  1. I would not put them in the top 15, but would put them in the top 25. You saw a team in transition that was decimated with injuries. Before the injuries they beat a top 25 SDSU and had a lead on FCS runner up Montana in the 4th quarter on the road. Last year they had 9 new starters on offense. This year they return 9 starters and added RB Mark Rodgers. They also added Baylor transfer Matt Singletary (Mike Singletary's son) to the d-line, and JC d-lineman Mike Murphy. Last year d-line was the main area they recruited for because of the switch to the 4-3 and they brought in 4 highly regarded prospects who redshirted. They all looked great this spring and will add depth to the d-line. Also Cal Poly's two best d-linemen from 2008 where injured last season. James Chen played the whole season injured and Gavin Cooper sat out the season with a shoulder injury. Both are back and healthy this year.

Thanks for the update Slo. I think the game between UND and Poly will be a good one this year. Our defense is going to be really good and if we can get something from our young receivers we will be much improved on offense. We lost Bamba so that opens the door for our younger receivers to step up and prove themselves. If that happens our team will be very solid. The Great West in general is going to be good. Southern Utah's team has improved so much since UND first played them when we first started our transition. Their coach had a plan to rebuild than and he stuck with it. USD will have a few questions at this year but should be physical like they always are. And as always both California schools are always very athletic and always seem to put solid football teams on the field.

  2. Steele actually has Cal Poly at no. 14 nationally, which seems pretty strange to me considering how much they struggled for most of last season.

Poly had a lot of good athletes last year. I think they are about right where they are at. I chalk last year up more to a solid conference last year. After UND took it to Poly last year their season spiraled a little bit but they still beat SDSU last year and played Montana pretty tough last season. They return some key players and will be tough next season. I'm looking forward to the game out there this year.

  3. Just double your average and you'll about have it. Good luck against the Vandals they might be overlooking you.

Danno, don't you have your own program to worry about? Are you sure Bohl has everything under control there?

  4. The real question is what kind of conference mates are the SU's going to be in the Summit? So the SU's are ready to leave our football programs out to hang. Thanks for being good conference mates. This is what we have to look forward to. If the Summit puts together a good, viable conference then the SU's should be expected to join. If not, go ask the Sky if you can play basketball there.

I really don't get the SU's objection to this. Any proposed Summit conference would be a pretty decent conference. It's not like NDSU is even competitive in the MVFC. They wouldn't even win the proposed Summit Football League.

Don't agree with this at all and I think most understand XDSU's objections to this proposal. Both schools are in a very good spot right now.

  5. No offense Hammer cause I really enjoy reading your answers to tough questions on this message board but the only couple people who have taken Stars postings and quoted them as fact have been yourself and JackJD. I believe the whole thing started as a possible scenario of what could be there. He has never stated that is in fact there, he's even admitted to not reading the by laws so no one really knows.

While I don't agree with the arguing it has started with someone coming in and claiming he is stating fact when he and us know its a possible scenerio. I think most of us Sioux fans agree more with your thoughts about the Summit and Great West football being run out of the same office but this caught everyone off guard and its kind of fun to discuss.

  6. I've been following this thread and, in particular, star's speculation about Summit League Bylaws. It's interesting how star starts his analysis with "if the bylaws require...," follows the speculation with several conclusions that seem to take the speculation as fact, and then take some shots at NDSU.

GeauxSioux noted that the comments about the bylaws are speculation at this point. I think he's right. Has anyone thought to ask for a copy of the bylaws or other League regulations that address these issues? I'm going to do that because I'm convinced from sources I've talked to, that there's no way NDSU and SDSU can be forced to leave the MVFC -- the Bison and Jacks may elect to do so (I doubt that will happen) but they can't be forced. But, my information may be based on guesswork, too. So, let's see if there are some bylaws, regulations or agreements among the League members that are on point and then the speculation can end.

If I can obtain the information, I'll post it.

I am certain SDSU is happy to be in the MVFC as is NDSU. I don't see either school joining a Summit football league -- unless, of course, they're bound by some bylaw, regulation or agreement.

Everyone on this board knows that nothing for sure is known about the bylaws but its something to discuss regarding this topic. Well, everyone but you, the message board police.

  7. I'm talking about all the excuses you keep parroting. Those are the kind of things that won't matter in the end.

The things that matter (like average attendance, program competitiveness, tradition) are the things that Montana has.

It won't do the WAC any good to invite Montana only to have them (Montana) start dropping programs in a few years because they can't afford them. Or it wouldn't do Montana any good to accept an invitation only to be the conference doormat because they can't afford to fully fund these programs (scholorships, coaches salaries, travel costs, having to recruit more out of state).

Those are the things that matter in the end. Also, what type of market would the WAC like to expand into? You seem to think you have all the answers even though you said a few months ago none of these changes where going to happen and if they did it wouldn't trickle down to conferences such as the Big Sky, MVC and possibly Summit League. :glare:

  8. Looks like Bamba's UND football career is definitely over: http://www.areavoices.com/siouxfb/

Too bad about Bamba. It is good to see a coaching staff though that has no grey area as far a discipline and attitude. This lets the players know that the same rules apply to EVERYONE regarding attitude and discipline. Its important to have everyone pulling in the same direction.

Some area schools have different sets of rules for different players depending on how much they contribute and this leads to problems within the program.

  9. Why don't they just ask Chapman or other ndsu officials about what their intent was or if they knowingly committed actions they knew where wrong. Oh wait, those responsible have all either tucked their tails and resigned and won't answer questions or they where fired.

  10. The teams on Cal Poly's road schedule may or may not be as tough as UND's, but the fact that they are on the road for 5 straight weeks in 5 different states certainly makes Cal Poly road schedule tough. Cal Poly starts on the road in Texas against Texas State, then travels to Louisiana to take on McNeese State, then return to California to play Fresno State, then on the road to Virginia to play Old Dominion and finish up on the road to Utah to take on SUU. They then have two home games before hitting the road to South Dakota to take on USD.

    Ouch!!!! :silly::D

  11. What proof do you have that Chapman intentionally tried to break the rules versus just making a mistake due to the lack of oversight?

Bruce Frantz and John Adams both resigned or where let go and both sight "pressure" being put on them as reasons for acting the way they did. By your reasoning they must have meant pressure being applied by the SBoHE. I'm sure Joe Chapman was placing no pressure on them and telling them what to do. :silly:

  12. Don't know how many of you read the new football blog but it had a nice read on spring recruiting. Said the coaches have extended approximately 10 scholorships so far. Its a good site that was really needed for UND football fans.

  13. The cause was lack of oversight, plain and simple.

When people don't have oversight, they make decisions that they feel are acceptable when they may in fact not be acceptable to the governing body. It's the SBoHE's fault for not keeping a watch on the project.

Typical bison attitude, its always someone else's fault.

  14. I do chuckle at some of the comments here that seem to confuse inertia with loyalty, and automatically consider "change = bad" and "status quo = good". But that's for another long post(and I've got to get back to work).

Change isn't a bad thing Hammer. But after years of bison fans making light of Ralph and his donation and having a loud voice on where he stands on some issues, namely the nickname, with the athletic dept. Now the shoe is on the other foot only some bison fans can't admit that.

Gene saw the opportunity to finally get something done with the BSA with the condition that Innovis be kicked aside. He ended a 50 year relationship for a huge check that is plain as day. But to bison fans making a decision based on what is in the best interest of a donor is suddenly a wise move and Gene is a wise man. Our previous president and athletic directors where foolish and gutless to bison fans for doing that exact same thing. So which is it?

  15. The Sanford deal is further along than most people think. NDSU/Sanford are doing a good job at keeping tight lipped on this deal until everything has been covered and discussed. What Sanford has proposed for NDSU and their athletic training facility has left Innovis out in the cold. Innovis would like to still be working with NDSU but can't compete with what is being proposed. Times have changed and NDSU's needs are different than what they were a decade ago as well as UND's. I believe that once all of the plans are released many will understand the reasoning behind the new direction they are going to take. 50 years is a long time and it is a shame it had to end the way it did. Taylor was on the Innovis board and I would be willing to bet that they were approached when NDSU was looking for a corporate donor for the new arena right away. I doubt Innovis was left in the dark as to what was happening. Innovis saw the writing on the wall and chose to end their relationship with NDSU before the news of the Sanford deal is released.

I don't doubt it was Johnson and personally its a good deal for ndsu. I just think its comical that even after its done Danno and other fans still have to compare themselves and their deals they made with UND to see how they stack up.
