D1 basketball. I think you are a little confused on your years man.

I’m not the one who is confused.  Plenty of posts during game threads and in the coaching thread about some players on the team and how our roster was made of D2 players because that is all the staff could recruit.  Guessing plenty on this board will back me on reading those comments.

Not sure what @SiouxBoys and @SD UND have against Daniel Hong that they would downvote my post about Hong getting a scholarship..... odd behavior from "UND fans"

From everything I have heard from his teammates and other people, he is a great teammate and a great practice player. If we can't find anyone else that is scholarship worthy to come to UND then I don't see why you wouldn't reward Hong with a scholarship.

You spent the season posting about how the coaching staff had a roster that was not D1 talent and now you just want to give up a scholarship ship to a player that is a great practice player and is not even halfway into his career.

That may be the reason for the down votes

In the Strathmann (Youngstown) vs. Swanson (Fargo) series: Youngstown won last night 4-1 over Fargo.

Neither Strathmann nor Swanson registered a point. Swanson's line--Cole Knuble (Notre Dame), Bret Link (Colorado College), and Mac Swanson (UND)--was a -3 on the night. Youngstown's goalie, Jacob Fowler (Boston College), saved 29 of 30 shots.

Game 2 tonight at Scheels Arena, 6pm.

I’m not a great hockey mind but thought Strathman looked really good.  Had a very aggressive style and is skilled with the puck.

Fun to watch the two of them.  Tickets are $10 and kids 12 and under are free for the playoffs.  Great entertainment.

I’d argue the best thing you can do for your staff is not handouts like Bubba is doing, but rather actually winning and then moving to a bigger program. See Craig Bohl to Wyoming and Chris Klieman to Kansas State. Now those resulting promotions are what helps the assistants …

As someone else mentioned on here, UND football should *not* be the final destination for head coaches. It clearly is right now for Bubba, and that breeds the program’s staleness.

Do you think Bubba and the staff would not accept a FBS offer if it came?

We’re talking about recruiting, no need to bring a 22 year old kids problems outside of basketball into it. DAE had 20-30 d1 offers out of high school. We won that recruiting battle.

I’d say he opened the door to bringing up his problems when he chose to give his opinion on UNDs coaching situation.

News flash UND doesnt win any recruiting battles with any teams in the summit.  That is the problem.  I get if the kid doesnt want to come to a losing team at UND.  BUT it would still be nice to see that UND was on the list of schools trying to recruit a North Dakota kid.  Shows we have interest in our local talent.   I guess we will be happy getting the Doppler's of ND.

Are you certain that UND didn’t reach out?
