I guess I'm out of the loop, I missed the fact that Bohmbach was already going to UW. I'll admit that I didn't read very much of the article...

I'm reading the printed version of the Wisconsin State Journal and there is a short article on the Under-18 World Cup and the Badger prospects that are going to be in it. They mention Brett Bruneteau... "At least one other pmember of Team USA will be monitored closely by UW coaches. Bree Bruneteau, a 17-year-old center with Omaha of the U.S. Junior Hockey Leahge, has expressed an interet in the Badgers, for 2007-2008. According to his father, Rick, he is considering seven or eight schools. He is also attracted to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association..." It also mentions that UW lost out on Ben Winnett who said Wed that he will play for Michigan in 2007 I can't find today's article online, perhaps it will be there tomorrow, but he is an interesting one. Talks about some recruits that UW is looking at, and some that they have missed... perhaps we have interest in a few of these? I haven't heard many of the names here... anyone have any info on them? Here is the email that I finally recieved: July 27, 2006 Dear Ms. Lobdell, Thank you for contacting me about the use of Native American mascots at schools. It is good to hear from you, and I apologize for the delay in my response. As you know, the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) recently decided that universities could only participate in NCAA championships and host championship events if they do so without Native American references on their uniforms and associated athletic program activities. However, the NCAA makes exceptions for universities who demonstrate that their nicknames are not a direct Native American reference, or who have received permission for the use of the name and mascot from the tribe with which it is associated. The Protection of University Governance Act of 2006, H.R. 5289, prohibits any non-governmental entity that regulates intercollegiate sports, such as the NCAA, from penalizing or denying any benefit to an institution of higher education based on their name, symbol or mascot. If passed, H.R. 5289 would override the NCAA's decision. This legislation was referred to the House Education and Workforce Subcommittee on 21st Century Competitiveness, of which I am not a member. Rest assured, if this legislation does come to a vote, I will keep your thoughts in mind. Again, thank you for sharing your views. Your opinion matters to me. If I can be of service to you in any other way, please do not hesitate to let me know. As a result of the anthrax incidents, all mail sent to Congress is first irradiated. This process causes significant delays. To ensure the fastest response, I encourage all constituents who have access to the internet to contact me through my website at http://tammybaldwin.house.gov. I haven't heard anything, but I just wanted to point out that it's Erik Fabian... not Eric

I'm even more excited for this upcoming season than I was before, if that is even possible. IS IT OCTOBER YET?!?

I think this may be my favorite article yet. As much as I'd love to see Toews in the NHL, I think I'd love to seem him there in another year. Although by no means is this anywhere near offical... I like the sounds of it.

http://www.gfheraldsiouxhockey.blogspot.com/ Here is some info on Porter's time at camp. Lots of compliments from all around

I read about this article on USCHO lastnight. They definatly do not paint a good picture of Kessel. See post #334 Here's basically a copy of the article... Another thing, about people saying that we aren't going to be very good this season or whatever, what we they thinking at the beginning of last season? I wasn't on here then, but I'd have to guess that with two seniors and 13 incoming freshman not all the thoughts were Frozen Four... what's on paper and what really happens are two totally different things. I say send Toews back for another year!
-
Didn't they also say that UND and Maine would be there as well? I believe Ben Bishop (Maine goalie) is a Blues prospect as well...
-
I also looked at the depth chart for Ottawa, and it seems that they only have two goalies... and then four goalies at the prospect camp. Seems like someone's gotta move up

However, if you believe Brian Elliott's dad, he'll be back. Brian Elliott Retrun Appears Likely Also some more information on the Badger recruits... I personally find the part about Suter amusing. "Though sources say it's technically possible, it appears highly unlikely that defenseman Garrett Suter will qualify academically to enroll at UW this fall." Bad news for him, although then it mentions how they recruited him as a hope to get Kessel to sign with them...

Here is some insight as to how Porter and Toews are doing in the camp. http://supportive-hawkfans.blogspot.com/ I found the link through the Chicago Blackhawks message board. Both Porter and Toews scored in the scrimmage. "3-2 White today, Goals from Porter (off a faceoff win from Lagerstrom), Toews (beauty 1 on 1 w/Crawford and Toews Schooled him), and Antilla.Brouwer scored on a penalty shot (nice move) and Auger (i believe) Poked home a rebound off of a nice effort by Dowell"

Don't forget that Porter is drafted by the Blackhawks as well...

Just thought I would share a neat experience with everyone. I was just outside walking my dog; and I live in Madison, WI; I have my Sioux Crew shirt on and a Sioux hat on... one of the people that passed me noticed and was asking me questions about going to school at UND. When we parted ways he said "I hope you get to keep your logo." I thought that was really neat. Rivals in the WCHA, allies against the NCAA...

Last week they had girls camps and guys defensive camps (I believe)... based on the number of campers that we checked into the halls, there were a lot of groups and different ages. So basically someone was on the ice all day. You could also find groups playings games outside or walking around campus on their way to eat or the pool...

I checked in some the campers last week when I was still in GF so I stopped by the Ralph to watch them play. You can just walk right in and watch. They play both on the Olympic and Main sheets of ice. Basically there all day until like nine at night (not sure). It was neat to see the Sioux player interactions with the kids, and some of the kids are absolutly hilarious to watch! If you have some free time, I'd recommend it... it will make you smile.

Thanks! Those are really awesome to see. Not to try and change the topic of the thread at all, but in the "Focus on Toews" clip there was one quote that made me laugh. "Do you think that if Chicago didn't have Jack Skille they would have taken Kessel?" There is some obviously some bad blood there. Either way, Congrats to Jonathan! Hope to see you in a Sioux jersey for one more year

I don't know a whole lot about the hockey drafting process... seeing as Jones went undrafted, what does that do to his future? Does it mean that he's more likely to stay all four years? (or was it never predicted that he would leave early)

Here is a more detailed report of the GPA breakdown. Student Athletes It goes sport by sport and season by season. It also lists the 29 students that had 4.0 for the entire year
-
I laminated seating charts for the athletic office today for the Alerus, Betty, and Ralph... none of the student seating has changed at all.
-
They talked about doing that this offseason, however I think that there were a lot of objects from the season ticket holders that sit there and do not want to move. Personally, I love being at center ice.

I'll admit that I don't know a lot about giving our surveys, but 132 students (not to mention 37 percent being American Indian) doesn't exactly seem like a sample population of the student body. For this survey to be accurate at all, I would think that they would need to include a few hundred more students...
