  1. This confirms that the bozo was only interested in making headlines, not really concerned about the true issue!

Let's bombard him with our thoughts about his handling of all of this. His e-mail address is: acarlson@nd.gov

The thing is if you do send an e-mail don't expect any form of response, (Unless your extremely classy and threaten him in your e-mai. Than it will be front page news and your response will be from the highway patrol. )

I live in Carlson's district and sent him an e-mail before the original vote expressing my concerns as an alumni and former athlete. Didn't get a response via e-mail so I tried placing a phone call and low and behold my message was not returned. I urge people to write well thought out e-mails but don't expect any form of return correspondance unless you are holding a pen or a microphone and can get him some media attention. It really shows what his intentions are in my mind.

  2. This thread needs to veer quickly back to the topic of the 2011 football season.

I appologize for the thread drift guys. Scrimmage looked good today. Bradley looked good. Shaugabay made some good plays as well. Offense as a whole looked impressive. Hopefully its a sign that the offense has improved as they made some plays they didn't make last year. Again, sorry about earlier.

  3. Wow - that would be one of the earliest (if not the earliest) commitment I can remember other than a local recruit who had intentions of playing for the Sioux all along.

If it is a kid from the Cities, it may be one of these that have been offered:

RB Andrew Larson, 5'11, 195, 4.5, Eden Prairie (Eden Prairie), MN Has offer from SDSU

TE Taj Rich, 6'2, 215, Robbinsdale (Cooper), MN

DE Brett Pierce, 6'6, 250, Richfield (Holy Angels), MN Has offer from USD

DT Jonathan Harden, 6', 300, St. Paul (Cretin-Derham-Hall), MN (Rivals 2 Star, Scout 2 Star) Has offers from E MI & W MI

Ath Duke Anyanuwu, 6'4, 200, Blaine (Blaine), MN Has offer from Air Force

Ath DJ Hebert, 6'2, 185, 4.6, Osseo (Osseo), MN Has offers from USD, SDSU & UNI

We have some level of interest in another 15-16 prospects from the Cities.

Whoever it is, it would be nice to get a commitment this early. It is good to land the kid but it may also get the attention of other recruits when someone makes a decision to attend UND this early - it sends a good message.

According to the most recent SFI tweet Taj Rich appears to be the commitment. Good news and thanks for the update guys.

  4. Definately not Lakes. I'm just trying to figure out how last year their was "crazy speed" and now this year picked to finish last. Did they all quit the team or transfer? What ever happened to La Bamba?

See post 171 above to answer you question.

Bamba was kicked off our team. Violated team rules. Our disciplinary actions taken at UND aren't tied to a players talent level like it is a little further south. Thanks for your interest in UND football.

  5. So Mussman says 3 quarterbacks, if not all 4, will likely play in the first three to four games according to SFI...has he lost his mind?

I agree with this. If we don't have a QB who is able to seperate himself from the pack after preseason and a game, we are in trouble. Goska and Hendrickson had their tryout last season and it was hard to watch. I'd give the new guys a shot who are going to be here for 3 and 4 years respectively and see if they are the answer. Let's see what we have an plan for the future.

  6. It,s hard to have any kind of pass coverage when your corners are at least 10 yards off of the receivers

It goes hand and hand with pressure like Sic said. Last year we didn't get any. If the qb has time it doesn't matter if your playing bump at the line or giving a 10 yard cushion, your not sticking with a guy for 4-5 seconds. Someone, will be open. Now the quick one step drop and throw it out the WR at the edge, that I hope to see corrected this season. That had everything to do coverage and the cushion we were giving but it also has to do with some youth and confidence at the corner position.

  7. FSSN is available in every city statewide and has televised many Sioux sporting events in the past. I won't watch a Bison game just cause its on NBC, the casual fan may watch but he may also watch FSSN. I guess I'm failing to see the big deal. Like someone said earlier, their game on FSN and the Big10 Network is a nice get.

  8. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the reasoning behind NDSU getting 3 games broadcast on NBC across the state? Yes I understand they are a better team right now and they made the playoffs last year, but 3 games for NDSU across the state and 0 for UND??? Yes I also understand that we are still in transition and have a horrible schedule this year but this had better change... It is absolutely embarrassing.

There are 3 UND games I can watch here in Colorado. I don't get North Dakota NBC here. Fox College Sports obviously isn't a huge name TV station, but its nationwide and gives alumni a chance to see the team in action from anywhere. Add in our own statewide television station and UND has a television deal that is very good for a school our size. It beats the hell out of 3 statewide broadcast games.

  9. SFI Tweet...

I have heard some really good things about Benny Boyd and the addition he will be to the coaching staff. Welcome to UND Mr. Boyd. We're glad to have you on board.

  10. Tyler Fahey, OLB from Park Ridge, has been offered. Google search has tape

Thanks for the update. That kid plays with a great motor. He'd look very good playing in the 3-4 as he fits the mold of the very athletic LB's we have had in the past and have recruited the last few seasons.

  11. If in fact that North Dakota was spear-heading this idea, or at least one of the leaders throughout it, I'd like to give kudos to our A.D. Brian Faison and our President Robert Kelley. First the the Big Sky Conference, now the hockey "super conference". Their foresight deserves acknowledgement.............

Well said Bin. +1. I couldn't agree more. I know some think that these two don't care about whats in UND's best interest, especially regarding one certain issue, but with them getting us into two great conferences (3 if you include women's swimming to the WAC) and the schedules that Faison has been able to put together for other sports they have been more proactive for UND athletics than the last 2 AD's we've had at UND combined. They are putting out teams in spots where we can be competitive and more importantly they understand the importance of television opportunities and how they can have a positive affect on the school as a whole.

  12. I'm not sure but you can not question that kids desire and love for the game. Those are not bad guys to have on any team as they lead by example. I hope he gets his chance and enjoys every minute of it.

Regarding us needing a DE I was thinking yesterday hopefully the DE out of Waphaton is one of the added recruits to last years class. We are thin and young at that spot and getting someone with some game experience to provide some reps and competition would not hurt. While I think a few of our young guys are very capable, our DL play is so important to the success of our 3-4 scheme.

  13. Others!!!!! Like those former UND presidents and high admins (Clifford/Strinden), legislators and Governors who took for granted that some Sioux Tribe/Band members or PC'ers would never rise up and say anything, and, when they did, the lack of response to the same--that's where it all started and could have been cut off at the pass.

    ++++++

Well said CAS. This is something that should have been addressed years ago. Instead it was always a statement saying we will not change the name so deal with it and nothing was done and no consequences were given. Now, UND is looking for something and faces serious consequences if they don't change it. The current leadership at UND has to do whats best for UND now and going into the future. They are playing with the cards they were dealt by others in the past who did nothing to improve relationships.

  14. Isn't it touching the lengths to which Hansel, Herd and nd1sufan have gone to hide their glee?

It doesn't take much to see how badly they wanted the Big Sky and how happy they would be to see us not in it.

  15. I say this is less about the nickname and more about the other Big Sky presidents not happy about UND coming into the Big Sky alone. In a time when schools across the country are trying to cut expenses, they are not happy traveling to the Eastern Dakotas for one school. If USD had gone with UND, I don't think they would be threatening to deny UND's acceptance to the conference.

There are an awful lot of Presidents in the Big Sky that don't want UND in, and this is the perfect opportunity to get them out.

That is news to me. You must have heard some things that the rest of us haven't. I've actually heard the opposite and more Big Sky presidents have talked about how happy they were to add UND, even if it was alone. Believe it or not but I think this is exactly what the letter said, the Big Sky presidents are afraid of the push back they will get from the NCAA.

  16. I am sure that at the Big Sky meetings of School Presidents that President Bob did his "best" to explain that UND actually has the support of the Spirit Lake Tribe and was given approval by Standing Rock in a tribal ceremony that is binding and irreversable according to their traditions and culture, and that given the chance the current members of Standing Rock would also overwhelmingly give their support of the continued use of the Sioux name, so either the Big Sky Presidents are dense(entirely possible) or Bob has a hard time explaining the facts of the issue effectively(more probable). ;)

You have no idea of how it went down and we can both assume what we want. If Bob laid out the facts, exactly how they stand right now, the current agreements and laws that are in place don't make the NCAA happy. That is the truth and the fault for that can be spread around to a lot of people spread over a number of years. The truth is this is this isn't about making the BSC happy, its about making the NCAA happy, and we've had a few years to accomplish that and haven't. As clearly stated in the letter the BSC is part of the NCAA and there isn't a school in there who is going to ruffle the feathers of the NCAA for the sake of a school who hasn't started conference play yet.

  17. Because that conversation has been said over & over - Try starting your own thread & see how much interest & support it gets - I promise not to post on it or read it anymore

There is still Hope & I will never lose that Hope as long as we still have a chance

    http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090405111238AAQw23U

Nice link. Who's quiting? The school can change the nickname and its not going to affect how I feel about the teams, how many games I go to or my season tickets. All I'm saying is I hope there was a plan B when state legislation was passed. There has been more momentum and interest in all UND sports since the announcement of the Big Sky. There are a lot of examples of that. I don't think being forced to drop the nickname will change that, I personally believe losing the Big Sky will.

I am simply stating its time to move into Plan B or the second phase of the state legislatures plan or the die hard nickname supporter's plan, surely there is one right? I hope plan B isn't just to sit around and wait for a vote that may never happen and badmouth anyone who disagrees with their opinion and see's the importance of conference affiliation if we want the successful, well rounded athletic dept we once had.

  18. The divide & wounds will not heal if the NCAA does not re-examine this - why would they want this when they know how important it is not only to UND & Grand Forks but North Dakota

You pro name droppers for the sake of D1 - go start your own thread & have your minority Fun

Why can't you have a conversation with someone who disagrees with you? Why have them start their own thread? If you thought something like this wasn't going to happen you are lacking vision. Everyone, including the state legislature was warned about this but didn't want to listen. I wish the NCAA would agree to a meeting but in reality they don't have to. When you are the only show in town, you can call your shots. It works that way everywhere in life. Its not always fair, but its the world we live in.

  19. I think it's becoming clearer that the Sioux nickname matter is less about the NCAA - they have already spoken- than it is about conference affiliation and scheduling of games that we really need to be scheduling. I think the timetable for settling the entire issue was just moved up.

    http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/206310/group/homepage/

Agreed. I hope all the state reps who turned this into law had a plan B for when something like this happened. I know they were warned this was a real possibility.

  20. Not a peep out of the Big Sky about UND's nickname.

As stated numerous times before, the Big Sky - nor almost any other league - doesn't care.

The UND nickname was politicized by the Summit League as a ploy by certain parties to delay our membership and harm our transition and DI identity. UND's leadership wanted to gain brownie points among the academic elite and wanted blame directed elsewhere, so they bought into it.

Thank you again Big Sky and Doug Fullerton for delivering us from manipulation.

    Here is the peep.

  21. In the eyes of the NCAA lying to them is far worse than any violation in their volumnous "thoust shalt not" journals.

Your absolutely right and that is what I was getting at. As soon as they found out he lied to them all gloves are off. Even if its Ohio St. there is no way the NCAA is going to let anyone leave egg on their face*.

*They alread do a good enough job of that themselves

  22. I know what I'm about to say will be unpopular so please hear me out before you hit the "negative" comment button. Everybody is saying what a terrible cheater this guy is, and really all he did was turn a blind eye while his players sold equipment and received perks from alumni. Although those things are clearly against the rules it's not like he stole other teams play books or paid off officials. Sometimes I think that the NCAA creates the conditions that encourages players and coaches to break the rules in this fashion.

Mistake #1 was lying to the school and the NCAA. If he would have been honest upfront it wouldn't have looked so bad. Turning an eye is being nice. Its different when a coach sets up meetings with these players and alumni. There is speculaiton that Tressel has done that in the past. Huge difference.
