  1. :D:D:lol:

Its funny how the guy who caused all the problems down there is held on his kings throne and the guy who is having to fix all the problems and repair relationships is drug through the mud.

I bet the next president can't wait to take office and now not have every move watched by the SBoHE but also get torn apart by a publication that is usually reserved for athletics and is available at gas stations throughout the city.

  2. Hopefully this will get this thread back on to the subject at hand...

STANDING ROCK NICKNAME SUPPORTERS SUBMIT PETITION FOR BALLOT MEASURE

They have 1,004 signatures on the petition!! The total voter turnout last September was 1,900, so this looks promising.

Charles Murphy said his office will start to verify the names on Tuesday, and if they check out, his staff will draft a resolution to bring to the Tribal Council early next month.

Back on track. This is good news for the nickname.

  3. fixed your post

You wanna make any bets about there being any upsets during the next couple days of the tournament? If there is I'll make a bet with you about which game will lead off Sportcenter, the upset game of the NCAA tournament or any hockey or baseball game you choose.

My point was your never going to get the kids to be better than a bottom 20 team in the NCAA without a chance to play in the tournament.

  4. But the hockey fans claim that the nickname and "80 years of tradition" are being thrown away just so that basketball can get into the Summit.

It's a worthless, emotionally based argument, but it's what's being parroted at the hockey watercoolers.

It is emotional Mpls. You don't really have a dog in the fight so its real easy for you to write what you want. I honestly don't read your comments cause your writing without fully understanding it.

I completely understand it from both sides and I know that everyone has their own stance on the issue. I also understand how poor our basketball teams where this year but I'm realistic and only expect it to get worse until something is figured out. Not much a coach can do when he's got the deck stacked against him recruiting. I used to be all for the name and wanted to keep it at all costs. My view has changed as I started to understand how it is affecting all sports.

  5. I like basketball, I play basketball, my men's league basketball teams are very dominant in Grand Forks. I simply do not see the Summit League

as the absolute goal. I've never been on a pair of ice skates, but living in Grand Forks one is exposed to the best hockey in the country year in and

year out. Not only Fignting Sioux hockey, but Rider hockey, Knights hockey, Green Wave hockey, and also, Warrior hockey and Ram hockey. I also go

to Sioux basketball games on a regular basis, so I am quite aware of the sorry state of the men's basketball program at this point in history, now the women's

team is at least respectable, but the men, really. So I don't see the rush to get into the vaunted Summit...

The rush is pretty simple. Walk into any living room of any high school player in the country and tell him that he will have no chance to play in the NCAA tournament and watch his reaction.

Than walk in and tell him he will have a chance to play in it if he wins his conference championship and watch his reaction.

If we continue to play in this Great West with no chance at the NCAA tournament we won't get the kids we need to turn that "sorry state of mens basketball" around. The Summit will at least give us a chance. Its really not fair to ask Coach Jones to fix Fighting Sioux basketball but not put him on a level playing field recruiting the type of athletes we need to fix it. The NCAA tournament is what kids that play basketball dream of playing in.

  6. I was at Friday's game only, and the crowd seemed pretty good. Those of you who were there both last night and Friday.......how did the 2 nights compare?

Friday night was the first time I have ever witnessed the bars completely empty during the first period. The bartenders where standing around for the whole period. It was pretty awesome.

Last night was fun as well. A few in the bar but for the most part the crowd was into it as well. I was a little worried about 20 minutes before th game but the Ralph filled up and the fans where awesome. Loud down the whole time. I would maybe give the overall edge to Sunday night. When we where killing off the 5 minute penalty that place was loud and stayed that way for the rest of the game. That kind of got everyone going.

  7. Looking again at UND home schedule for 2010, really sadder than I thought. Not one game that I would drive up from the Twin Cities to see. Easier to go to Northern Illinois or USD. The Alerus will be short of customers again this year I fear.

I should be at all games but Northwestern St. Sure the schedule isn't perfect but its better than the last couple years. Southern Utah is much improved and gets better every year and UC Davis is a nice home game. I think if the football team is improved which it should be and wins games, I see much better crowds and support than last year. I think next year will the start of some fun years with UND football. Its going to be a young but very athletic team.

  8. Where does "Whiskey Joe" come from?

There's a colloquial usage of the disparaging phrase on this board, but I've never read anything about Chapman having any alcohol related problems. Maybe he does and I just didn't read those articles.

But if not, then the continued usage of it is very childish and discredits anyone who is pretending to be an unbiased, factual source of information about Chapman's unethical actions.

It comes from the same place as all the nicknames bison fans have for Roger Thomas. Grow up.

  9. Chapman, it appears, had significantly abused his position regarding following policy and spending money. In the end, it seems he was ruling by intimidation and threats. As to this not being a state issue....it sure as hell is.....who owns NDSU, other than the State of North Dakota. Some of the stuff I read from Mpls Bison is so stupid and off base it just leaves one scratching his head.

Hanson has had some damn difficult stuff to deal with. But, it seems like he manages to stick his foot in his mouth with the media on frequent occasions. He surely is not my choice for President, but, I sure have to acknowlege that he is in a difficult position dealing with tough issues. I would also bet that when the audit is complete we find more damning behavior uncovered on the part of Chapman. I like Joe. He was a great leader, but in the end, his behavior failed NDSU.

By the way.....You guys should just figure out that life is more pleasant with out Mpls. shooting his mouth off....I can't believe you haven't banned him yet. Listening to the crazies is entertaining for a while......but then just gets nauseating....???

    Well put sir, well put.

  10. Can I just ask one question here: lets say that NDSU had been doing a lot of bad things in the past, unethical leadership, whatever....now that the new president is uncovering this issues and is being upfront about them with the public and being proactive about fixing those issues and the image of NDSU....are you guys really going to sit on here and still hate NDSU for what the past administration did?

IE, "ah HA! we knew all along there was a bunch of crap going on! I hate NDSU now more than ever!"

    Really?

Is there no hope what-so-ever to forgive and forget and move on with a new partnership? Or has the damage been done and the bridge burnt to the ground? You'll never respect NDSU or want to partner with them no matter how open and ethical the new leadership?

I'm sure if roles where reversed all would be forgotten by the bison faithful. The past administration of UND still takes all the blame for the games coming to an end so to answer your question, you bet I am going to hate on Chapman and his boys for the way they broke rules and spent state money. Thats only if they find something.

Until than maybe you should take your preaching to another board.

  11. What you are not comprehending is that all of your numbers are nothing but speculation. What causes you to believe that UND holds that much value that all prices can be raised just because UND is on the schedule again? You are not part of the administration and you are not involved in anything with the athletic department. You can throw all the numbers you want out and make it sound like it is nothing but a win-win. The rivalry was big and continues to be off the field of play but just because you are UND doesn't make you the greatest thing that can happen to NDSU. If the program starts winning games again the seats will be filled and prices will continue to increase annually. I've noticed that the price of season tickets at the Alerus have dropped in price for two seasons in a row now to the point where I can pick one up for $40.00. UND needs help filling the Alerus and NDSU has been bringing in decent numbers. It's not really smart to come to the negotiating table needing help and start making demands.

I have to agree with the others. No one is saying that ndsu needs UND or vice versa but if you think that you won't get more per ticket for that game and still actually sell out, not the sell outs that we saw in those other pictures earlier, your kidding yourself. The demand for the ticket will be higher. Your limiting yourself to ndsu fans but have to remember that UND fans will be paying for tickets as well. We get to see it all the time with hockey series and I hate to bring that up but no opponent that you are trying to get to come to the fargodome will bring that kind of fan support that you will be able to sell tickets at a price increase like that. Wagner, Central Conn. or any other team you bring in from out east just dont bring the same type of demand to Fargo that UND will bring. You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think different.

  12. I am not defending it as a great practice and who knows how long he is thinking he needs six home games. I am just defending that he is in fact trying to schedule six home games in the near future. There have been a few problems to get teams to commit to their side of the home/home but have now finally been scheduled. I do know that NDSU needs some facility upgrades soon so having a sixth home game to make more money isn't such a far fetched story right now to me. None of us have solid numbers on anything. We are all just speculating at what things could possibly cost and how much could possibly be made. I don't think anyone at NDSU is intentionally keeping UND off the schedule now at this point. Was the USD deal presented to UND first? I heard that it was but I can't say I know it was for a fact. We have Baseball and Basketball on the schedule and Volleyball is not far behind. It is slowly starting to become a reality again. To me Gene is saying we'll play but we're not giving you what exactly what you want if we don't feel it works for us. NDSU has established their long term goals and if UND doesn't agree to how NDSU thinks they fit into achieving those goals then they will go elsewhere. If UND can make it into the MVFC then all things will be back to normal. I know Youngstown has applied to an FBS conference the past couple of years and if Indiana State can't get things together soon I wouldn't be shocked if their football program disappears like Northeastern or moves on to something that is a better fit for them. Teams move around and I think until UND can get into the MVFC you aren't going to be happy with what NDSU is going to be willing to offer.

    Well put johnson.

  13. The fanbase isn't going to be happy playing a bunch of stiffs in non-conference games every year. It's basically the same thing as when UND used to play Crookston and NDSU used to play Moorhead. The first time or 2 it's amusing to watch your team score a lot of points and dominate the game. Then it gets boring and attendance starts to drop, plus fans complain. I believe that Montana learned that lesson over the past decade. The fans loved all the home games with weak teams for a few years, but then got tired of the blowouts. And now it sounds like Montana has started traveling again for non-conference on occasion.

Or the playoff games that UND had with Winona St.. NDSU fans like to make fun of the last few years of attendance for those games but honestly after years of easy victories against teams like that fans can't be blamed for not showing up.

Also, in regards to Johnson and his schedule a game and fans will come, these pics from one of your own fans don't exactly paint the same picture you are trying to paint. This is one side of the dome and I know the other side, with the students didn't look a whole lot better. Even from the start of the year there are an aweful lot of fans wearing blue to the fargodome.

  14. NDSU is just saying they would like to get 6 home games every year. (perfect world) Gene is just doing what he thinks is best for the athletic dept money wise. If we lock into a series with UND every year it would prevent that. I don't know for sure but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the contract we have with USD was proposed to UND first. Hard to get a contract done when the one party dealing from a lessor position wants to call the shots. Football pays our bills like hockey does yours so don't compare the two programs with the same goals (as far as scheduling). Shawn-O posted last fall that one UND FB game only drew 4,200 (NAIA game I think) Can you imagine what would happen if we only had 4,200 at a FB game or hockey only drew 4,200? :silly:

What exactly makes you feel that UND is in a lessor position? Also, what is so bad about only having five home games every other year? Your still looking for that 6th one now and trying to fill the schedule for next year so obviously teams are lining up to play in Fargo. I'm sure Gene is just looking at a teams resume trying to find out which school is best fit for NDSU and its athletic dept. The closer it gets to the start of the season the more that payout is going to be to get that team to come to Fargo. Face it Dan, Gene is trying to play a hand that isn't really there. If NDSU had six games every year it would be one thing but they rarely do. One side is trying to call the shots and its not Faison or UND.

  15. I wouldn't be surprised at all of USD comes out of the Fargodome with victory. Next year's Bison team will be among one of the worst Bison teams ever to take the field. They'll struggle to win a single conference game and I'd be extremely surprised if they manage even a 4 or 5 win season.

Just like UND, ndsu will be improved from last year. Both teams where young. I don't know what the MVC looks like next year but I know, just like every conference there are some brutal teams in there so ndsu will win a couple conference games.

  16. I would hope there would be a game in both cities. There would be no reason for there not to be. If NDSU said they couldn't work in a road game to Grand Forks that would be really weak. We both play a lot of non conference games and a lot of home games with no one in attendance. I would assume we would playing in both towns. It is truly good gates being missed by both schools. We can both use the money. Faison better stand strong on this issue.

I doubt there will be a game in Grand Forks next year. This will probably be a one game deal and like FargoBison said UND may be in the summit in 2012. If not I'm sure it will be revisited and will be an annual game. At home or on the road this is a good game for UND. Its against a good program and a game that a lot of alumni can get to. Great idea by ndsu or whoever to have it in the dome.
