Via X (Twitter) it's easy to see that every school is losing grad transfers, and soon underclassmen athletes to the portal again this year. It's silly to fuel panic attacks on fan sites. UND might need to change its mindset on how to recruits through the portal, which seems to be they are very selective, but it's the new reality.

The crazy thing will be when (not if) a starter whose team is still playing in FCS playoffs leaves and enters the portal.  With early signing day Dec 20th they are potentially leaving money on the table if they wait until January.

For the record, it’s not because I believe NDSU is the 2nd most talented roster. Winners win, losers lose. It’ll be non-competitive in Vermillion next weekend.

Their WRs are making plays and they are playing really good complimentary football.  It will be tough for USD to beat them again.

What level will McNaboe play at?

Again only my opinion- I think he’s an impact player in the Mountain West conference.  Could see some bigger opportunities but the injury doesn’t help him

Sarcasm.  No sh&$ Sherlock.  There is no way to spin his defending bubba.  Players see it. Fans see it.  You and a few others on here are blinded that we have a saban.  ( sarcasm) Bubba is not head coach material.     Bubba can’t be defended anymore .  Yet you defend any and every opposition angle.  Why defend average so hard  ??    You are simply missing the point.   Try and back up your big mouth with any kind of stat , fact or reason why he should continue to be head coach..  I and others have laid stats and reasons why he isn’t coach worthy on this site.  You on the other hand are constantly telling people they are missing the  point.  Give me something to ponder.

I’m not defending anyone but there has yet to be a player that left that truly surprises me.

These are all my opinions- Two of them are going to get paid and have a chance at playing a higher level of football.  One I believe the coaches had a difficult conversation and were honest with a player.  One will transfer and likely not get as much playing time as he got here.

His point is that bubba and saban are on equal ?

I said…IMO….players leave und because of coachingz. Bubba doesn’t better them on the field.  Saban does.

Jalen hurts transferred because Tua was out performing him.

McNaboe transferring is not because someone is out performing him.  He would have started next season.

Is that why  you piped in? To say there is no difference between the two ?   #18 left because he is better built to play DE in a 4-3 and he puts up much better numbers next year.

What if he left because he’s better built to play DE in a 4-3?

What if he left cause of NIL?

it’s unfortunate UND is the only team to lose starting players to the transfer portal

Not necessarily.  Saban is 11 years older than bubba.  Saban has “it”. He can motivate and demands excellence. Bubba doesn’t.  He’s stale.  He’s boring.  Doesn’t exude any confidence.  Players respond accordingly

Saban has never lost anyone in the transfer portal.

Grad transferring means they are focused on their graduate level education. They transfer based on where the best grad program is that fits their needs. No need to black helicopter it.

Or likely aware that he can get up to 6 figures going elsewhere.

Who doesn’t think that coaches go home after a game and think to themselves what the hell was bubba thinking with that play call

im sure it happens but I have no proof and they wouldn’t share on twitter

Wasn’t aware Bubba calls the plays.

You’re being dumb. So many things go into a players decision to play for a school. Get real dude

More than just players talking about coaches?

NIL opportunities from FBS are probably a big one.  I expect Ben will get opportunities.   His frame is better built for a program that runs a 4-3

Seems like he took a step back this year for whatever reason. Really thought he was gonna be really solid this year. Hopefully he gets his mojo back.

He was up and down.  Had some really, really good games and some head scratchers.  Lack of pressure up front really doesn’t help a CB.

Still like the crew coming back if we retain all 4

After hearing Wes pull all of his UND posts and put back up USD stuff, I had a feeling this might be the roughest transfer portal season for us. Seeing Kilty was a gut punch initially, but given his situation and having a degree I think he likely would have transferred even if we made it to the Championship game. Great opportunity for him.

I think top FCS lineman will always get plenty of offers in the portal, might be hard keeping the really good ones in the future. We all know it starts up front and what FBS team isn't going to want to add a solid fit on the OL.

Glad Bo is staying, him returning was nice to see just to have him back, but also to show others on the team that it's worth sticking around. That said he gets 50 percent of the passes thrown his way, which is both good and bad. He won't get that many passes thrown his way almost no matter where he goes.

I will be on pins and needles every time I see a new post come on on this thread, I think there will be a few other semi big names that hit the portal.

I don’t see it being that rough.  I understand Wes’ frustration.  Lots of talent with limited opportunities.

Plenty of recent examples of players that left UND to go sit on the bench at FBS schools.  Keeping players around is as much on the team as it is the coaches.

  12. I know I’ll get jumped on as accepting the same old but this is exactly why the bigger schools wanted the transfer portal.   You hope not to lose them but it’s going to happen, just can’t be full turnover on the OL.

I would have been frustrated if I were him.

Not taking sides but it’s not like he didn’t have opportunities to make some plays this year.  Don’t know enough about spring and fall camp to know if he should have had more.

100% this.. Tommy/Danny regressed this year for some reason... If you throw out the games against the lower teams the offense did not produce outside of the NDSU game and maybe the Northern Arizona game.  The offensive identity/template this year for success was pounding the rock.. just like the NDSU game.  This is why Im down on Danny this year and not sold on him as head coach of the future.. Tommy was what he was, if you werent willing to give somebody else a try then pound the rock.  If we do that yesterday we win that game even with the poorest showing by UND defense Ive just about ever seen. (Yesterday is still on the defense)

I can see what Danny was thinking to start the 4th……I’ll run playaction, catch them off guard and move the ball.  Problem is as a team we want to score there but not score quick.   Nothing wrong with what we had been doing to that point, pound the ball…..5 minute drive and get them the ball back with 10 minutes left and hopefully behind.  It just changes things.   Commit to 4 down territory from there in and statistically, we can run the ball down the field.   Offense needs to compliment the defense and the staff should know that.

Team always goes into them with no expectation to win. Pathetic leadership.

I don’t think that true.   That may be your assumption but I truly believe the team expects to win.

Unlikely they figure it out now at this point. This type of blind hope - not from you but the administration - is hurting UND football more than anything

    Fair point.

  17. This teams lacks an identity.

Offensively- everyone can see we are at our best when we pound the ball but we have an OC that can’t commit to it and gets impatient.  I made mention to my brother today at the game the worst thing that could have happened to us was the 4th quarter break when we had the ball at the 50.  Gave Danny too much time to think instead of sticking with what was working and sure enough the next two plays we take two sacks on the same simple pressure from the defense.

Defensively- what are we.  We aren’t “bend but don’t break”, we aren’t “physical”, we don’t get there when “we bring pressure”.  I don’t know what we are supposed to be.

The staff needs to figure it out and go find the talent through the portal if it’s not on the roster.  I think one side of the ball has a lot of pieces in place already but they need to determine how they get better.

The regression after they thumped the Bizen will forever bother me.  After that game you would have thought the program was taking another step and a deep playoff run was possible.

The coaches let that game become the season.  They never recovered from the biggest win in years....

Back into the playoffs, give up half a hundred, confuse the hell out of the fan base by not pounding the ball when that's where you're having success.

    Please make some moves....somebody....please.

Not sure why we seemed to not want to commit to that as our offensive identity.  Most frustrating part of the season.

2020/2021 spring season with several asterisks next to it, but it did happen. Still signified major road woes, as per usual.

Good thing it’s a home game today so we can dump the road woe !@#$ until next week.

try enjoying the day once without bringing up everything negative.
